General Discussion / Re: Is BTS X going to win the race and why?

Yes , let’s hope the NEM success, up to now, is due to’ serious developers’ more than ‘ *fair* distribution’…cause my main concerns are that their distribution scheme is easily fork-able and even someone can improve on…

That’s another way to put my OP,  BTW.

Gamey, the snapshot date is not an issue I am trying to address here; my question will still be the same no matter which exact date the BTS X uses for the snapshot from the AGS.

So you are more interested in the percentages?  Are you suggesting they gave away a large percentage in some manner?  There are infinite distributions they could have chose, but I think the one they went with was meant to motivate people to donate while increasing the price of PTS.  You'd have to propose a specific distribution for me to make any comment as their choice seems reasonable to me.  I'd also guess the Bitshares guys would stick with their choice of distribution.  I am curious though what you think might have been better.

Let say I donated 300 PTS in February (those cost me +/- $2,500) .For that I get 750 AGS (wishful thinking I know, just bending the numbers against my point). For 750 AGS,  I get roughly 2,500 BTS X (if 4 Mil total BTS X, or about  1/1600 of the total DAC).
Let’s say that my ‘unconfirmed resources are correct’ (that is totally random, I am making this stuff up) and
1.There are really only about 2000 active users on BTT. So, about 1600 will not mind participating in a free deal.
2.The best way to distribute some DAC is to give equal share to those active users of BTT, other than honoring PTS/AGS holders with 10%+ each (honoring the social consensus).

My points revolve around the following: the $2500 spent in Feb seem like money thrown away for any well-established BTT user. (in other words the alternatives/relative costs are to spend $2500 or to post ‘I am interested’)

^^ merockstar  You did not have to post and then delete your post in the thread in question. :) That particular idea seem unlikely to go anywhere, but rises interesting general questions.

Maybe I can put the question also like this – Do believe that the distribution from Feb 28 2014 – 50% PTS; 50% AGS (donors to that point) is the best possible? Reasons for such opinion?

I am not particularly worried about this poster/project, more of a general question.

It is best possible because if they changed _that_ then people would completely lose all faith in the integrity of I3/Bitshares.  I've seen some discussion about how they have changed things in the past, but it all seemed reasonable.  Changing the snapshot date would show extreme bad faith to those who paid the premium for PTS leading up to Feb 28th.  It would do immeasurable harm to the brand.

Gamey, the snapshot date is not an issue I am trying to address here; my question will still be the same no matter which exact date the BTS X uses for the snapshot from the AGS.

What is the plan for dealing with this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=499211.0

I am not saying the poster will be the one doing this successfully but:
-It is doable (easily with an open source code)
-It does follow the ’social consensus’ -10% or more for PTS and 10% or more for AGS.

And yet, if project like that takes off better than BTS X,let say they find the magic distribution and have great marketing, all AGS donors more or less have thrown their money away.

but... the house of representin' (idiocracy reference) is weighted by the population of each state. maybe I could explain that it is democratic in a house way, but not in a senate way.

If you take advice from newbies:

This will be going too much country specific. Keep in mind that:

1. Every country is deferent; 2. US is deferent election-wise from most everybody.

Anyone wanting to give this thread a bump or 2 would be helpful.  Listen to it first obv !

Somebody keeping an eye on the BTT site and answering questions would be nice…  :)

I like his passion, think he's a big asset, probably made one of the most positive, productive contributions to BitShares around, but I've noticed that if you're idea isn't specifically  'sharedropping to BlackCoin at 50/50' then you're going to get a lot of long essays telling you why it's bad  :D )

I think the idea behind this
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=5078.msg66724#msg66724
was exactly that  (with some extremes  - distribution to not only those that post interest but to possibly everyone). I believe it might have been misunderstood as overtaking over Litecoin, even though the OP-er specifically states it can be any name…

Anyhow I myself  may have understood the idea wrongly, but the important part was the community thought such action is a terrible image problem for Bitshares.

2c.

I myself do not have any strong opinion one way or the other.

Let’s start answering from the most stupid (me) to the smartest.

No matter the technology, you have missed that train, i.e. too risky to invest or speculate at this almost vertical price increase…

Bitshares PTS is up at least 15% in the market since they announced this. If you don't like this upgrade, then why not sell now?

All newbies care for the investors here and wish they invest ... elsewere. Am I missing something?
Do you really believe they are invested on PTS ?

I wish, I have invested as little as you 'dani' and posted more, so I have more weight in your eyes!

It would have been up 50% if they have not announced the 15% dilution (with the same %15 grabbed by I3).
And sadly, we still hope the community response will make them change their plans…(or is it a lost cause Dan/Stan?)

Stan, do you understand the difference between a mathematically controlled logarithmic inflation and what you are proposing? If you know anything about the time-value relationship of money you would not try to equate an instantaneous frontloaded 15% centralized inflation scheme with what PTS currently has. It does amount to a theft of 15% from current shareholders. In other words, if I sold my coins tomorrow or next month we both know I would not incur the full 15% inflation. AGS contributors were promised a stake in FUTURE DACS, not the upgrade of PTS (which they knew about prior to investing in AGS). This hypothetical objection from AGS holders is a fiction, and is perfectly staged to grab 15% of our equity in the name of "fairness." I expected more from you guys.

Sorry to jump in to the discussion late, but I think this discussion of the 15% unmined PTS is absurd (mathematically, economically, and morally). The inflation of PTS to account for this 15% would normally occur logarithmically over a period of YEARS and has not yet taken place. If I were to sell my shares now, these non-existent PTS would have no inflationary impact on my coins. Furthermore, the amortization schedule of the 15% is fixed. You are now proposing to frontload all of that into a marketing fund and to allocate it to I3. Guess what happens when you do that? I incur ~5-10 years of monetary inflation from you overnight. This may be overshadowed by the price bump of a working DPOS release, but that is irrelevant.
'....
There should be a snapshot of PTS and we should transition to DPOS with a 1:1 mapping of PTS1 -> PTS2. What you guys are doing here does not inspire confidence.
