BitShares PTS / Re: BTER and snapshot
« on: August 25, 2014, 12:30:21 am »
I decided to move my PTS to bter for the snapshot a couple hours before 11:59:59 PM UTC but I don't think they gave me credit for it. Was I supposed to have PTS_S on my bter account for this snapshot by now?

I guess I shouldn't have assumed they would be recognizing the snapshot at the time it was announced but I hope they will make it right for me. The post on their site never specified a time either, I guess it just said before the 21st (https://bter.com/article/2278:'(.

It looks like their exchange is based off UTC+8 timezone based on my deposit timestamp: 2014-08-22 06:32:31

So that would have been deposited at 2014-08-21 10:32:31 UTC. I really hope they make it right so my PTS investment wasn't worthless.

indeed interesting.. same issue for me also  :-\

Hey cass, were you ever able to figure out if they honored your PTS for the snapshot? I got an ambiguous reply back from their support which didn't really answer my initial question of if they snapshotted based on their timezone or UTC. Here's the reply:

"

Dear Sir,
PTS_3 was snapshot on 23:30-24:00 UTC+8 Aug 21 , 8 hours before blockchain time in case of failing to receive PTS on bter account at the deadline.

"

So it sounds like PTS_3 was a "snapshot" taken 8 hours before the real snapshot for backup or something? I responded to try to get more clarification if they are honoring it based on UTC or UTC+8. It seems like it wouldn't make any sense if they are doing UTC+8 as that is a different instant in time from the actual snapshot.

BitShares PTS / Re: PTS withdrawal disabled at Bter

I also wanted to mention that the PTS that I bought on Bter on 8-21-2014 and 8-22-2014, was not included on the most recent VOTE and DNS snapshot because those were bought after the 11:59 PM 8-21-2014 deadline.  Even though I bought some PTS on Bter at 8:43 PM EST on 8-21-2014, I missed the Snapshot deadline because that particular trade was finalized at 8:43 PM Bter time (China time) on 8-22-2014 according to my Bter trade history.  I knew that I missed the snapshot when I bought at that time because I got home from work at a very late hour, however, I am not that worried about it because I had some PTS stored in my own computer wallet that I bought on Bter well before the 8-21-2014 Snapshot deadline so I will still get a small piece of the VOTE and DNS Dacs.

During the BTSX run up in price, I had a large profit when I sold some of my BTSX on Bter and since PTS went down after the snapshot, it was a perfect time for me to sell some BTSX for a profit to buy some PTS after it went down about 27% from where it was before the 8-2--2014 snapshot (bought PTS at prices of 593,000 sat/PTS and 631,000 sat/PTS).  That worked out well for me and I am satisfied with those trades.  Being unable to withdraw the PTS from Bter at that time spooked me out and that is why I started this thread.

Thank you for the replies to my thread.  I feel much better now.  I will keep this in consideration when the next snapshot comes out.  :)

I'm in the same boat Cryptofreakoutlaw31. I don't have any PTS_S3 or anything on bter yet (I don't think anyone does?). I made the assumption that bter was going off the UTC timestamp for snapshotting. I still believe this to be true as per xeroc's comment that they didn't know whether or not they received the snapshot from bter until later. It wouldn't make much sense for them to base the snapshot off an actual different point in time than the true snapshot.

Thanks a lot for the information. I am confident Bter will provide me the stake for my PTS holdings now.

If I recall correctly they did the very same thing last time too .. they even disabled trading directly after the snapshot ...
I think its a security measure ..

Thanks for the information xeroc. Do you remember if they had any indication as to whether your PTS was honored for the last snapshot? I notice there is currently a PTS_S  commodity under "Accounts" but I am uncertain whether I my PTS amount was supposed to be "snapshotted" to that field. Currently it reads 0.

I'm curious because I had my PTS on bter about 1.5 hours before the snapshot, but I have no way of knowing whether or not they counted my PTS or took their "snapshot" according to China's timezone. I haven't heard back from their support yet about it either.

I was kind of afraid to sell it off as was my initial strategy because of this so it looks like I'll be holding my PTS for the long haul! That won't be such a terrible loss so long as they do indeed give us credit for the snapshot. I put in a ticket for clarification about 25 minutes ago so I'll keep you posted on their response.

Technical Support / Re: Wallet won't sync
« on: August 21, 2014, 03:32:28 am »
I had this problem earlier yesterday with both PTS and BTSX clients on OS X, I believe I just ended up rebuilding the chain by deleting the "chain" directory in /Users/account/Library/BitShares X/chain and it started syncing again after a rebuild.

There may be a quicker solution that I don't know about. wallet_rescan_blockchain didn't work for me to fix.

General Discussion / Re: T-shirts/swag ideas

I just posted this in Gentso1's thread but realized the real discussion was here. I like "I killed the bank" as a quote but here are some generic quotes I thought up to apply across the BitShares ecosystem:

"Decentralized Systems for a Freer Tomorrow"

"Decentralized Systems for a Fairer Tomorrow"

"Decentralized Systems for a Fairer / Freer Future"

"Empowering Humanity to Manage Globalized Services Together"

"There's a token for that."

"Invest in the future of human collaboration."

"In DACs We (don't have to) Trust"

Hey guys. I've been lurking the forums for a while learning about the potential of BitShares. Hoping to get more involved with the ecosystem though. Some quote suggestions:

"Decentralized Systems for a Freer Tomorrow"

"Decentralized Systems for a Fairer Tomorrow"

"Decentralized Systems for a Fairer / Freer Future"

"Empowering Humanity to Manage Globalized Services Together"

"There's a token for that."

"Invest in the future of human collaboration."

"In DACs We (don't have to) Trust"

Same here, thanks Bter for fixing the issue!

I got a reply to my ticket.  Said the ticket is closed but to let them know if I still have a problem....No explanation or even saying it was fixed.  Regardless, still don't have my BTSX!  At least they answered the ticket.

It's unfortunate though, really unfortunate.  Definitely won't buy if I can't get it out.

Next reply said, "if I received the earlier ones, I should receive the last".   Thanks. I feel the same way.  Doesn't seem that they are actually doing anything other than saying, it should work.   :(

Same deal here on my first reply from bter customer support, I replied back and linked them to this thread and made sure to mention that this is happening to multiple users. Hopefully they will see there is actually a problem then.

What I'm trying to point out is that it is most likely not BTER's fault.

i don't believe that bter is handling transactions appropriately. on the one hand the transaction id that they provide is wrong. they are providing the block signature rather than txid which is only about 8 digits. when i tried to withdraw 45,000 btsx on their end it is said insufficient funds, which i think results from them creating individual deposit/widthrawal address for each account. they should simply have a main bter account registered on the blockchain and process transactions based on the memo field. i don't know why there are so many difficulties when titan makes it so much easier to transfer funds. can't wait till btsx is the main crypto exchange

I thought that there is still a 5000 per day limit?

They bumped the limit up to 45000 today. And I am in the same exact boat as clout. Missing 45000 BTSX in my wallet even though the transaction is posted as complete on bter. Submitted a support ticket to bter.com to try and resolve. I'll provide an update when they contact me back.
