BitShares PTS / Re: [GUIDE] Mining on Amazon EC2 using Spot instances
« on: November 19, 2013, 02:18:08 am »
Guys becareful the new mine by yvg-1900 seems fishy, I'm running it on 5 of my servers and non are being registered at ypool. Its running pretty fast and finding shares I doubled checked my worker name and password and everything else is working.

I am looking at ypool and non of the servers are connected, my worker is not even active wtf...

Reverting back to the old miner I don't know who got those shares but I am sure I didn't.

He can keep that 10% gain in col/min I don't need it.

Xhor could you please post something for ypool?

After having lost 3/4 of my PTS/BTC in transfers from/to btc38 (after having made a *lot* in arbitrage), I'm taking a small break  8)
Seems like someone just did that, there: http://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=736.0
Just take his commands, put then in the User Data part, and it should work right away. I don't believe the initial
Code: [Select]
sudo -sis necessary though.

Note: not tested.

Thanks I managed to figure it out after hours of searching and asking. I went with the c3.8xlarge I think its called that anyways its a 32 core server. I managed to get get for 0.7$/hour which was pretty profitable before difficulty went up today.

Awesome guide, I figured out how to run ypool on linux but forgot to save the commands on a notepad. Glad you posted them.

I think you should also post for the new miner listed on ypool also. Heard it was faster giving 10% extra col/min.

I found 2 blocks on my first ~3-4 days of mining Protoshares, but nothing in the last week or so, but ah well, I can't complain, especially with how the value is doing already :)

I wish I caught this on its first few days but caught alittle earlier than alot others and made a small but nice amount of PTS. My plan is to hold onto them as a long term investment. Will continue mining when PTS value hit 20$ hoping really soon.

@bytemaster

People using cloud mining might not stop mining as alot of people aren't selling their PTS right now instead the money they are spending on cloud mining is sort of a long term investment hoping PTS follows in BTC footsteps.

I believe it will in just 2 weeks PTS value is double LTC and its still possible to mine on your computer with difficulty being relatively low compared to the difficulty of BTC and LTC.

I am getting a crash when adding the :port
If I run it without the port it just hangs looking for the old port, but doesnt crash.

 jhProtominer (v0.1c)
ubuntu@ip-x:~/jhProtominer/src/jhProtominer$ ./jhProtominer -o ypool.net:8081 -u name.1 -p x -t 4 -m512
Launching miner...
Using 256 megabytes of memory per thread
Using 4 threads
Connected to server using x.pushthrough(xpt) protocol
xpt: Logged in with name.1
Illegal instruction (core dumped)

Do I need to redownload and recompile or something?

Did the miner ever run on the same machine? Native or virtualised machine?.
Compile with "-march=corei7" if it does not work with "-march=native" . Solved exactly this error on some cloud machines for me.

Changing to corei7 worked, thanks!

Getting the same error too, deleted the server and creating another one to test it out again.

Are people getting more on 64bit machines with the same processor or more than 32bit machines?

64 bit machines are much faster.

We have payment already!Great!

Got my PTS also :D

@Brampower

I don't think you can but you should be able to see from one of the instances on one of your machines the total shares made from all machines and total earned.

Actually that can be seen on any of the machines running with the same wallet you added.

You'll find a Mac version of the miner here:

http://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=636.0

Edit the batch file replacing the PTS wallet address with your wallet address in which you would like to receive your PTS. Run the batch file to start mining. Payouts are done every 24 hours to your wallet.

Does this miner also work on 32bit or is it x64 only?

It should work, you could do a quick test and find out but mining 32 bit is not as fast as 64 bit.

That would be a nice trial, if prices are right could be worth the investment.
