I have a Windows 8 laptop (64-BIT intel CPU); that I run Bitshares X on.  I downloaded and installed the 64-bit version of 4.12 BitsharesX but when I ran it, it would not work.  It gave me an error that I did not understand.  After that I uninstalled the 64-bit version of Bitshares X 4.12, I downloaded and installed the 32-bit version of Bitshares X.  After installation was completed, I ran the 32-bit version and it worked.  At this point, it is reindexing (31% complete as of this post).  It seems that the 32-bit version of BTSX 4.12 wallet for a Win8 computer works and the 64-bit version does not work.  That was the situation for me.

A behavior I noticed when using a chain server is that it says "Not connected" in the lower right, displays no other status message, but I can see my balance rising as it downloads/processes the chain. I can see why someone would think it's hung but it's actually working just fine.

I have noticed that too but when I have recently purchased BTSX from Bter and withdrew the BTSX to my new Bitshares X wallet, it will correctly update my BTSX balance in my account to reflect that I made a BTSX withdrawal from Bter to deposit in my wallet despite it saying "Not Connected" on the bottom of my wallet.  That part seems to be working and I have not had any issues with that.

It was when I saw Lottoshares DAC in the top 10 on coinmarketcap.com that got me interested in the .  It was on another thread on a different crypto forum that I realized that I had some LTS that I can claim since I held DOGE and BTC during the dates mentioned in that thread.  As a result, I was able to claim a total of 100 LTS and to move them into my LTS wallet.  After the LTS price on Bter dropped to the 5500-6800 satoshi range, I was able to add my LTS total by making my first few LTS on Bter when the price was between 5500-6800.  I have not played the dice and lotto games in the wallet and I do not plan to.  I plan to hold them and buy more on Bter if/when the price drops much further from 5000 satoshi/LTS.

Even though I had a basic idea and understanding of Bitshares X, this is an excellent explanation IMO.  It makes sense to me.  I feel that this visual explanation of Bitassets and Bitshares X will help people, such as myself, who are new to Bitshares X and the idea of Bitassets (BitUSD, BiyCNY, BitBTC, etc.).    Thank you for making the huge effort to break it down into easy to understand visuals and explanations.

My update:

I had already exported my wallet JSON file to a USB drive before upgrading to the 4.10 version.  I downloaded and installed version 4.10 and ran the file.  It got hung up on "reindexing.....Will take a few minutes".  I went to task manager to get out of it and I waited about 1-2 minutes to restart it.  I restarted version 4.10 and it worked fine and I was able to log in to my new 4.10 wallet.  When the wallet started syncing, I initially got worried when I saw a zero balance in my wallet but the wallet was synching starting from about when it said "Last Block was synced 42d (days) ago".  As of this post, it is now at "Last Block was synced 1d 15h 2m 10s ago" but I did experience a crash.  I went to task manager and get out of it and I restarted the wallet.  After I restarted the wallet, it resumed the syncing and it is almost finished.

I want to state the as the wallet was syncing, I was able to get my BTSX and BitUSD balances back to what they were before I upgraded my wallet and I did not have to import my JSON wallet at all.  My conclusion to all of this is this:  When the wallet begins to sync, it will show a zero balance but once it finishes syncing, then it should have your current balance.

I will repeat:  The wallet did finish syncing and it shows my exact BTSX and BitUSD balances and it also shows all of the transactions that I made since I got started in Bitshares X.  That is my report for the time being.

General Discussion / Re: Why is Bitsharesx dropping like a rock?

I have been buying BitUSD at the moment by using the profits that I made from each profitable trade that I executed at Bittrex.   During the last couple of days, I was day-trading an alt coin called Greenbacks(GB) on Bittrex and I was using the GB trading profits to buy BTSX on Bter.  after that, I withdrew the BTSX that I bought with the GB trading profits into my Bitshares X wallet and once those BTSX arrived in my wallet, I immediately bought BitUSD with them.  I wanted to do it this way since 1.) I made some profitable GB trades on Bittrex and 2.) I already had some BTSX in my wallet but I did not want to use the remaining BTSX (about 500+ BTSX left) in my wallet to buy BitUSD because I had already sold a lot of BTSX for a good profit during the run up to buy PTS and I wanted to keep the remaining 500+ BTSX that I bought when the price was under 2000 satoshi/BTSX.

EDIT: My BitUSD purchases on the BitSharesX wallet decentralized exchange went very well and I had no issues at all.  I am satisfied with it.

EDIT 2:   I bought my first small amount of BitUSD at 20.75 BTSX/USD level and then again much later when the level was at 24.97 BTSX/USD.

Is it still worth buying PTS (for future DACs, now that BTSX is over)?

The price is alltime low right now, so I guess there is no interest (for a reason).

But, is there a good reason to buy it now?

I have been buying PTS during the recent decline after the snapshot.  When BTSX was spiking up, I sold some of my BTSX for a profit and used the bitcoin proceeds from the BTSX sale to buy some PTS at a much lower price.  I think it is always good to buy some PTS especially after a decline right after the snapshot because owning PTS in your wallet means that you can get a piece of the action when future DAC snapshots come out.  Just my opinion.

That's how I think too but then I look at the fact that most of the people aren't interested in it right now, which indicates a very good (fundamental?) reason why so. On the other hand the trading reason (buy when no one is watching) is still here.

Yep.  That is when to buy PTS.  When no one is interested in it.  The mere fact that BTSX more than doubled in price from the average price that I have been buying in at got me to sell some of my BTSX for a profit.  I still have some BTSX left but I am going to hold on to my remaining BTSX since I already made money off of it.  Buying the PTS at this point has allowed me to average down my PTS cost basis.  It ended up being a win-win situation for me in my opinion.

I have also been earning some bitcoin on a weekly basis from the many bitcoin faucets online and that has allowed me to save up some bitcoin to buy more bitshares cryptos that I am interested in once have accumulated enough BTC to buy a decent amount .

I also wanted to mention that the PTS that I bought on Bter on 8-21-2014 and 8-22-2014, was not included on the most recent VOTE and DNS snapshot because those were bought after the 11:59 PM 8-21-2014 deadline.  Even though I bought some PTS on Bter at 8:43 PM EST on 8-21-2014, I missed the Snapshot deadline because that particular trade was finalized at 8:43 PM Bter time (China time) on 8-22-2014 according to my Bter trade history.  I knew that I missed the snapshot when I bought at that time because I got home from work at a very late hour, however, I am not that worried about it because I had some PTS stored in my own computer wallet that I bought on Bter well before the 8-21-2014 Snapshot deadline so I will still get a small piece of the VOTE and DNS Dacs.

During the BTSX run up in price, I had a large profit when I sold some of my BTSX on Bter and since PTS went down after the snapshot, it was a perfect time for me to sell some BTSX for a profit to buy some PTS after it went down about 27% from where it was before the 8-2--2014 snapshot (bought PTS at prices of 593,000 sat/PTS and 631,000 sat/PTS).  That worked out well for me and I am satisfied with those trades.  Being unable to withdraw the PTS from Bter at that time spooked me out and that is why I started this thread.

Thank you for the replies to my thread.  I feel much better now.  I will keep this in consideration when the next snapshot comes out.  :)

I'm in the same boat Cryptofreakoutlaw31. I don't have any PTS_S3 or anything on bter yet (I don't think anyone does?). I made the assumption that bter was going off the UTC timestamp for snapshotting. I still believe this to be true as per xeroc's comment that they didn't know whether or not they received the snapshot from bter until later. It wouldn't make much sense for them to base the snapshot off an actual different point in time than the true snapshot.

Yep.  I do not think that I will get anything from the PTS_S3 Bter snapshot.  I am pretty sure that I missed the snapshot when I bought my last PTS shares on Bter on Aug 21 and 22 (Bter/Chinazone time) but even if I miss it, that is fine because I have some PTS in my wallet that I had before 8-21-2014 so I still will get a piece of the VOTE and DNS Dacs but it will be based on the amount of PTS balance on my wallet on that snapshot date.

I now have more PTS shares in my personal computer wallet after recently buying more PTS on this recent dip in price and that should better position me to get a bigger share of future Snapshots when they come out.  If I have any more profitable alt cypto trades on Bittrex, then I will put some of that trading profit to buy more PTS on Bter before the next snapshot.

Update:

An hour ago, I was able to log into my Bter account and withdraw my PTS that I had purchased on Bter to my personal wallet on my computer.  Everything went smoothly and I did not have an issues.  The PTS are safe and sound in my wallet.  I feel better now.  Thank you for your help.

BitShares PTS / PTS withdrawal disabled at Bter
« on: August 22, 2014, 11:13:31 am »
Hello,

I am having trouble withdrawing PTS from Bter.  Here is what happened. I deposited some BTSX on Bter to sell it since it was going way up and wanted to buy some PTS since it was going down.  I sold some BTSX when it hit 4149 satoshi/BTSX and sold more BTSX again earlier this morning when it hit 5200+ satoshi/BTSX for a profit.  I used the proceeds to buy PTS since it dropped after the snapshot.  I wanted to withdraw the PTS that bought on Bter in order to put it in my wallet but when I tried to withdraw my PTS from Bter, I got a message saying "PTS withdrawal disabled".

I wanted to know if anyone had any problems withdrawing PTS from Bter and if anyone knew when PTS withdrawal will be back up.  I wonder if it had anything to do with the recent snapshot.  I had not had any trouble when I withdraw some PTS that I bought on 8-20-2014 but did today.  Thank you.

General Discussion / Re: How & When to Backup Your Wallet
« on: July 31, 2014, 12:12:08 pm »
I have a question to make sure that I understand when I am backing up my Bitshares:

I created two accounts.   The first account that I created was the one that I registered,  The second account that I created is the one that I did not register but I transferred a bulk of my BTSX (bought from Bter) from my registered to the second unregistered account.  I backed up the 2nd unregistered account to another drive.  I did not backup the 1st account that I registered since I already registered it before seeing this thread.

Did I do this right in backing up the 2nd unregistered BTSX account that I transferred most of my BTSX to?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sent.  Its possible that the error was on the wallet side.  There is a very very stupid person that keeps registering names from within the web wallet.  This may have been leading to instability for you.

I did get the BTSX that you sent me and I was able to register.  I was also able to withdraw my BTSX from Bter earlier this morning and I paid you back the BTSX you sent me.  I sent the BTSX back to the account name that was used to send the initial BTSX to me.  Thank you for your help and getting me started.  :)
