General Discussion / Re: PTS has shot UP
« on: November 30, 2013, 05:50:16 am »
Yes, I'm holding PTS for the longest time, along with the BTC that I have left over after buying PTS.

I've done fairly well at maintaining calm with the price rise of BTC and PTS.  I would not be surprised if it all reversed tomorrow, but I never invested what I cannot afford to lose, and thus I will enjoy this roller coaster ride.

I wonder if there is any connection between the rise of PTS and some negative attention for a potential BitShares competitor on the front page of /r/Bitcoin.  Probably not, but what would I know?

With the present $20+ million market-cap for ProtoShares, Invictus is highly incentivized to deliver on the promise of BitShares, and I believe that Invictus will deliver.

Built ok, error on start. Libboost differs on .rpm instead of .deb distros? :)

OpenSSL differs on .rpm distros, but the parts needed for Bitcoin and its derivatives should be enabled by default in Fedora 20.  I have no experience compiling Bitcoin on Fedora myself, however.

General Discussion / Re: PTS price has surpassed LTC price on BTC38
« on: November 28, 2013, 02:56:36 pm »
Not anymore! LTC prices have shot up like crazy in the last 2 days, most altcoins have actually been on the upswing with the btc rise

Yes, I spoke too soon since I have little understanding about how altcoin markets work.  It seems crazy to me that the market cap of ProtoShares is currently behind that of Litecoin, Namecoin, Peercoin, Primecoin, Feathercoin, Novacoin, Infinitecoin, Quarkcoin, and Megacoin.  I'm glad that ProtoShares does not have someone like Max Keiser pumping it, so I can buy more at lower prices.

General Discussion / Re: KryptoKit
« on: November 27, 2013, 05:23:37 pm »
http://invictus-innovations.com/mission/ @ approx 31:50 there is a segment worth setting up.  I honestly would love to see a little "DAC" of sorts open up as a venture for features like this to be "mined" into existence somehow by people who believe in it.  Would be VERY interesting PR move for Invictus Innovations...as well as the value of the currencies.

Do you mean to reference Let's Talk Bitcoin, Episode 62?  I cannot find any other information on KryptoKit, but I was excited about what I heard.

My point of view: shit happens, and although this shit probably should not have happened the way it did, well, it's too late now.
Bottom line, I am grateful for Silfax to have had the courage to stay, face all the anger, and deal with the situation as best as he could. I am very glad to at least get back 58% and will not whine for more. Imo this is probably the fairest solution that could be found under these circumstances, and I would not expect Silfax to pay for everyones losses out of his own pocket, if he even can. Most probably Silfax was stressed more by this than anyone else and had serious losses too. Surely everyone learned a lessons from this, and that may well be seen positively.

I agree.  58% was much more than I expected to receive, so I am grateful for what I can receive, given these circumstances.  I'm not angry at Silfax since he did not coerce me to use his exchange, and I never risked on the exchange what I could not afford to lose.  I have no use for pointing fingers or pitchforks.

I successfully withdrew my BTC as PTS at a calculated rate of 0.012000093 BTC per PTS, so Silfax's above formula for withdrawals is accurate.

BitShares PTS / Re: Wait what? 1% inflation?
« on: November 24, 2013, 12:29:35 am »
This is from bter.com, the new PTS exchange:
" POW Hash: Momentum (2^26 / 2^50) with SHA512 Generation,Block target: 5 minutes, total coins: Around 2 million, with 1% inflation after 2 years "
1% inflation? Please tell me that's wrong and I haven't been living under a rock this last month. Putting in off-topic, don't want to raise false alarms or anything :D

It's true, according to one of the ProtoShares developers:

Quote
Specifications

Block target: 5 minutes
Difficulty Retargeting: 4032 Blocks
Difficulty Retargeting target: 2 Weeks

No premine.
Block reward: 50 PTS, 5% reduction every 2016 blocks
Total coins: Around 2 million, with 1% inflation after 2 years

Does anyone have any marketing info for PTS/ keyhotee as my area is sales and marketing..

Have you checked out all the information from Invictus Innovations?  In particular, read/watch all the material by Daniel Larimer (aka bytemaster) and Stan Larimer on the Links page, plus the newsletters.  There is a lot of useful information to read on that site.  Sales and marketing is not my area of expertise, but I hope that helps.

Keyhotee / Re: Pre-order a Keyhotee FOUNDER ID, for only 10 PTS
« on: November 23, 2013, 05:54:21 pm »
Is there a GUI that I can see the PTS, which will be locked against the ID purchase?

No GUI.  We are processing these manually since it is a one-time promotion that can never be repeated - not worth distracting our development team.

As long as Invictus does not move the PTS to another address, one can use a block explorer such as BTSblock or Coinplorer to see the PTS amount in the receiving address.

For example, for the forum donation address:

http://btsblock.com/address/PforumPLfVQXTi4QpQqKwoChXHkoHcxGuA
or
http://coinplorer.com/PTS/Addresses/PforumPLfVQXTi4QpQqKwoChXHkoHcxGuA

I tried using the cmake method from the pastebin and got a lot of undefined references, then make failed.  I don't know if this might be due to differences between Arch and Ubuntu or user error on my part.

Code: [Select]
CMakeFiles/protosharesd.dir/build.make:91: recipe for target 'protosharesd' failed
make[2]: *** [protosharesd] Error 1
CMakeFiles/Makefile2:99: recipe for target 'CMakeFiles/protosharesd.dir/all' failed
make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/protosharesd.dir/all] Error 2
Makefile:75: recipe for target 'all' failed
make: *** [all] Error 2

I used the qmake method to compile protoshares-qt successfully after ensuring all dependencies are installed:

Code: [Select]
git clone git://github.com/InvictusInnovations/ProtoShares.git
cd ProtoShares/
qmake-qt4 -makefile protoshares-qt.pro
make

Try substituting qmake if qmake-qt4 is not found on your system.

Hi,

just built protoshares on my freshly installed ubuntu... and it's a horrible experience.

first of all, the lack of a installation manual is hilarious.

but to the main problem:

although the client shows 8 connections it just won't sync properly, most of the time. and if it does, it stops after a short period.

any help?

What were the commands that you used to build protoshares-qt?

Is your Ubuntu installation up-to-date?  I ask since "freshly installed" does not necessarily mean up-to-date.

Are the required dependencies installed?

I have a functional protoshares-qt which I compiled on my Arch Linux 64-bit system.  I recall having a similar problem with syncing in the past, but I do not experience that after the most recent git commits.  I can share how I compiled it if that would be useful for you.

General Discussion / Re: Bit-U PTS / BTC Exchange
« on: November 20, 2013, 10:48:37 pm »
Okay everyone, thanks for bearing with us.

We have resolved our internal issue, and the exchange will be moving back to Coingrounds in the very near future.

Thanks for your support of the exchange and of me, we've got a great community here!

more details: https://www.bit-u.com/news

Please note: when moving back to coingrounds, I will be joining with two other people in management of the site, so if you wish to withdraw your balance under the current scenario, please do so before 12pm (noon) EST tomorrow, the 21st.

Which time zone is EST?  Wikipedia shows multiple possibilities.

General Discussion / Is buypts.com a scam? (update - probably not a scam)
« on: November 18, 2013, 08:00:47 pm »
I'm not sure if this is the right board to post this.  Mods, feel free to move it if necessary.

I found on a ProtoShares reddit post a link to buypts.com.  The site looks eerily similar to buymastercoin.com, and it invites site visitors to buy ProtoShares for 0.25 BTC per PTS (!).  Obviously anyone who has researched ProtoShares would understand that the buypts.com price is very much higher than the current market price, but those who have not done their homework might not understand that.

I know better than to send any BTC there, but unfortunately some have sent BTC to the address for buypts.com.  I don't know for sure if it's a scam since no one has reported being scammed, but it feels potentially scammy to me.

UPDATE (11/19/2013):
Based on the conversation with the site owners in this thread, and given that no one has claimed to be scammed through this site, I conclude that buypts.com is probably not a scam.  I have no first-hand experience with buypts.com since I prefer less expensive ways to buy ProtoShares, but as long as the owners are upfront about the cost and do what they say they are going to do, they are welcome to charge whatever the market is willing to pay for ProtoShares.
