I'm only proposing something that is functionally the same as a robohash but where differences become far more apparent to the casual observer due to how the picture is framed in a person's mind.  It becomes a surreal picture of sorts with semantic context.

You may very well be right about the picture comparison if that is a domain of your interest.   I have no clue about the algorithm you just mentioned.  You are right that some "name similarity" threshold could be hit before comparing pictures so that makes it workable.  Personally, I'd like to be able to select my own picture.

The human face is the most easily analyzed object to the human mind

Meta / Decentralized or Distributed?
« on: September 18, 2014, 09:20:09 pm »
Can we retitle the DAC header of this forum to say "Distributed Autonomous Companies"?  I know that's the terminology I3 has been going with more recently

Maybe a discussion here on what others think of the terms?

To me, "Decentralized" is too absolute of a term, while distributed encapsulates the element of decentralized as well as an aspect of ownership that suits the business metaphor

Could it be a stand-alone third party site like a coupon or incentive program? It wouldn't need to be profitable, just break even. Or would it need to plug into BitShares X for the account info? If it were the former, someone like you might create something, and I'd gladly help you. If it needs to plug in directly to the code, that's where I think you'll hit a roadblock. There are a limited # of programmers working on BTSX and they'd probably much prefer to work on other aspects of it.

This is not an idea for the BitShares exchange. It's a business model for other DACs built on separate blockchains.

Can you say for certain that it would not work in BTSX?  Even for a particular bit asset?

Could we refer people using Facebook? Rewards would only be distributed if the referred person has over 200 friends and a "seasoned" account

Other ides for proving unique sign ups?

I probably am going about this completely the wrong way, please correct me if I am completely off the mark:

I got a new computer and wanted to move all my btsx info: account name, funds, transaction history -- is this feasible?

If not, how do I import the .json file to at least get the funds?

BM, can you comment on the idea that an app would search your digital wallet for the best currency by purchasing power?

How would BTS fit in and/or leverage this technology?

MethodX - Please bullet this.

The first ever information market, BitShares X will create an entirely new financial platform that will in turn create jobs and opportunities that the world has never before seen.

Also, we won't be trading "crypto" we trade information assets or info assets

General Discussion / Re: why is bitUSD trading at a discount?
« on: August 29, 2014, 11:22:24 am »
I dont think the bitUSD is trading at a discount because of lack of confidence. My guess is that it reflects the volatility in btsx. The market is saying "I think btsx could go up by 33% before i could get my BTSX out of bitusd and back into pure BTSX"

Its because, one, the market is bullish on BTSX and ,two, traders/investors don't know how to or don't believe its possible to get BTSX in and out of bitUSD quickly enough to react to the BTSX market volatility.

I dont understand if the problem is down to the BitUSD market not being fluid enough or people not understanding how to use the platform. Either way bitusd will get closer and closer to parity as the market becomes more fluid and traders/investors become more educated.

Until there is widespread retail use or a large enough market to see bitUSD as a volatility shelter, we may not truly know..

Technical Support / Re: Claiming BTSX "success" but where are they?
« on: August 27, 2014, 04:30:24 am »
Protoshares .dat was success but the multibit import is unsuccessful.
Ah .. yhea .. I heard about some issues with multibit ..
worst case would be for you to export/import all private keys by hand (in WIF format .. starting with "5....").

sorry about that .. I am sure the devs have that on their todo list ...

You're seeing your balance now?

I am having the same issue.  Can you elaborate, what is WIF format, how can I find the private key, and/or whatever else I need to establish WIF format?  I already have exported the file.key
