General Discussion / Re: Blocks not syncing Bitshares
« on: November 14, 2014, 06:48:44 am »
Yes I tried that, it only gets up to ~ last 20 hours of blocks and does not update to recent even after letting it sync for over 1 full day at that point. I have installed multiple versions and nothing seems to be working, I've also cleared the chain/reset db. Just cannot get access to these Bitshares..

Hey I'm booting up my Bitshares client and it's stuck at 16 days, I reset the database, re-installed the client and nothing seems to be working. I have 9 network connections, any ideas?

The demand to short the dollar requires a counterparty.  There are more counter parties at 5% than 0%

Maybe on the beginning... but why should the demand to short bitUSD5 be higher in future?
let's say the prizes stabilize close to 1 bitUSD=$1 and 1 bitusd5=$1.05 (as it should)
why would the demand of shorting be higher for one of them? I don't get it.  :-\
+5% Currently in the same boat, if Dan could expand on his thought process behind this it would hopefully make things clearer

I don't think it is a good idea.
BitUsd5 BitUsd6 BitUsd7 BitUsd8 BitUsd9......
Like
Goldcoin10%gold  Goldcoin20%gold  Goldcoin30%gold Goldcoin40%gold......
May be it will cause competition, and out-of-balance.
But have a try is ok.

Another  question:
The Bitusd's  largest number of supply100,000,000,000 USD , is fixed or  Adjustable?

I agree - having multiple different BitUSDs looks messy, and makes the whole thing look like an experiment. Another way to introduce interest would be to have a single BitUSD, but gradually raise its interest from 0% -> 1% -> 5% etc, whilst checking that the peg still holds.

-5%  I think that is a bad idea considering it could screw up the entire peg for actual BitUSD if it does not work out well and hurt the whole system's integrity indefinitely versus implementing a separate asset which will either succeed as theorized or just end up being traded on a very different peg than the actual/idealistic value of BitUSD.

BTSX description from detractor, NXT/Bitcoin supporters etc.

Unlike other digital currencies or DAC's that have either no inflation like NXT or defined limited inflation like Bitcoin. BTSX has the ability to print new money when required just like the Federal Reserve & the other central banks we all know and love! But unlike central banks which only create a little bit of inflation, BTSX can create a lot all at once! So in a 50% flash crash for example, where you've already lost 50% of the value of your BTSX, we could devalue you by up to a further 25%! Won't that be a fun few hours to remember! But don't worry about the smart money & professional traders because a minority can hedge themselves and the rest will just sell very early on in a crash leaving the regular guys like you holding the bag when there's a problem. It's just like a real economy! Welcome to BTSX - The future of money!

I could see this being posted against nearly every positive sentiment for Bitshares on other forums, very bad for PR reasons along with the ideology.

The key points are:
1. There should never be more than 2 billion XTS for any reason or Bitshares will be thought of as broken.
2. The loan should be an IOU which is just enough to cover the shorts or the volatility event and bring it all back into equilibrium.
3. Delegates pay a price for this in that none of them get paid as 100% of fees get burned while users also pay a price because fees are temporarily higher than usual.

This way the incentives for everyone is for this not to happen. Also include the ability to execute option 1 as a fallback mechanism.

I am very against the idea of having our shares be diluted (debasement = euphemism for dilution) based on possible market manipulation. These kinds of manipulations are not easy to "factor" for especially in these early stages when it is extremely vulnerable to attacks. I am strongly against a system where BTSX could realistically increase past the initial 2 billion distribution.

You guys should seriously consider moving in a different direction with your marketing. This is a golden opportunity to have that conversation. Why don't you involve the community you currently have and come up with a stronger marketing plan.

Was it this statement from the July 4th Newsletter?

As a result, we are entering a period of rapid press announcements (partnerships, snapshots, protoDACs, and commercial DACs) every few weeks for the remainder of this season. Starting immediately…

If so, then stand by, hints about pending events may be found everywhere...

Yes, this is what I meant, thanks for the response Dan + Stan. I recently sent my first transaction on the PTS network in months and it has been a few hours without confirmation, is it still taking a few days for confirmations? And is the current plan to move PTS over to another blockchain, thanks.

Stan said a long time ago that there would be an announcement after the last AGS day of donations. Is this still coming or was there already an announcement about this? I was told it would be big   :)

Is there any estimation for how long it will take to add in the exchange features? Are they already ready or are they still being developed as we speak?

Definitely would say remove it temporarily until it hits the markets, price swings are very imminent at this stage and it'd make us look worse if others claim it's a scam (along the lines of Ripple market cap when it was over 1 billion) because of the small amount on the market.
