General Discussion / STEEM hack discussion
« on: July 16, 2016, 03:41:35 pm »
So it looks like the STEEM hack might be worse than thought. The site has been read-only all morning and has been completely down for the last hour. Last I read regarding the hack was from @ash about 8 hours ago saying that the attacker is continuing to milk accounts.

Since Steemit is obviously down right now, I figured I'd bring the discussion over here. Anyone have a clue what the hell's going on?

Random Discussion / Hello?
« on: July 05, 2016, 03:36:02 pm »

Miss this forum. lol.  :(

Alright well anyway let's give this thread some purpose (for old time's sake  ;)). How do you feel about the transition to Steem? Have you made the jump yourself? Do you still hodl BTS? When do you think we'll get the next summer announcement (heh)? Full disclosure - I still hold BTS and also have some Steem now. I like the idea of Steem and it seems like incentives are aligned pretty well for some nice growth. But, I still prefer the simplicity of communicating on these forums. And I can't help but feel like Steem is becoming an echo-chamber (far worse than anything the BTS forum ever was) and the whole "I have to alter how I word this sentence to make sure I don't piss off the whales" mindset really puts me off, in a censorship-hating kind of way.

I try to import backup from 0.9.3c that was exported using wallet_export_keys command and it just says "Invalid Format". Am I missing something obvious?

Technical Support / Missing chunk of BTS
« on: September 05, 2015, 06:15:08 pm »
Hi all,

I had exported my wallet earlier to reinstall Windows, but after reimporting the wallet was showing me as not having a BTS balance at all. Was pretty terrifying. I tried reindexing the blockchain (the client crashed on me and I let it reset the database), and running the wallet_regenerate_keys command with 20,000, but it was only able to "find" about 84% of my previous BTS balance. I'm also missing all but 130 of my Brownie balance. The amounts remaining seem pretty random. Due to a bug my client had a long time ago, I'm not able to see anything in the "recent transaction" history section either, so I have no idea if my funds were sent somewhere or what. Any ideas? Appreciate any help.

Technical Support / Wallet shows nothing in "recent transactions"
« on: May 28, 2015, 01:56:16 pm »
Not the end of the world, but it would be nice to see what my latest purchases etc were. Any ideas why this would be empty? I've made a lot of purchases lately that I receive fine and all that, but there's no history for me to look at...

Technical Support / Can I get an acccount name re-registered to my wallet?
« on: February 28, 2015, 12:05:42 pm »
I'm hoping I didn't do something stupid here. I created a new account and registered it on the blockchain, then sent a good chunk of BTS to it. The new account in the wallet received it just fine. But then my computer crapped out and I had to reinstall Windows. My latest wallet backup was from about a week before I created the new account though, so when I reimported my wallet, it doesn't show the new account name registered to me and it shows that I sent my BTS to "UNKNOWN".

Is there any way to get the new account re-associated to myself?

I can see in my transaction history when I registered the account on the blockchain for the "unknown" account for 0.1 BTS, under details it says "Register account name: [name of my account]", so it at least has some record of me making the new account. But how can I get it to show up in my accounts list?

Meta / Will we ever reach 1.0?
« on: February 19, 2015, 07:12:44 pm »
GitHub activity seems to be at an all-time low. Milestone issues have remained practically unchanged for the past 1-2 weeks. BTS 0.6.2 is already 4 days past due.

Now there's talk of dev time going to Music/Play. I truly feel that at the rate we're going, we will be completely dominated by these "powered by BitShares" competitors because they have none of the bad PR, inflation issues, or merger bad-taste-in-mouth problems going on in BTS. How could we possibly compete, when inflation keeps dwindling our market cap, little seems to be truly advancing development-wise, and the devs aren't keeping us in the loop (in regards to concrete timelines, current focuses, etc)?

Seriously -- what is going on? As a shareholder in this "company" I feel a bit of transparency is sorely needed.

General Discussion / Should we make an official ann thread on bitcointalk?
« on: February 13, 2015, 03:07:24 pm »
This comment from someone at bitcointalk got me thinking:

Quote
main problem with bitshares is : it's too complicated.
it's my own opinion, but i wanted to invest in it few days ago and tried to get more informations.... but i resigned
there isn't an official ann thread here, i couldn't find any clear coin specifications,
i was lost between what is bitshares, bitsharesX, pts, etc. etc..etc....
WTF so complicated?  is that coin only for the tech nerds?
make it simple... or at least keep it complicated for the insiders, but build a simple cover for newcomers that aren't such tech-hardcore
this stuff exist already? cool.... please post the link and i will check again cuz i'm still interested

I feel like it is kind of important to have an official bitcointalk thread of some kind going, with concise info as to the specs, features, etc. Like it or not a lot of people solely get their info from there and refuse to take the time to venture out to other sites (bitsharestalk) for their info. I know, because I used to be this way. Should this be considered?

General Discussion / Will Ethereum swallow us whole come March?
« on: February 10, 2015, 06:05:47 pm »
Or do you think 1.0 will be ready and we'll finally get the liftoff we need? I haven't been keeping tabs on Ethereum's progress, but last I heard there was only gonna be a CLI client ready for launch in March? Anyone know how realistic their timeline is, compared to the BTS timeline? Can BTS beat them to the mark?

I'm also curious about the market cap of ethereum - I know they sold a ton in the presale, but will the presale price be sustainable? Would it be worthwhile to consider buying ethereum as soon as it comes out at whatever price, maybe as a 50% allocation of your portfolio?

Is the ethereum tech really all that it's being made out to be? Does it even matter, seeing as how they already seem to have network effect just due to the massive hype?

I realize this is more speculation than anything, but still...I'm curious on others' thoughts.

March is gonna be an interesting month...

General Discussion / BitReserve looking to steal the rest of our BitAssets
« on: December 30, 2014, 03:25:12 pm »
Looking at the BitReserve website again today (https://bitreserve.org/en/about-us/trademark-notice), and it looks like they're going on a trademark spree for all Bit* terms:

•BITRESERVE
•The BITRESERVE logo
•RESERVECHAIN
•RESERVELEDGER
•bitdollar
•bityuan
•bityen
•biteuro
•bitpound
•bitgold
•bitsilver
•bitpalladium
•bitelectrum
•bitmxpeso
•bitphpeso
•bitpeso

A Google search brings up trademark applications for each of these, filed 2014-12-02 (http://trademarks.justia.com/864/68/bitdollar-86468934.html, http://trademarks.justia.com/864/68/biteuro-86468938.html, http://trademarks.justia.com/864/68/bitgold-86468612.html, etc). It looks like none have been reviewed though (and thus they haven't been granted the trademarks yet, I'd presume), as the status shows "New Application - Record Initialized Not Assigned To Examiner" for each.

An interesting trademark application for bitdollar appears to have been made on 2014-03-13, and was apparently granted on 2014-12-12 with the status "Publication/Issue Review Complete" (http://trademarks.justia.com/862/20/bitdollar-86220809.html)

Are we really gonna let a centralized POS company backed by the scam artist Halsey Minor steal our limelight? Do we have any options to debate these trademarks with the USPTO (as our product was first to market to something?)

Oh, and BitReserve apparently also just completed its second crowdfunding round, bringing its total raised to $14 million now and becoming the second best crowdfunded digital currency project after Ethereum's $18 million (http://cointelegraph.com/news/113217/bitreserve-raises-us95-million-in-second-largest-crowdfunding-round-in-the-digital-currency-sector).

I feel a war brewing...

General Discussion / What's our timeline?
« on: December 10, 2014, 05:40:24 pm »
I remember reading a few months back that the bitUSD debit cards were planned to be available at the end of the year, and I think this was supposed to coincide with the "main" marketing push and release of 1.0, etc. Lately I've seen reference to Q1 2015 for some of this stuff, which could be as many as 4 months out.

How much time are we realistically looking at here? I don't mean to come off as impatient, but it's hard knowing we have this technology and seeing a company like BitReserve come in and muddle our brand with their centralized crap, and knowing that potentially game-changing projects are in the works that can steal the spotlight at any time (Ethereum, Medici, etc)...I don't want to see BTS lose its thunder.

Obviously, if time is needed then it's needed and I have to stay patient, as we don't want to push a half-baked product. I'm just dying to get a good estimate of our overall outlook.

No pressure.  ;)

General Discussion / Will we go below DOGE???
« on: November 01, 2014, 10:35:24 am »
If this ridiculous dumping continues its path, BTS may slip to the number 5 spot...overtaken by DOGE.

Sad state of crypto...

I have to believe things will even out after Nov. 5th and everything's concrete again, but still it's tough to watch.
