General Discussion / Re: Anouncement Concerning BTS Vesting
« on: January 21, 2015, 02:10:38 am »
Does anyone know how to import the KeyID wallet backup into BitShares? There's no option for it under "wallet type" in the client, and if you try to import under "Bitcoin/PTS" it gives the error "Db::open: Invalid argument (13) Db::open: Invalid argument:".

Hmm...looks interesting. The Chinese stuff is kind of confusing though, for obvious reasons.

All I know is: I want that Batman vs Superman BTS wallpaper. 1920 x 1200. Stat.

General Discussion / Re: Paycoin lolz

I am absolutely amazed at the number of red flags raised about paycoin. Since it was first announced I've thought "wow, this looks like an incredibly obvious scam". Seems every day more and more news drops about it probably being a scam ($20 wall was a flat out lie, Garza's speech at TNABC cancelled, SEC investigating, Hashtalk censoring dissenting voices, Garza tweeting that the "target is $25" like a good-for-nothing pumper)...

And yet...it's still #4 in market cap. What the hell am I missing here???

I would wait for 2 -3 days since kind of afraid tomorrow's huge amounts of bts released on a single day......

What are you talking about?

Vested balance.

Oh right. Do you think we could see a dump tomorrow?

Well let's see...I believe the vesting period began on 11/5/14, right? Two and a half months. And the vesting is for a period of 2 years...which means approx. 52,083,333 of the 500,000,000 new BTS will be unlocked at once. I can't imagine everyone is going to claim all at once, and I'm sure plenty of people will want to hold it...

But yea, there may be a small dump going on.

Maybe we should wait a year for BTS to get solid footing before unlocking the balances?  :P

General Discussion / Re: bitshares of BitShares? [Poll]
« on: January 19, 2015, 06:46:21 pm »
Well, the current logo does say "bitshares"...and lowercase is considered hip, modern, and cool...and many people are lazy and apparently don't like to capitalize when typing, so I'm sure "bitshares" will often be typed either way...so I'd just say match the logo and keep everything simple: "bitshares".

As I understand it, every time new BitUSD is created, 300% (?) reserve of BTS is locked as collateral. Thus, theoretically as more BTS is locked and unable to be sold, the supply should decrease, which increases price.

This can't hold the price up if there isn't all that much BitUSD created, and if external market forces are bringing price down. But theoretically it should be helping make the price decline less severe.

Correct me if any of this is wrong.

lol rune, are you shuai?

Nice post whoever wrote that. Just controversial enough to stir up some shit and get people thinking.

I agree with Empirical on this one. Separate "entity" websites would be a great way to laser-focus on a particular customer set, without overloading them with the million different things BTS is trying to be. This will eventually become essential if we want to resonate with the masses.

BTS is the backend. Our frontends need some work.

That's actually pretty awesome. I don't know how exactly, but we need something like that.

General Discussion / Re: NuBits is a Ponzi [BLOG POST]

NuShares up 50% over the last 24 hours ....

NuBits being bought like crazy as shelter?

NuShares price is skewed by Excoin; for whatever reason they're reporting a price of $ 0.028013 on low volume. BTER and CCEDK still show the price at just over a penny.

http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/nushares/#markets

...but even so, they are holding their own fairly well. Probably because they're practically the only coin showing green. That alone will probably cause people to buy it as shelter...which will continue to up the price. Nice little self-reinforcing system going on.

I think you could have explained it fairly (as you do) without using the Ponzi label (which is unnecessarily sensationalist). To me, that implies fraud beyond the design of NuBots. It imputes some dishonest intentions. I'd prefer to believe that the NuBots people are honest, even if it's a flawed design that relies on IOUs. Aside from that criticism, the article is well-written.

Agreed.

You guys are really being delusional cultists here.

NuShares is up 500% over the past several months, while Bitshares has had nothing but failures to market itself.
Nubits has never been far from $1.00, it has worked just as well as bitUSD, but they have marketed far better.

Sad, really. There's simply no reason why BitUSD shouldn't be the one with >$1,000,000 volume during this turmoil.

At the moment, NuBits/NuShares has us beat. I don't know how, but that's what's happened. The question is...can we reclaim the throne?

I'm actually starting to have my doubts.

http://bytemaster.bitshares.org/article/2015/01/13/NuBits-is-a-Ponzi-Scheme/

Unfortunately, that just looks like a FUD attack to the rest of the crypto world who seem to love NuBits. Doesn't matter if it's technically correct or not. Market doesn't care. It will be used to show how desperate to put down other coins BTS has become.

General Discussion / Re: The end of POW approaches...

Unfortunately we're not well positioned to take advantage of it yet so it's likely we'll continue to fall in unison for the time being.

Unless of course bitcoin goes back up...

It can happen.....right? RIGHT??
