« on: May 28, 2015, 04:16:19 pm »
@bitsapphire

Let's get CometChat integrated on the forum, so we can support new user's questions and make real time communications quicker & easier directly on bitsharestalk.org. CometChat is an non intrusive overlay that follows you around the forum and allows you to chat pain free.

@riverhead is nice enough to to offer to pay the 1 time cost of $50. If we come together and raise $129, we can get an unbranded, ad-free verison with support for Gtalk integration, multiple languages and translation.

I will kick in $29 for the cause. If we can come up with $50 more, then we just need to have the Bitsapphire guys install it and we'll be ready to take support questions in real time right here on BTStalk!

Muse/SoundDAC / Movement Fest Flyer Drop re-cap
« on: May 27, 2015, 05:31:01 pm »
Just wanted to offer some details regarding the guerrilla promotion of Peertracks at the Movement music festival last weekend.

  • I was able to sneak flyers in 2 out of 3 days. The last day they wouldn't let me "self-promote" but luckily I stashed some the day before inside of the festival. I scattered a bunch outside of the front gates in protest of their fascist stifling of information. 8)
  • I was able to sneak behind the Red Bull stage one of the days and put flyers on all the VIP tables / seating areas.
  • I put flyers at the Uber booth, the audio technology area, and handed a bunch out to people that I met during the fest. I talked to the Novation guys about it and they also seemed really interested.
  • Snoop got a flyer!! One of the guys I met in my building organizes music events and has some connections into the local hip hop scene. He has been helping me distribute the flyers and told me he hand delivered one to Snoop. He has been hyping it up to other Detroit made superstars in the hip hop scene, such as Fat Cat and Guilty Simpson.
  • @thread and one of the festival workers said they would put some in the artist lounge for me. Not sure if that happened or not.
  • I put some in music venues and cafes around the area. I have about 1/2 of the total amount of flyers printed left over.
  • I'm in the process of talking to some potential "street crew" members to help broaden the outreach of these flyers to other music festivals and local hangouts. To be paid in NOTEs, of course!
  • Overall, the people I spoke with about PeerTracks seemed very interested in the concept and wanted to know more. I would say the idea was well received.

Next I want to hit up the local music museums and see if they will take some of the flyers. There's a Mo-town museum and an underground techno museum called Submerge.

Detroit is a nexus for independent and innovative musicians of all styles, speeds, and persuasions. Because of this, I aim to funnel this diversity of local artists into the PeerTracks system via word of mouth and ads, to help increase the collection of artists on board when the project goes live. This week the city is alive with music due to the Movement Festival, which attracts over 100,000 people each memorial weekend to the city.

Brainstorming with @mikek3, who did the design work, and obtaining feedback from @cob, we came up with the following double sided 4x6 based on the branding and copy from the peertracks.com site. If you are so compelled, feel free to use the design for your own local initiatives!

I've got 5000 of these on rush order so I can hit the ground hard this weekend. DJ @thread is playing the show and has access to the artist lounge, which we fully intend to infiltrate with these cards.

Cost to Print:                 $150
Next day completion:    $100
Sales tax:                      $15
Total costs:                    $265

@cob subsidized my efforts by pitching in $100 bitUSD. Donations to help cover the cost of materials are appreciated, and I am willing to send out left over cards (after I scatter them all over Detroit venues and cafes) to community members that want a stack of them.

Random Discussion / Violated by the mighty Balrog
« on: May 19, 2015, 02:00:33 pm »
Great read on CIN (Corruptor-injector networks) attacks. How can we mitigate these types of compromise on our hot wallet machines? If a cryptocurrency does threaten the status quo, we can assume damn well that they will be using these types of attacks to erode the trust in the system (maybe by keylogging and stealing funds for example).

John from Bitcoins and Gravy is looking for someone with trading expertise to interview and asked me if I knew anyone. I figured this would be a good place to start.

FinCEN fines Ripple $700,000 for violating AML / KYC compliance and failing to register as a money services business when XRP is issued.

Because we are a community (not a company  8)), and the AGS were donated, does that allow BitShares to fly under the radar?

General Discussion / Information Liquidity TED talk
« on: April 25, 2015, 02:11:51 pm »
This is a very insightful talk discussing the emergent information economy and how we can scale it up, taking cues from how life itself manages ultra-complexity, and from looking at innovations that enabled the globalized economy to prosper.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFgltc6xi00&app=desktop

tl;dr using p2p networks and a universal container for information, we can solve the problems of resiliency and scalability into trillions of nodes (people, devices).

From skimming this paper, it seems to discuss a lot of different centralized investment schemes based on digital currency.

http://www.esma.europa.eu/system/files/2015-532_call_for_evidence_on_virtual_currency_investment.pdf

Maybe they would be interested in the use cases BitShares enables by putting orderbooks on the exchange, bitasset stablecoins,  & KYC / AML  compliance features.
