General Discussion / Re: Big bug in GUI asset update?
« on: January 05, 2016, 06:41:13 am »
I have tested and found that now the force settlement feature is actually enabled for TCNY.

according to the design, force settlement/allow witness to provide feed features should both be disabled because of the change but actually not, this is another bug and when in the future the bug be fixed these features will be actually disabled for TCNY, right?
Lack of detailed document of "feature description" or "feature requirement" yet. "We" need to make one, otherwise the code is correct in any case.

so I wonder whether there are ways to reserve these features for TCNY, as they are important for a smartcoin.
To "reserve these features" it may need a hard fork.

Yeah I agree.   The features should be consistent with regular smartcoins.  (Although I'd probably want to disable forced settlement or make it 90%.)

So do these bugs just occur in the GUI and will CLI changes work fine?
It depends on how you use CLI, E.G. what command, what parameters, afaik some commands are fine but others are not.

I think they're following the github. However there is no much information on the newest release like before.
BM mentioned that CNX will announce something soon in the "witness alert and status" thread.

This release:

Replaying the blockchain will be required, and should occur automatically.

Technical Support / Re: bitshares wallet help
« on: January 05, 2016, 06:24:40 am »
I've run into a couple of issues....

First when i attempted to access the v0.9.3c console client in order to check my balances, it appeared to open, but then wouldn't allow me to type anything in it.  So i bypassed that hoping my balances would be accurate.
So you've made a new backup with v0.9.3c right?
Console output or screenshot of that "wouldn't allow me to type anything in it" please? Maybe just need some more patient.

Then once I had downloaded v2.0.151223 of the Bitshares2-light client, within settings , wallet management console, i found only 4 options;

Active Wallet:
Key Import Tool
Restore Backup
New Wallet

Clicking on Key Import Tool does nothing so i am currently unable to import my keys.

So close   :D
Maybe have to create new wallet first.. but not required to create a new account.

Is there any reason why v0.9.3c would not open?  I installed as suggested and the client screen has been showing 'starting BitShares' for many hours now.  I've tried restarting the application but its the same result.

I may just be being impatient!  But thought it worth checking.....
So you need to try the steps described in page 1 of this thread.
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20197.msg260405.html#msg260405
(Looks like you've tried it last time with a success, now try again.)

After opened, you may need to try the steps in this post https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20822.0.html

Technical Support / Re: I want to be a faucet
« on: January 04, 2016, 09:03:42 pm »
Maybe it's better to host a web wallet rather than only a faucet.

//Edit: need to add your faucet to the GUI / light wallet and give user a chance to select your faucet (now there is a edit box for faucet address but not a list like Websocket address).

Thanks for the efforts.
"Review begins in 14 days" Can it be earlier?
Sure .. but only with a new proposal. I think we should take the 2 weeks and figure out what to do with the funds and not rush into something .. This would also allow me to properly code a script and test it until the funds are release (or not)
It makes sense to me.

Quote
Maybe you can enlighten me about a detail: Is the review period right before the expiration of a proposal or is the review period first and no one can vote within that period?
I think it's more likely to be the former.

3473
Here we go. Now you need to convince the committee to approve

* click on the "please make backup to continue" link -> a "no translation for" message on the button
* click on the button -> a "download" button and a "missing translation" button
* main page -> 2 "missing translation" message on the list below
* the "5KPX..." displayed near the bar-code is the private key of the account or what, why does it change every time reloading the page?
* lots of "missing translation" in the "send" page.

//Edit: language was set to Chinese by default on my phone. It looks better after set language to English.
//Edit2: if language set to Chinese, it shows only spaces at where should be some words. But the date/time displayed in Chinese is fine.

Wow! v0.5.0 client ran successfully and I was able to import my backup!  Picture a big ginger bearded baldy skipping around the house, kissing inanimate objects and dancing with anyone that gets in the way....thank you so much for all the help and especially your persistence @xeroc , @cube  & @abit !!

So i really want to get this next bit right.  Please correct me if i'm wrong;

Delete the Bitshares folder in roaming
uninstall v0.5.0

install v0.9.3c
run v0.9.3c
import new v0.5.0 backup file
export new v0.9.3c backup file
import new v0.9.3c backup file into openledger

Is that right?
My suggestions as above.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but it doesn't work. First I click on withdraw, then page down on the red withdraw button.
Even though I am logged into bitsharestalk on he other tab, sharebits complains that I have to log in. After clicking on the log in button it takes me back to sharebits.io and the thing starts from step 1 again.
@fuzzy Me too. @kuro112

At Sharebits click Security.
Generate Code.
Go to BTS forum to get code.
Click Withdraw at Sharebits.
Login using BTS forum account.
Enter security code during login.
Go to Withdraw again.
Withdraw.
Thanks for the tutorial.
I was always wondering what the security code is.

Ho does this help AT ALL?
If you only allow to vote for 3 witnesses, then we have 3 witnesses from china, 3 from europe and 3 from the US. all of them will have LESS votes and will be easier to overtake
not easier than now, because each people's voting power will decrease.
diversify will help a global DAC,

Quote
The point of DAC is not decentralization, the point is to make profits. To take care of the profitability we need somebody to make good decisions on blockchain parameters. This is what committee is for. It is not very reasonable to do decentralization just because decentralization. You have to always justify it.
DAC surely should be dencentralized, otherwise it should not be named DAC,

actually in my view currently Bitshares 2.0 is more like a country than a company, because its revenue comes from the fees paid by the shareholders, in another word, more exactly the fees can be called tax.
A person who only owns bitUSD is a user, not a shareholder. Make more use of the 'products' but not the 'shares' would let the platform look more like a company.

Quote

for a company, normally the more revenue, the better, but this is not the case for a country. high revenue of a country often means high tax rate, and high burden of the people. these all always deactivate the economy.

at first Bitshares announced to be a decentralized autonomous company, but up to now it is not really decentralized yet, we need to improve further, we need to keep updating the management infrastructure to what we really needed,  but anyway decentralization is needed. as a company, we should not put the company under the control of CEO himself. the CEO should report to the board and work under the supervision of the board.
Is the committee in BitShares purposed to be something like the board in a company? I'm not sure.

Funds can of course also be split up :)

A short 15 min script can also be written.

I wonder who could possibly have the skills to do it????  ;)

Sure .. But for whom? The committe members? or a single trusted entity?
I think the core (proposed transactions functionality) can used and reused in a lot of cases.
So something for anyone. The user inputs her credentials/keys for her multi-sig account(s) and each day when running the script all existing proposals pop up for approval/rejection. and there is one more option - add new proposed tx.

PS
And for this particular case I do not know... let the committee decide. If it is too much work to do it themselves each day... they can send the funds to trusted party(s) even mid process...using the same tool even.
A to-do list pops up every time when open the GUI? News, announcements & notices and some user-defined subscriptions? Sounds interesting.

//Edit: what if one never open the GUI?
