FinCEN fines Ripple $700,000 for violating AML / KYC compliance and failing to register as a money services business when XRP is issued.

Because we are a community (not a company  8)), and the AGS were donated, does that allow BitShares to fly under the radar?

Thanks for improving accessibility Estefan... we need the French intellectuals on our side!   8)

I have 1 meetup slot left on meetup.com if you want to start a French meetup. Let me know and I will set it up and turn over the reins.

I want to celebrate rob, but um....a Satanic Temple?
Damnit I can't stop laughing...but I am certain later I'll start worrying about the mark of the beast because of this post.

As a matter of fact, I might start worrying now...

Lol glad you enjoyed it fuz. Here are some of my thoughts about Satanism in case you were wondering...

X-POST from /r/buttcoin:

Quote
You can read the tenets of The Satanic Temple here.

Satanism is a really loaded topic, similar to anarchy. It evokes images in our heads due to the stigmas and social conditioning that don't necessarily correspond to the actuality of the idea. Supernaturalism, devil-worship, sacrificing animals, etc. aren't what Satanism is about. That's just what propagandists would have you believe.

"We understand the Satanic figure as a symbol of man’s inherent nature, representative of the eternal rebel, enlightened inquiry and personal freedom rather than a supernatural deity or being."

Satanism is a challenge to dogma. A challenge to the guilt we burden ourselves with for simply being human. A challenge to rise to your fullest potential from within.

Also, I told the reporter from Motherboard some stuff about BitShares. Hopefully he includes it in the interview.

Thanks for aiding the disaster relief FreebieServers. I would suggest you support Direct Relief instead of Red Cross... I think the money will be used better.

Donated some bitBTC => BTC via blocktrades.us

Motherboard wants to do an interview. I'm going to try to sprinkle a few nuggets about BitShares. Streisand effect, ahoy!

tl;dr using p2p networks and a universal container for information, we can solve the problems of resiliency and scalability into trillions of nodes (people, devices).

Did he actually say anything else than this? I don't like this kind of talks with nice presentations, but nothing to present  :(

Not directly, that is my own oversimplification of it.  8) I tried to keep it kind of vague so as not to spoil the video. I thought he presented a helpful context for thinking about information complexity, such as the fact that humans have only dealt with information for 6000 years, but nature has been dealing with genetic information for 3 billion years.

It would be neat to find the DARPA software demo for a system using that universal container that he was talking about at the end and play with it.. might be on their OSS portal. He said that the system when used within DARPA resulted in a 400% increase in collaborative decision making and 300% improvement in situational awareness, much lower "time to learn", easily extensible, and easy on the bandwidth. I'll look into it more.

I guess they wrote a book about the same idea too, "Trillions": http://www.amazon.com/Trillions-Thriving-Emerging-Information-Ecology/dp/1118176073/

This is a very insightful talk discussing the emergent information economy and how we can scale it up, taking cues from how life itself manages ultra-complexity, and from looking at innovations that enabled the globalized economy to prosper.

Nice!  I now have many more questions than answers ...  Good ted talk.

What's the deal with the computerized slides? just a presentation gimmick?

I think it was simply to point out the ubiquity of computing looking into the future where we can scale production of cheaper and smaller machines. When we have trillions of devices, our current models of information transfer will break down in lieu of the universal, p2p, containerized format.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_centric_networking

CCN seems like an approach towards defining this universal container.

From skimming this paper, it seems to discuss a lot of different centralized investment schemes based on digital currency.

http://www.esma.europa.eu/system/files/2015-532_call_for_evidence_on_virtual_currency_investment.pdf

Maybe they would be interested in the use cases BitShares enables by putting orderbooks on the exchange, bitasset stablecoins,  & KYC / AML  compliance features.

How about Stan tries to get you to buy another rumor, there is no fact. Sorry Stan but for me these comments dont help.
Oh there's some facts. Just some elusive ones!

I was able to fire it up without any crash related problems on OS X. still hanging after auth for a while, I assume it is rescanning during this. It would be good to provide a message along side the loader, so users know something is happening in the back ground.
