General Discussion / The Moonstone Wallet early alpha testing
« on: June 08, 2016, 06:46:52 pm »
Dear Bitshares community,

We are writing this on a happy note, because we have made strides in the development of Moonstone. There have been many challenges along the way, but we believe everything worth doing is worth doing well.
Currently we are in alpha, and have given some Bitshares Forum users access to Moonstone. They are currently testing and providing invaluable feedback, for which we are very grateful.
Once we get sufficient feedback from our early alpha testers we intend to open up to a broader audience. Therefore, the more the early testers help us the faster we can get Moonstone to the general community.
We believe that Blockchain communities are among the most progressive and friendly ones in the technology space. We are extremely grateful to have the chance to work with all of you on the future of the Internet!

With love,
Your Bitsapphire team.

General Discussion / Maintenance thread
« on: July 21, 2015, 11:36:58 am »
We are making a few changes to our hosting infrastructure to better support the growth in volume of users and the geographic diversity of our visits. For this reason the forum will not be available temporarily between 11PM and 3AM Central time Wednesday 22nd July.

The forum software is going to stay the same, we are simply transferring everything to AWS.

EDIT 1:
Our next maintenance is scheduled on Sunday evening 07/26 from 11PM to 3AM CST. During this time we might experience service outage.

Edit 2:
We have moved to a new server, please report any problem here. Thank you for your support and sorry for any inconvenience.

General Discussion / Privatized Smartcoin questions
« on: June 24, 2015, 05:34:02 pm »
@bytemaster

  • Will it be possible for the Private Smartcoin (PSC) creator to specify which assets can be used for collateralization?
  • Will the PSC feed issuer need to supply a price feed for all assets which can be used as collateral?
  • Could the price feed for each collateral be set as the last trading price of that asset/PSC pair on the decentralized exchange? That way you only need an initializer and then the price feed becomes blockchain endogenous.

If the above is possible than PSC creators/providers would have exclusively a certification authority function rather than an information providing function. Certifying for use certain gateway IOUs as well as IDs which can hold the PSCs. Legally this would shield them a lot and the users could hold a stable asset without needing to be exposed to the counterparty risk of the individual gateway issuers.

The exchange rate between those gateway IOUs and and the PSC would effectively represent the counterparty risk of the gateway (as assessed through the market) together with with order book depth between the individual gateway IOUs and the PSC. Effectively, this would function like an insurance for users.

We've been working on a similar system (Pactum) for some time at Bitsapphire. If this is possible it could open up a new business model in the Bitshares ecosystem.

Hi everybody!

This is the official Moonstone development and crowdfunder diary. We will get all updates as soon as possible to this thread, so please subscribe to this thread if you want to be up to date!

Moonstone development is continuing in great steps. We will be presenting the frontend for the first time at the Texas Bitcoin Conference March 28th. You'll be able to see the initial screenshots in our upcoming bitshares.tv video interview (thanks Max!).

Moonstone.io is currently being translated to Mandarin Chinese. The video is already available with Mandarin subtitles.

We are proud to announce that we will be integrating metaexchange natively with the Moonstone wallet. This means that you will be able to exchange BitShares and related UIAs within the wallet with BTC. The Metaexchange team will also help us in the crowdfunder with their phenomenal exchange daemon. We believe that this might be the future of how these crowdfunders will happen. Because we require a pay to public key functionality form the Metaexchange daemon we decided to be push back the crowdfunder campaign until that is developed. The new crowdfunding starting date is now April 7th  9th.

Until the end of March we will disclose the full timeline for future feature releases such as Identity Verification for gateway services, multi-blockchain support (including Bitcoin through the Bitcore wallet suite), and multisig support.

EDDIT April 5th:

We have decided to hold the fundraiser exclusively in BTC, there won't be a BTS or bitAsset option. The reasons are that the liquidity between BTS and BTC is so low that selling 130k USD worth opf BTS into BTC to cash out into fiat would according to our calculations move the market simply too much.

However we would like everybody to take part in the poll in this thread and let us know whether you would like to get 1.15 USD or 1.15 BTS through a buyback. Our original plan was to do a bitUSD buyback but it seems there might be interest in doing the unit of account in terms of BTS rather than USD. After all, the community is long on BTS.

Depending on the outcome of the poll we might have to postpone the crowdfunding campaign another day.

Please vote in the poll in this thread and let us know what you think!

EDDIT April 6th:

Based on the outcome of the poll we have decided to denominate the buyback in terms of BTS. This means that for every BTC you send in the price will be converted into the equivalent in terms of BTS at the time of donation, and you will receive 1.15 Moonstone tokens for every BTS equivalent you donated.

To accomodate the changes and to do some more testing on our crowdfunder setup we are postponing the start of the crowdfunding campaign to April 9th.

Once the wallet is released as version 1.0 the buyback with the d delegates will commence. Our delegates will be operational and can be voted in by May.

Final Timeline:

  • Thursday, April 9th 2015 12.00 PM UTC (noon) the crowdfunding campaign will start
  • Saturday, May 9th 2015 12.00 PM UTC (noon) the crowdfunding campaign ends.
  • May: The wallet software version 0.9 final public test release will be made (with the MIT license if the crowdfunder reaches our goal of 130k USD)
  • June: Version 1.0 of the wallet is released after extensive public testing.

If you have any questions please let us know!

EDIT April 10th:

It seems that there is such a strong interest to donate BTS rather than BTC our crowdfunder that some people are thinking about buying MOONFUND tokens on the internal exchange straight with BTS. (See this thread https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,15663.0/topicseen.html)

We're opening therefore a poll to see whether enough people are interested in us putting a sell order of Moonstones at about 0.9-0.92 BTS on the internal exchange. This way almost everybody should be able to participate (though at a slightly lower potential return rate, as we still need to cash out to fiat for operations). We would then also need to update the funds collected on the website manually a few times a day.

Please let us know what you think, and please vote in the poll!

DAC PLAY / A mod deleted some reported posts - no censorship
« on: March 12, 2015, 10:52:25 pm »
Hi people,

A lower mod deleted (without bad intentions) an official Play post today. Just wanted to let everybody know that no censorship happened, just a mishap.

Thanks for your understanding.

Hi everybody,

After quite an interesting discussion on our last thread we convened with the team and tried to come up with an alternative proposal.

Our new fundraiser proposal:
  • February: Launch the Moonstone landing page and get the word out.
  • March: We’ll do a scaled kickstarter with a minimum of 130,000 USD worth in BTC/BTS and no upper limit. Donation period will be 30 days.
  • We’ll map everybody’s public keys and send Bitsapphire UIAs to the corresponding public keys on BitShares. For every USD worth in BTC/BTS you send you’ll get 1.15 Bitsapphire UIAs (we have increased it from 1.1 to 1.15 due to higher risk as a result of opt-out delegates).
  • Once the campaign ends and we reach the sufficient budget, both the frontend and backend of the wallet will be released under the MIT license (this means that anybody will have the right to use our code also for for-profit reasons). This is especially appealing to projects out there which need lightweight DPOS wallets but don’t want to develop it themselves. Future DPOS forked projects will also be able to easily use the code.
  • The wallet will have 5 opt-out delegates which can be deselected upon installation and whenever you want. All proceedings from the delegates will be converted to bitUSD. 100% of these bitUSD will be used to set 1:1 buy orders for the Bitsapphire UIAs you received. Further monetization efforts will be reviewed later on by Bitsapphire (such as featured assets, markets, etc)
  • This means that anybody who sent donations will receive 15% more than put in. Depending on the BTS market cap, this means that you’ll effectively get your donation back in 5-30 months (rough calculation based on historical BTS market cap, not binding and dependent on Delegate proceedings).
  • If we fail to reach our budget the Moonstone Angular frontend will be released under the more restrictive GPL3 license which makes it impossible to use the code for for-profit reasons. The backend which makes the light client possible remains closed source. Nonetheless, the wallet will be released with the same number of delegates and whatever budget we got will be converted as planned with a 1:1 ratio.

All funds received are considered donations, no actions on our part are binding in any way. However, similar to the BitShares no-force approach we intend on following through with the above steps (unless the community gives us at this point good counter arguments or better proposals).

What are your thoughts on the improved fundraiser proposal?

Hello everybody,

At Bitsapphire we have been working tirelessly for the last few months on our own BitShares wallet called Moonstone. You can subscribe for updates on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+. Working with the BitShares Music / Peertracks team has helped us tremendously to advance the Moonstone architecture beyond what we initially planned.

4 developers have been working on the Moonstone full-time so far, while the entire team of 17 people gave regular input to the project.

Intro screen videos will be added to this thread next week. We hope to be able to present the project in a mumble talk and answer any community questions.

We plan on doing a kickstarter-style fundraiser within a few weeks and wanted to get the community’s feedback on our fundraiser approach. We have already recorder the video for the fundraiser and we are working on video editing, etc.

The plan is as follows:
  • February: Launch the Moonstone landing page and get the word out.
  • March: We’ll do a scaled kickstarter with a minimum of 130,000 USD worth in BTC/BTS and no upper limit. Donation period would be 30 days.
  • We’ll map everybody’s public keys and send Bitsapphire UIAs to the corresponding public keys on BitShares. For every USD worth in BTC/BTS you send you’ll get 1.1 Bitsapphire UIAs.
  • Once the campaign ends and we reach the sufficient budget, our user friendly wallet will be released under the MIT license (this means that anybody will have the right to use our code also for for-profit reasons). This is especially appealing to projects out there which need lightweight DPOS wallets but don’t want to develop it themselves. Future DPOS forked projects will also be able to easily use the code.
  • The wallet will have 3-5 hardcoded delegates. All proceedings from the delegates will be converted to bitUSD. 100% of these bitUSD will be used to set 1:1 buy orders for the Bitsapphire UIAs you received.
  • This means that anybody who sent donations will receive 10% more than put in.

We’d love to get input from the community. What do you think?

Hello all,

After the recent forum software update we are going to update the look and feel of the forum slightly step by step as to not disturb the usage patterns of anybody using the forum. The forum software will remain SMF.

We will start with simple CSS changes and will work our way up to functionality changes.

We are informing you so you know that everything is fine with your browser and machine.

Your Bitsapphire Team.
