General Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - Good or Bad?
« on: October 21, 2014, 10:46:11 am »
As far as I am concerned, Bitcoin is good since it got my started in Crypto and was the first to start the crypto market.  An addition to having BTSX and DNS, I have BTC and have added to my BTC earlier this month when the Bitcoin $ price fell hard.  I also plan to add more BTC if/when it falls again.  If anyone is in cryptos, then BTC should be a significant part of your crypto holdings in my opinion.  I also continue to earn bitcoin from the faucets and I have used a significant part of my BTC faucet earnings to buy NOTES from the Bitshares Music website during the current pre-sale period.

General Discussion / Re: How much btsx did you panic sell?
« on: October 21, 2014, 10:39:42 am »
I was buying BTSX in small increments when it was going down.  My last small purchase (~31 BTSX) occurred last Sunday (10-19-2014) when the BTSX price was 5510 satoshi.  I still have some BTC left on Bter (and on Bittrex) to buy more BTSX if/when it goes down to under 5000 satoshi.  If/when it goes to under 4000 satoshi, then I will unload some bitUSD to buy more BTSX.

What Xeroc said,  I also bought most of my NOTES during this current pre-sale period by using my blockchain.info wallet.

General Discussion / Re: Good time to buy BitUSD? BitGLD or BitCNY?
« on: October 20, 2014, 01:17:37 am »
As far as I am concerned, it is a good time to buy more BTSX which I have been doing during the downturn and will continue to do so as long as the price is falling.  If/when the BTSX price falls below 4000 satoshi, then I will unload some bitUSD to buy more BTSX.

EDIT:  FWIW my last BTSX purchase was today when the price was 5510 satoshi.  I will just sit back and see if it falls below 5000 sat to buy more BTSX.

General Discussion / Re: My first BitUSD experience
« on: October 20, 2014, 01:14:47 am »
I started buying USD when 1 bitUSD = 26 BTSX on average.  During the downturn of the BTSX price, I did not sell any bitUSD to buy more BTSX but I sold all of my PTS (for a profit) to 1.) Buy more BTSX when it was between 5510 and 6270 sat, 2.) To buy more NOTES during the Bitshares MUSIC pre-sale period and 3.) to buy more DNS when the price was in the 310 to 324 sat. price range.

My plan going forward:  I have some BTC left on Bter and Bittrex to buy more BTSX if the price falls below 5000 sats.  If/when the BTSX price falls under 4000 sat, then I will unload some bitUSD to buy more BTSX (currently 1 bitUSD = 45 BTSX).

General Discussion / Re: Bitcoin at $330 ?
« on: October 10, 2014, 01:25:30 am »
I did manage to buy some fractional BTC on Coinbase (bought only 1/3 BTC) when the price was at $290.00. I will buy more if it falls below $250.

Including the 1/3 BTC that I bought when the $ price was $290, I ended up buying a total bitcoin amount of 1 BTC for a total cost of $334.56 during this recent bitcoin $ drop.  I am happy with this BTC purchase.  :)

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares Music Presale begins in 2 hours

I think it's better if @cob adds a warning message, say "Do not sent BTC from exchanges or web wallet which does not support private key export (e.g. Coinbase)" This will reduce a lot of confuse and drudgery work.

I do have a Coinbase online wallet but I also have a blockchain.info online wallet as well as a personal software bitcoin wallet.  I did not use any BTC from my personal bitcoin wallet on my computer because I am using that wallet to save up BTC that I earn from the bitcoin faucets on the intetnet, however, I had some BTC from my Blockchain online wallet and I sent some BTC from that wallet to the NOTES presale BTC address from my Blockchain.info online bitcoin wallet.  It was not much.  Only 10,000 satoshi.

It is a hard decision!

Faced similar one today... should I sell some BTSX to buy undervalued shares in the KeyID DNS. (I have No BTC, all new BTC coming from fiat in 4-5 days)
... chose not too, but only time will tell...

Just look at it as choosing between good and better...

I was up about 150% on one of my alt coin investments so I decided to take some BTC profit by selling part of that alt coin investment.  After, I claimed my DNS shares from the 8-21-2014 snapshot, I used about 80% of the BTC profit proceeds from the sale of one of my alt coin investments to buy DNS (bought at average cost of 399 sat/DNS) to add to my DNS balance and the remaining 10% to buy more BTSX.  I am happy with this move.

As for BTC, I did buy some BTC from Coinbase over a week ago when the $ price was at $380 but it was only $12 worth.  I am also earning BTC from the faucets on a weekly basis.  The BTC that I earn from the various internet faucets will go to my personal bitcoin software wallet and the $12 worth of BTC that I recently purchased with $ and currently have on coinbase will be "spent" mainly on buying DNS and for possibly buying more BTSX if it goes down from current levels.

KeyID / Re: [DNS] v0.0.2 - Trade the snapshot and fight for delegate pay

No problem!  But I really want to know what's wrong with my wallet import. and is there any guide to do that.

Did you try to dump private keys from your qt wallet?

The command you're looking for is wallet_import_bitcoin.

wallet_import_bitcoin /home/user/.bitcoin/wallet.dat "Everyone loves Fishes!" xman

wallet_import_bitcoin <wallet_filename> <passphrase> <account_name>
Imports a Bitcoin Core or BitShares PTS wallet

Parameters:
wallet_filename (filename, required): the Bitcoin/PTS wallet file path
passphrase (passphrase, required): the imported wallet's password
account_name (account_name, required): the account to receive the contents of the wallet

Was planning to use my BTSX account name but I changed my mind and ended up creating a new account name for my DNS wallet.  After creating my new account name for the DNS wallet, then I tried to import my PTS wallet private keys.  After numerous tries, I was able to claim my share of DNS by importing my PTS wallet private keys by doing the above.  I checked my new DNS wallet and I saw that it was successful.  The DNS share balance that represented the amount of PTS that I held on the 8-21-2014 snapshot did show up in my DNS wallet.  Thanks for sharing how to do this.

Technical Support / Re: !!! Stupid Questions Thread !!!

If you can't trade directly from BTC to BitUSD, like you said, you can go from BTC -> BTSX -> move to wallet/exchange app -> trade to BitUSD.

Your $480 will be "locked in" even if BTSX goes down in value.

This is exactly what I have been doing with a "twist".  I do the following:

1.) Buy BTSX on Bter in the 8100 - 8250 satoshi range for the last couple days.

2.) After I buy the BTSX on Bter, I withdraw the BTSX from Bter to put it in my BTSX wallet

3,) Once it shows up in my BTSX wallet, then I immediately put a large chunk of that recent Bter purchase in BitUSD.

4.) Rinse and repeat with the next BTSX purchase from Bter.

I do the above for each BTSX purchase that I buy from Bter.  The "twist" for me is that I do not put all of every BTSX purchase into BitUSD.  For example, I might put about 20%-60% of each BTSX purchase into BitUSD when it shows up in my wallet and keep the rest of that purchase order in BTSX.  Somewhat hedging myself just in case BTSX goes up from the 8100-8250 satoshi range but if it went down from current price levels (it goes down to 4000 sat/BTSX for example), then I can buy more BTSX with the BitUSD that I bought with the BTSX that I previously bought on Bter when it was in the 8100-8250 sat price range.

General Discussion / Re: Is Anyone Still Holding Bitcoin?
« on: September 11, 2014, 03:41:43 am »
I used to have over half of my small crypto holdings in Bitcoin but I sold it and bought some PTS, BTSX, Lottoshares and two alt coins (Whitecoin and DOGE).  I also bought some BitUSD with a good chunk of my BTSX holdings.  Those (except for DOGE) are my long term holdings and over half of my crypto holdings are in Bitshares (PTS, BTSX, BitUSD and LTS).   I am always going to have some Bitcoin (mainly from Bitcoin faucet earnings) but I will mainly use most of the bitcoin that I have to trade with it or to buy more BTSX or buy more PTS (if I can save enough BTC).

13
I did make a small trade a few minutes ago.  I sold 1.2 BitUSD to buy 33.2+ BTSX a few minutes ago (at a rate of 27.55 BTSX/BitUSD).  I thought that was a good trade at 27.55 BTSX/BitUSD considering that when I used some BTSX that I bought on Bter at prices between 7500 sat and 8700 sat to immediately sell on the BTSX exchange to buy BitUSD last month I was buying at an average rate of ~24.5 BTSX/BitUSD.  I still have some BitUSD left if there is a more favorable trade down the road if BTSX went down in price.

The 32-bit version of the Bitshares X 4.12 version wallet just finished re-indexing and it ran smoothly with no issues at all on my Windows 8 laptop.  I recommend using the 32-bit version of BTSX 4.12 if the 64-bit version does not work with a Win8 computer.

where do you download the 32-bit version from?

I downloaded the 32-bit version from the following link:

https://github.com/dacsunlimited/bitsharesx/releases/tag/0.4.12

click on the "BitShares X-0.4.12.exe" button to download the 32-bit version.
