General Discussion / Launch of Robinhood
« on: December 12, 2014, 06:21:29 pm »
http://www.institutionalinvestor.com/inside-edge/3409677/the-app-that-wants-to-bring-financial-markets-to-millennials.html

With the launch of Robinhood - I think the questions should be asked: "What's the cypto equivalent?  And what can BitShares do to ensure its place?"

As millenials continue to work their way up in the work force,  become more sophisticated investors, I think it will be important in showing them there are alternatives to the traditional stock market as they begin to look for investment opportunities.

P.S. Their website is admirable and at level of fit & finish that I believe BitShares should strive to attain...

General Discussion / Re: Weekly or Biweekly Updates. Is it too much to ask?
« on: December 12, 2014, 03:44:52 pm »
You should expect an update from Adam on monday.

And from Brian P? Like never?

Probably never! But bitmarket and murderistic from his marketeer crew hang out here occasionally

The arrogance is costing me money (for Pepto Bismol)

Updates would be great, project plan would be even better. I just want to see a project plan outlining 1 month, 3 months, 6 months with milestones, projected costs and resource allocation. I understand the need for privacy with business development, the same shouldn't hold true for marketing efforts. At a 40 million dollar valuation, we should have a monster plan outlined and coordinated between different resources.

I might be in the minority but that's how I feel about it.  If you want to know everything happening from the community marketing team, it's as simple as following a weekly link.

Transparency should be king within BitShares.

hpenvy - I don't think you're in the minority.

I too - would really like to at the very least see some projections and a solid executable plan.  Not even a 1+ month plan, but a RIGHT NOW plan.  I may be speaking for myself, but I'd sure appreciate at least a weekly update that outlines specifically what the incumbent marketing team has done, along with what they will be doing, and what they plan to accomplish for the next week.

If these current efforts need to stay behind closed doors, then perhaps we call it what it is: Business Development (because there IS a difference from marketing).  We're simply scaling to the point where Brian's team cannot do both, it's a great problem to have - now let's address it.  I'd be in favor of voting in an "additional" marketing team to take the helm, with specific focus on marketing alone, with an allocated budget and more transparency.

Draft of the message that would be tweeted:

Here's your chance to be one of the first people in history to be employed directly by the #blockchain AND get #paidbyprotocol.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone on Nullstreet that devotes time to helping push the community driven marketing.

Kudos to Method-X for getting the Nullstreet initiative started. So many wonderful projects that are currently being executed.

+5%  He's doing an impressive job.  His head's in the right place and he's leading effectively.

You can't crowdhire yourself.....the crowd has to hire you

I do like the 'Crowdhiring, yeah its a thing' slogan, and it fits with the rest of the logo.  Crowdhire yourself is an oxymoron, and IMO, sounds dumb saying it.

I agree.  +5%

We'll need a 1-2 sentence description of BitShares, here's my draft, and I'd love to know what you all think:

BitShares is a technology & toolkit striving to enable freedom through solutions for: finance, music, voting, insurance, & much MUCH more.

General Discussion / Re: Lamassu ATM
« on: December 10, 2014, 07:03:48 pm »
There's a local business here (Grand Rapids) that set up a bitcoin ATM, I've reached out to them to see if they may be interested in setting up a BitShares ATM.  I'll let you guys know when I hear back.

It should also be important to note, the target audience of this specific campaign is the cryptosphere, i.e. people already involved with Bitcoin & other cryptocurrencies.

We want to utilize this campaign to begin chipping away at bringing them into the BitShares ecosystem by demonstrating BitShares is complimentary to their success.  They just need a taste, the rest will follow.

I think what may work well for this is a use-case.  An example of how its been done before.  Off the top of my head - we have some super talented people that were once volunteering time and are now 100% pay delegates (Toast, Cass, & Method-X among others) because of the future value they've already brought into the system and the future value that WE as a community believe in, and are investing in.

Would anyone be willing to help write that narrative/story?  Maybe one of the guys above can describe their experience and the process?

I like the 2 Ben mentioned:
#tryhonestbanking
#honestbanking

What about #bankingrevolution ?

Some others
#beyourownbank
#bankingfreedom

I think it's important to note that this isn't just a solution for banking.  BitShares is a toolkit to provide solutions for finance, music, insurance, voting, and more

General Discussion / Re: Thunderclap Campaign #2 - Headline Poll

Step 1 is developing a photo for the campaign with built in potential virality (i.e. a catchy #hashtag)  Cass and I have been working together to develop this image and are looking for feedback.

Feast your eyes on this and let me know what you think.

General Discussion / Thunderclap Campaign #2 - Development & Brainstorming
« on: December 10, 2014, 05:09:16 pm »
We're back at it again!  This post will be utilized to brainstorm and capture the development of our second Thunderclap Campaign.  We'll be applying everything we learned from The First Thunderclap Campaign

For those of you who don't know what a Thunderclap is:
Thunderclap is an application used to send out a unified message through multiple social media platforms at the exact same time - the "Thunderclap".  This is a social media marketing strategy that focuses on "social reach" - i.e. Friends on Facebook or Followers on Twitter.

The goal is to solicit as many people as possible to support the campaign.  By supporting, the users allow the Thunderclap app to 'post on their behalf'.  Once the campaign is supported by at least 100%, the message will be deployed through all supporters to all of their friends and followers at the same time.

For those of you who don't know me:
My name is Brian Falther and I've been part of the BitShares community since very close to the beginning - I even mined PTS in bytemaster's Coyote Pool!  I'm passionate about BitShares and I'm here to put some energy towards the grassroots marketing efforts.  I'm also a member of Nullstreet - where the backend conversation for this campaign has been brewing for the past few weeks.

Any questions, please feel free to post here or shoot me a PM.  I'll continue to provide updates with where we're at in this process along with some requests for help, so stay tuned and follow along!
