General Discussion / Ripple approaching $2 billion mkt cap
« on: December 16, 2014, 05:04:26 am »
Anyone who is even a casual observer of Coinmarketcap has seen that Ripple has been on a very strong uptrend over the past month or so, even as Bitcoin and nearly all other cryptos have languished.

If you consider all of the XRP ripple currency units (most are not necessarily freely traded, but they are outstanding), the market cap is nearing $2 billion. That's almost fifty times (50x) the market capitalization of BitShares.  :o

Maybe Ripple is on a trajectory to displace Bitcoin as #1. Maybe BTSers should be alarmed and just a little worried. Thoughts?

Technical Support / Problem with covering a short position [resolved]

I tried paying off some BitUSD owed on a short position, and the call price went down significantly. What's going on? Pleas help!

General Discussion / Issue with covering shorts in 0.4.22
« on: October 26, 2014, 05:33:12 pm »
The gui in windows Ver 0.4.22 64-bit seems to have a problem with respect to covering operations. (I haven't tried the other versions of 0.4.22.) So, I tried partially paying off some BitUSD for a grandfathered short position. Normally, paying off some of the owed BitUSD should raise the margin call price because the short position becomes better collateralized.

However, instead of raising the call price, my transaction actually lowered the call price! Is this a known issue?

After installing ver 0.4.22 64 bit, I found that the GUI no longer shows the amount of BTSX associated with some of my short positions. Only the cover price, amount owed in BitUSD, and cover date are shown.

Technical Support / Problem buying BitUSD: "insufficient funds"
« on: September 13, 2014, 08:58:43 pm »
In 0.4.14 windows GUI version, I tried buying a small amount of BitUSD, and the BTSX balance is certainly more than enough for the purchase. However, the order doesn't go through.

I get the following message: "Order failed: insufficient funds (200101)". What could be causing this?

Technical Support / Margin orders displayed incorrectly 0.4.12
« on: September 06, 2014, 05:10:45 pm »
I installed 0.4.12 and it seems that some of my margin orders are displayed incorrectly.

For example, one of the orders has a much smaller BitUSD cost and collateral amount than it should (the numbers look fine when I start the wallet, but after a short while they refresh and just duplicate erroneously those of a different margin order that I have).

Also, a short transaction of mine that filled earlier is missing entirely from the list of margin orders (it was definitely not removed by a margin call or paid off).

Are these known issues? Has anyone else had these problems?

General Discussion / BitBTC order matching not working?
« on: September 01, 2014, 06:35:04 pm »
So I tried placing an order to short BitBTC. My order shows up on the book, but it hasn't filled for quite some time.

Meanwhile, I see other short and bid orders filled at higher prices and lower quantities than my order.

What explains this? Is the BitBTC order matching broken somehow?

General Discussion / What's next?
« on: August 26, 2014, 02:05:54 pm »
It has been an Interesting launch. It seems the most important thing right now is to increase liquidity.

I hope the team is hard at work on improving the client. The trading functionality and user experience could be better. Debugging and improving the GUI quickly is important.

Maybe start a bug bounty thread or email? Why not learn from Ripple's client, or centralized exchanges' user interfaces?

Also, make registration easier so more people can actually use the trading functions.

General Discussion / BitAssets trading guide?
« on: August 23, 2014, 06:06:35 am »
Is anyone working on putting together a simple guide to trading BitAssets on BItshares? With the launch of BitUSD in just a couple days, a friendly "BitUSD trading for dummies" primer that walks new users through some examples would be extremely useful. The simpler it is, the better.

A lot of new users will have questions like, at what point is a margin call triggered? How is the order matching procedure in BitsharesX different from the bid-ask system in traditional markets? There should be plenty of warnings and explanation about the differences, either in a primer or announced in the client when placing trades. This will help prevent newbies from getting badly burned.

General Discussion / # of shares in Bitshares X
« on: June 22, 2014, 03:23:49 am »
Has the # of shares in Bitshare X been decided on yet?

IMO, 4 million is too small. If X ever has any hope of being much bigger than Litecoin's market cap, with only 4 mill shares the share price would have to be like $100+, which would scare away the avg joe. Investors are people, not computers  :-\

Why not make life easier and start with 40 million shares? Heck why not 100 million shares?   ;)
