Stakeholder Proposals / 100% vs. 50% vs. 3% delegates
« on: February 16, 2015, 10:39:20 pm »
I am curious to understand why we seem to have these extremes of all 100% delegates or 3% which is next to nada.

What about 50% delegates?

If a project to support bitshares bid for delegate vote and the budget really only required 50%.. would you prefer to see that.. or would you prefer to see them put in the 59k+ bts to be a 100%er?

Scanning over the 101 I really only see these extremes of 100 to 3.. is there some reason I don't know of why there are no in-betweens?

PS: Proud to now be a Sr. Member.. seeing as this is my 200th post.  :D

“I think Bitcoin will play a role very similar to digital gold, and other cryptocurrencies will become perhaps more suitable as everyday means of exchange,” he said. “And eventually we'll find a role for governments and bankers to be involved in this, because they are going to adapt.”

Wouldn't it be something if we hear of an announcement that Greece launches it's own Bitshares DAC to replace it's currency. :) Seems to be on the right track.

I think it's the lack of on and off ramps that seems to be the pressing point. It was only a few weeks ago that we even just got Shapeshift in place and that is only a beginning.

I maybe wrong on this point.. but thats what it seems like to me. Besides this point though.. the development of everything is so recent.. I don't think people have caught up to it yet in terms of seeing what can be done. As you see more practical applications like Cryptoheadge pop up to make people aware of what is possible then people might get an 'ah ha' moment and realize they can do it themselves. :)

Just got to give people some time I guess..people don't change their ways as easily as a version update. :)

General Discussion / Re: Do you want stake in DPoS altChains?

Also regarding the poll.. it's kinda fuzzy exactly what is being voted on. Pun intended  ;D

Maybe someone smarter than I can clarify.
has nothing to do with being smarter than you! What I'm asking is if our community should start considering the utilization of our assets to incentive at chains to exist and sharedrop on us before they start doing it on their own without sharedropping.

:)

Ok then.. I guess to aswer that question it really depends on the cost to benefit ratio as I asked about before. There is a real expense attached to everything, and I couldn't make an informed decision without understanding that element to determine just how much value is being brought by that particular line of action. It might reveal another way to be more efficient.. like the targets email list so to speak that arhag mentioned in another thread the other day where we reward those with a real interest instead of creating a giant pump and dump event with a whole chain sharedrop.

By doing that the cost of it all goes towards people who have a real interest and will more likely hold than dump.. and it is equally showing a good faith move.

This suggestion was not in your options though... so I couldn't vote on it. :)

I think I need it explained a bit more.

If I am understanding this right.. you want to build a wrapper into the GUI of bitshares to connect to all the centralized exchanges without any real connection with the BTS network?

no.
If I'm a business who wants to issue 10 IOUs inside BTS , what will I get now ? Let my 10 IOUs stay on the same place where everybody's IOUs are there .? That's like selling several fancy car on the street , it's nothing like a place to do my big business in .

Business with multiple assets need a place to hold all the asset trading pairs , just like a shop with only goods from the owner .

oK.. getting closer.. so you are suggesting a system of IOU issued from "asset folder" that then compares all the other exchanges pairs?

Sorry.. I think something is getting lost in translation... still don't fully understand how what you are proposing would technically work.

If we are going to raise millions for something.. it's not going to be to buy out someone else right now.. that money is better spent in the development of our own ecosystem. I use the word 'development' in the largest sense of the word too.. from marketing to coding.

How about betting on your own horse that has a running chance instead of wanting to put your money behind the one with the broken leg?

Love the enthusiasm about the opportunity..  +5% I just think it's misdirected.. our enthusiasm should be getting translated into well targeted messaging and invites to the rest of the world welcoming them to decentralization.

MethodX was right.. this is not practical in the least.

The only value you have stated that can be harness from bter is the user base.

I don't know when was the last time you logged into your wallet, but it says right smack dab in the center of the screen. "The Worlds First Decentralized Exchange".

We need gateways.. and we need users.. we don't need a broken centralized exchange to put on the books.

I agree though.. from crisis comes victory. A well targeted marketing campaign focused on BTER users combined with proposals for gateways would be a swift step towards capturing the user base. Some kind of reward to BTER users for joining or the like could be enough to get the 2.5% out of their userbase that moves from the old way to us. The rest are likely to just setup camp elsewhere.

Just to put a practical spin on your proposal.. you are talked about crowdfunding a security.. something with a promise of a profit loss. You will need close to $50k to register your securities with the various bodies around the world in order to have people get involved. It is otherwise illegal to sell that sort of thing no matter where you are in the world. Screw them? Ok.. and what are you going to do when you need to wire money or have bank accounts in those respective countries that bodies like the SEC and IRS when you are on a blacklist?

I like the enthusiasm.. I like the go get'em attitude.. and I like your rally cry.. it just needs to be tempered with a little more practical world experience and wisdom. I'm not suggesting my way is the only way btw.. it's just the most obvious to me for the sake of answering this thread. :)

 +5% out of the box.

What are the cost to benefit ratios?

There are a lot of scenarios and assumptions but no cost factoring into each option. That ultimately is going to have a rather large impact on how any of those scenarios may or may not happen.

How much do each of those scenarios cost and who pays the tab on it?

2323
I think arhag made a point about sharedropping earlier in another thread that makes sense.

Drop on those that show interest in your offer, not just an entire chain. Odds are good that you will end up with a ton of dumpers and a handful of holders and maybe even less participants. Sharedropping based on an entire blockchain seems highly inefficient in it's goal otherwise.

Be good to individuals from other blockchains that are good to you.

People too often state that things should be done by someone .. wake up guys .. bitshares is decentralized .. so do it yourself .. once s.o. started plenty of people will join ..

I agree  +5%

Due to BTER being hacked, #ShapeShift will not be able to do NBT, BTS or BitUSD transactions at this time. Stay tuned for updates.

That explains that at least.
