Stakeholder Proposals / [Feedback] 100% Delegate Proposal for EZBitShares!
« on: February 08, 2015, 05:52:34 am »
Good Day!!

This is an informal request for feedback on a potential delegate proposal we are working on introducing. We have not created the delegate yet, this is just really looking for your feedback to make sure this opportunity aligns well with what the community would like to see.. and of coarse vote for! :D

As many of you already know, we run an underground nuclear bunker data center.

We have been in the business of providing virtual and dedicated servers for several years now. Primarily with WHM/Cpanel management, since we are a NOC Partner with Cpanel.

During that time we developed a suite of tools called EZServerTools. These were designed to be STUPID EASY tools to enhance the performance of your Cpanel server, and gain access to easier reporting etc. It is quite literally an ON and OFF switch to install it. After that all the controls are available to you via the web interface. Some of our modules include:

EZNginx = Module that installs Nginx to Cpanel in a reverse proxy to Apache to boost performance and reduce load
EZPowerDNS = First and only module to enable use of PowerDNS, the most powerful and fastest DNS currently available you can now use in WHM/Cpanel
EZMysqlTuner = Automatically calculate the best database settings for your servers useage and continually optimize.
EZUptime = Uptime monitoring from your server that tracks your accounts and alerts you to any downtime complete with a history chart
and several others that are still in development but equally or more awesome. :)

This has been kept in closed beta while we developed it. Which is why you never heard of it till just now. :)

However, our customers have been using this suit successfully for some time. We have debugged it quite extensively and have a smooth updating process. We are ready for public beta essentially. The tool focuses on WHM/Cpanel now, but we put extensive work into making it with the ideal in mind of crossing over to other panels like Plesk and WebMin and other popular ones, not to mention vanilla servers as well. This would provide a basic web interface to install all these tools which would make it easier for administration. Not just easy though.. EZ! :D

With the public beta all these tools would be available FREE!

What we are considering is creating a 100% delegate that is dedicated to subsidizing the development of one more module, EZBitShares.

Our current plan with EZBitShares is to create a STUPID EASY installation of the web-wallet for the administrator of the server to use from his server. Within it, there will be configuration options to have the web-wallet be accessible to his end customers within Cpanel.

This will introduce their customers to BitShares, and potentially become a method for host providers to start accepting BTS or BitUSD from their customers for hosting.

Our marketing plans for the suite is to feature each module with its own website. When our EZServerTools suite is installed, people then have access to all the modules and can turn them on and off as they wish. So someone who maybe looking for an Nginx solution for his WHM/Cpanel server might install our app after finding it at the EZNginx website, and then discover the other modules, along with EZBitShares. This will likely lead to another new user in the least.

Likewise in a similar fashion there will be a site called EZBitShares.com which will also act as another funnel to bring new users to use the tool.

We are considering this in light of development updates and features we know are coming down the line to make processes smoother. If we don't see those processes happening in good time, then we may focus on building out our own wallet to simplify and reduce barriers to entry.

This work will inevitably lead to plugin development with popular billing solutions like WHMCS and Hostbillapp.

Further down the road, we want to introduce another module which would enable the server administrator to STUPID EASY install a delegate for BitShares and possibly other DACs to his server. This will require a lot more work and will be further down the road because it will mean creating a whole new repo dedicated to Red Hat Linux distro servers. Something that currently doesn't exist, but with our work, could. Again though.. FUUURTHER down the road. What I am talking about here so far is not going to happen overnight, so lets not get ahead of ourselves.

The 100% delegate would be run by the same team doing all this development to bring Bitshares into this segment of the hosting server population, which is by far the #1 hosting control panel used around the world today. It would be run from the bunker.

My question to you is simple... what do you think? Any suggestions? Got your vote? Terrible trash it? Love us just the way we are?

Just looking for feedback and your thoughts... this is NOT an offer :) .. We are just talking about a possible offer like this!

Looking forward to your replies!

Jonathan

Hey hey hey!

Look not all Delegates are great.. but SOME ARE!

Some are just soooo cool, it just doesn't seem right to just click 'vote' for them.

You wish you could sit there for a whole hour and just click VOTE for them because they simply rock!

There must be a better way!

There is! It's the latest and greatest User Issued Asset Called DelegateTip!

Now when you heart your favorite delegate, you can send them a TIP!

DelegateTips are as good as GOLD!

Yes folks GOLD! Because nothing is more golden than a sincere thank you!

Perhaps one day we can look at how often a delegate gets tipped and see how much the community really appreciates them.

DelegateTips could help recognize the most active delegates based on users show of thanks and appreciation so that they can be nominated for special committees.

Maybe even help others to decide on who to vote for.

Delegates should want to hold DelegateTips for these reasons alone, but also just because it's cool!

The possibilities are endless.

BUT WAIT THERES MORE!

OMG DATASECURITYNODE.. NO WAY!!

HAHA... YES WAY!

For a limited time only, you can get your DelegateTips for FREE!

All you have to do is post your wallet address in this thread, and then say just ONE GOOD THING about something a delegate has done for BitShares that made your heart flutter like a 12 year old girl in love with Justin Bieber. Ok.. maybe not that.. but you get the idea.

So to recap:

  • Post your Wallet Name
  • Say one good thing about a delegate

THAT'S IT!

And you will get 1010 DelegateTip!! (101 delegates X 10 DelegateTip)

OMG I AM LOSING MY MIND THATS SO AWESOME!

YEAH I KNOW!

Ok so lets all show our appreciation for all the hard work our Delegates are doing and give em a tip!

Remember folks.. People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care.

Show how much you care.. with DelegateTips!!  +5%

Having Fun with Bitshares,

Jonathan

PS: Give me some time to issue your DelegateTip. I will likely be doing it in batches every so often each day. If you feel inspired after you get them to share, tell us who you sent your DelegateTip to and why so we can all be inspired!

General Discussion / UIA in other Exchanges?
« on: February 06, 2015, 02:03:03 pm »
Just thinking about bitGold and bitUSD etc all being out on BTER which is another public exchange.

I am curious now.. would a UIA be included in those exchanges as well?

If not, is it possible for a UIA to get listed in other Exchanges?

Would we be limited to only exchanges that include BTS in their exchange?

General Discussion / UIA Clawback Question
« on: February 04, 2015, 01:13:34 am »
Just want to understand something about UIAs.

I understand the issuer has the power to take back the UIA to the end user that receives it.

After that though, the holder then goes to the BTS market and sells it to someone else who buys it.

Does the issuer of the UIA still have the capability to know who that new holder is and potentially clawback the asset?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Soooo made some mistakes setting up a delegate for the company out of lack of documentation. I didn't think anything of our naming choice at the time because I saw dev.nathanhourt.com in the top 101.

I attempted to register a parent wallet account like subdomain.domain.com (real name not shown, this is just an example) with the intent of creating a full RDNS and webpage featuring everything about our delegate position and maybe even link to it for others to see in other forums and learn about bitshares.. .but anyways I attempted to register the name in linux to the network after successfully transferring 10BTS to it from another account and got this:

subdomain.domain.com (unlocked) >>> wallet_account_register subdomain.domain.com subdomain.domain.com
Code: [Select]
20039 unauthorized_child_account: unauthorized child account
Parent account must authorize registration of this child account!
    {"child_account":"subdomain.domain.com"}
    th_a  wallet.cpp:3036 register_account

    {"account_to_register":"subdomain.domain.com","public_data":null,"pay_with_account_name":"subdomain.domain.com","delegate_pay_rate":255}
    th_a  wallet.cpp:3068 register_account

    {"account_name":"subdomain.domain.com","data":null}
    th_a  wallet_api.cpp:1178 wallet_account_register

    {}
    th_a  common_api_client.cpp:4592 wallet_account_register

    {"command":"wallet_account_register"}
    th_a  cli.cpp:629 execute_command

I realize I didn't include the delegate command in this.. I essentially wanted to just get the wallet setup along with the server configuration prior to getting into the delegate pool.

After this happened I start digging into forums and find this reference to a naming convention that this guy found out the hard way too https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11904.0

I went to the wiki on Best Practices on Account Names only to find it entirely blank.. why I have no idea: http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/Best_Practices/AccountNames

dev.nathanhourt.com is an inside developer that I couldn't find any presence on the forum so I couldn't PM him for the secret sauce to this. So I had to ask the question here:

How on earth did he manage to create this naming convention when the rules state that this would be essentially impossible allowing only one 'subaccount' . in the mix.

I didn't want to do a parent and sub initially.. but even if I was going to, I still have no way to do domain.com .. yet somehow dev.nathanhourt.com has managed too.

Can someone on the inside tell me exactly how this can be accomplished? I REALLY would prefer to have a complete hostname address that I can have advertised as my delegate address so that anybody can find my corresponding data/story/contact anywhere.

I am sure I will get some reply with a link to something obvious that I missed.. but at this point that's a chance I am willing to risk to figure out what to do next to accomplish this.

Thanks so much!

General Discussion / [BUNKER NEWS] -- It's BitAwesome!
« on: January 31, 2015, 06:43:56 am »
Good Day All!

I am in the Beyond Bitcoin mumble sessions and often times I find myself pretty much every week having some kind of update to share about the bunker.

For those who don't know about it, we are located in a 64,000 sq/ft cold war nuclear bunker located in Canada that was designed for government continuity in the event of chemical, biological, or nuclear fallout. 350 people could survive there and enable the Canadian government to continue. We are the only remaining bunker of the 6 that were built across the country, and it is privately owned now by us.

A few weeks ago, we had the Premier of Nova Scotia Stephen McNeil come to the bunker along with our MLA and District Counselor. I gave them a tour and discussed some of our future plans. They enjoyed it a great deal and love all we are doing with it.

For all our US neighbours, the Premier would be the equivalent to your US State Senator showing up at your door. Pretty awesome!

Just the other day a news story got printed in the paper about the whole thing, you can see it here:

http://www.trurodaily.com/Colchester-Weekly/2015-01-28/article-4023511/Debert-Notebook%3A-Revisiting-history%2C-sharing-plans-for-Deberts-Diefenbunker/1

If you like to see more pictures of the tour you can see it posted on our facebook page (Don't forget to LIKE!  ;D): https://www.facebook.com/Debert.Diefenbunker/posts/271101973060534

As we move forward with more of our data center operations, I am considering creating a delegate that would benefit from being located at the bunker. Of all the delegates, we would be impervious to man made or natural disasters.  ;) I have some other ideas too coming together from discussions with others, but will share those another time.

Anyways.. thought I would start this to keep everyone posted on our progress. We are also mining from the bunker pointing a great deal of our resources here: http://pool.minebitshares.com/ << highly recommend all you miners out there to join in if you want to realize better profits on your mining.

Feel free to ask any questions you like about the place. I have worked on it for a few years now and still continue to discover new things about it. You can see pretty much our entire journey on our facebook page. I am really looking forward to combing the work we do at the bunker with bitshares and work with the community to help support great projects.

Have a great day!

General Discussion / I Am Going On the Radio and Will Mention BitShares
« on: January 05, 2015, 05:20:42 pm »
I was invited to comment on a new copyright law going into effect against ISPs in Canada this year.

I have commented already on how blockchain tech could solve the issues surrounding this.

I am going to be on the radio at about 1pm EST if anybody is interested in catching the show.

http://www.news957.com/category/sheldon-macleod-show/

You can listen to it live on the Internet.

Another media plug for bitshares.. so thought everyone might be interested.

So I am setting up a delegate.. I get to setting the pay rate.. accidental cut and paste a cmd that included a lower pay rate than what I wanted set.

How can I update my registration to a higher payrate?

Brand new delegate.. hasn't been voted on or generated blocks or anything.

Should be able to adjust it.. especially when fat finger fudges happen.

Any more advance users or admins have a cmd that will allow this?

I tried wallet_account_update_registration but it just yelled back at me I cannot increase my payrate.

Hate to lose this awesome name because of a typo... help?

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan

Technical Support / Import Existing Delegate Into New Server
« on: August 28, 2014, 06:22:16 pm »
Good Day

By request I am copying this question here in the hopes that it can be answered and help many others who maybe challenged at accomplishing the same.

I went about setting up my own in ubuntu delegate server.. no problem on the server side.. running on a dime.

The CLI has me lost however... particularly on one point.

I have an existing delegate account that was created using the Windows client interface.. now I want to get that delegate account imported into the new ubuntu delegate server.. but for the life of me I haven't been able to figure out what or where or how to port it in with the CLI.

Do you have any tips or suggestions?

I haven't been able to find the documentation to make this work either.. all the documents float around creating a new one.. and even some of those don't match with how current commands work.

Thanks again!

Technical Support / Nuclear Bunker Data Center Introduction
« on: August 18, 2014, 04:50:38 am »
Hello,

I have already invested in BTS-PST and BTSX and am excited about this technology and how it can change the world.  +5%

I am in the process of bringing a second life to a 64,000 sq/ft underground nuclear bunker that was designed to keep 350 government officials safe and sound in the event of a chemical, biological, or nuclear fallout.

This facility used to provide secure communication storage for NATO for nearly two decades on the data side.

The portion of the facility that did this has all the features of a data center, which is what we are in the process of getting production ready. New backup power and fiber lines have been installed and the facility already features water cooling from a giant aquifer that it has operated from for fifty years.

Because the building has so many different elements, we are taking a multi-faceted approach to filling the space. What used to be CBC Radio studio, we now have operating as a media recording studio. We are converting a portion of what was bedrooms into offices to employ many techs and service people to for the data center operation.

The rest of the space we need to fix up and update to facilitate secure meeting space. Once you enter the bunker all communications to the outside world are cut off. No satellite or thermal will register. No worries about spies or any listening devices inside or out. With a private airport right beside our location complete with customs clearance, it's the ideal location for private meetings where data security is a must.

Now here is where the fork in the road comes.

We are about to start going about getting traditional financing for the improvements to the facility, and additional resources for our network infrastructure phase one that will include the introduction of a new cloud storage service. Being located in Canada, and in an underground secured bunker, we have an edge in security and privacy. Our geographic location in Canada also places us directly between New York, NY, and London England. Making it a great prospect for DR.

I have only recently learned about bitshares... and am so intrigued by it, I would like to consider potentially create a DAC (or DACs) of some kind that would be associated with the bunkers operations and utilize bitshares as the single only funding source that propels it forward. This would make for an amazing business case, and put us in the forward thinking zone that I always strive for.

Maybe once we are finished even host the next bitshare conference. I am putting this all out there in the hopes of garnering some ideas perhaps from some more experienced. I believe an entire data center getting behind bitshare in such a way could really send waves out into the world to show its arrived. The 'bunker bump' always gives a boost.. not quite as powerful as the 'cobert bump', but still pretty good.

Maybe this isn't ideal? Maybe bitshares is too early for this?

What do you think? Would a DAC of some kind getting behind a bunker data center in Canada be something you want to get behind?

So there is my first post. Certainly won't be the last.. but rather than dipping my toe like I normally do in forums, I jumped in with all this info to see if my impressions of what is going on here are right.

Looking forward to connecting with you all.

Have a great day!
