Community Marketing Newsletter Dec 02

MeTHoDx writes "We got off to an explosive start. Dozens of bright community members stepped up in a big way. I'd say December or January will be known as "the month of bitShares".

Hired by the Blockchain

The community marketing team requested assistance in writing press releases, Matt608 developed a press release about being hired by the blockchain. MeTHoDx offered assistance spreading the press release to a test market below.

http://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/2nouij/make_2500_a_month_being_one_of_the_first_persons/

If you haven't reviewed the Reddit link yet, head that way asap.  Our upcoming steps involve pushing the press release to like minded Reddits, develop a Bitcoin friendly video introducing the concept of being hired by the blockchain, posting to both Bitcointalk and /r/Bitcoin, spreading the word through Muderistic's PR contacts and finally contacting writers from our Bitcoin writers list that's updated daily.

Don't Cry For Me Argentina

The community marketing team is making significant progress in organizing a penetration campaign in Argentina. Expect updates in the upcoming newsletter.

CME Virtual Conference

Thanks to the generous donations from the community, Bitshares will be represented by Robrigo and Bitmarket  at the CME Virtual Conference 11 AM EST  Friday December 5th. Robrigo is doing a great job working with other members of the community marketing team to make sure we have everything from banners to videos prepared.

It's never too early to start planning to attend a Bitcoin conference.  If you see an event that's local to your location and you're willing to attend, reply in this thread.

Beyond Bitcoin (repeat)

If you haven't been keeping up with Beyond Bitcoin, you're missing out on an important piece of our community. Beyond Bitcoin hosts a series of live Mumble sessions with different members that shape the Bitshares ecosystem.

One of my favorite Mumble sessions is every Friday at 11pm EST. Bytemaster spends an hour updating us on progress and answering questions. This is your opportunity to get directly involved with the development of Bitshares.

IRC

If you would like to talk to other Bitshare's enthusiasts in a live environment, head on over to the Bitshares IRC channels.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=7447.0

He's working with the community marketing team to launch another campaign focused on bitAssets. Cass and MeTHoDx continue to provide ongoing support.

Massive Lists (repeat)

In anticipation for the big 1.0 client push, the community marketing team is developing lists of contact information for each of the upcoming markets.

VCs that have invested in Bitcoin
Writers that have written about Bitcoin
Crypto Twitter addresses
Meetup groups that will filter into webcasts and AMAs
Skillsets

Value Proposition of Bitshares I and II

Delulo has been busy helping developing guides on Bitshares technology for the average joe.

"Article series: The value proposition of BitShares.
Two articles: Part I - BitShares Core Technology, Part II - BitAssets

I wrote them both for the Bitshares blog back in September, Part I is already published: http://bitshares.org/the-value-proposition-of-bitsharesx-part-i-core-technology/

The idea was to explain where the value proposition of BitShares lies as simple as possible but without loosing too much precision. Actually I was tired of explaining it over and over again to people so I always sent them these articles which contain all my good arguments why BitShares has value. [I might have to update Part I with paid delegates]

I also have written Part II back then but didn't publish it because the market mechanics for BitAssets kept changing. Now I rewrote the "how BitAssets work" Part over the weekend.

I would like your feedback on it. I won't rewrite the whole thing :) But if you see mistakes or if you think something is missing then let's add it. Then we can put it on the blog or push it to whatever channel you can come up with. So here it is: "

Reddit Push with BitUSD

"I want to set up a reddit "blitz" this Thursday in the following subreddits:

/r/Libertarian
/r/Cryptocurrency
/r/ronpaul
/r/austrian_economics
/r/Anarcho_Capitalism
/r/??? (ideas?)

We will set up an AMA style faucet similar to this. Our "pitch" will be something like: "It's official: bitUSD and bitGOLD work: come get 1 bitUSD or bitGOLD and see for yourself that stable p2p money is a reality."

http://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/2ftfti/bitshares_x_ama_trade_btc_derivatives_on_the/  "

The date might be pushed to next Monday, we will keep everyone up to date.  Thanks to everyone that's been working with MeTHoDx to make it happen.

Marketing Delegates

Each newsletter, I will highlight a delegate proposal from one of our community marketing participants. Today I'd like to draw your attention to Matt608.

Crypto for Bloggers

After developing a successful press release for the hired by the blockchain initiative, Matt608 is working on his next major piece.

"I'm starting work on a 3 part article series on how bloggers can leverage cryptocurrencies

How to leverage cryptocurrencies to increase blog income
How to issue your own blog coin (mini-IPO on Bitshares)
Marketing your blog coin - Guide to Marketing Cryptocurrencys "

Community Marketing Newsletter Nov 25

Success on Nullstreet

On November 19, 2014, 11:34:25 PM, MeTHodX made a post about creating an invite only marketing forum that would focus all our attention on executing marketing goals.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11532.0

In less than 5 days, the forum already has 613 posts, 80 conversations and 84 total members.  In the short time the forum has been live, we've made big steps in social media to advertising. We have members of the official marketing team in the forums to also help with projects and verify we're not overlapping.

 Beyond Bitcoin

If you haven't been keeping up with Beyond Bitcoin, you're missing out on an important piece of our community.  Beyond Bitcoin hosts a series of live Mumble sessions with different members that shape the Bitshares ecosystem.

One of my favorite Mumble sessions is every Friday at 11pm EST.  Bytemaster spends an hour updating us on progress and answering questions. This is your opportunity to get directly involved with the development of Bitshares.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?board=58.0
https://twitter.com/Beyond_Bitcoin

Bitmarket's Bitshares Book

Bitmarket is writing a book about Bitshares.  He's not new to the world of writing, he's produced a book for Bitcoin in early 2013.

http://www.amazon.com/Bitcoin-Revolution-Ending-Tyranny-Profit-ebook/dp/B00CAX5OZQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416814282&sr=8-1&keywords=bitcoin+revolution

Bitmarket is at the proof reading stage of his book. Donkeypong is also not a stranger to the writing process. Donkeypong has written 2 books that found publishers and  about ten shorter length e-books for the Amazon Kindle platform.

Bitmarket and Donkeypong have been bouncing ideas off each other in the forum.

Twitter

You might have noticed the official Bitshares twitter is kicking out more frequent updates. The community marketing team is sending tweets their way throughout the day to help build our following.  The community marketing team also listed their twitter accounts in a thread to help coordinate marketing efforts.

Our next step will be a new thunderclap campaign.

https://www.thunderclap.it/about

Voting

There's still some confusion on how to use the voting option. MeTHoDx created a tutorial.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11663.0

MeTHoDx is campaigning for a  100% delegate.  I recommend reading over his platform and giving your support.   Look what he's helped put together in less than 5 days, imagine what we could do with the right funding.

Toast recently posted the process will be improved in the next release.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11689.msg153924#msg153924

CME Virtual Conference

Robrigo informed us about the CME Virtual Conference.

http://www.cryptomoneyexpo.com/expos/inv2

If a BitShares pitch is submitted by @bitmarket then the cost to register goes from 2 BTC down to 1 BTC.

 Lists

In anticipation for the big 1.0 client push, the community marketing team is developing lists of contact information for each of the upcoming markets.

VCs that have invested in Bitcoin
Writers that have written about Bitcoin
Crypto Twitter addresses
Meetup groups that will filter into webcasts and AMAs
Skillsets
Podcasts

The lists are daily tasks that continue to grow a little more each day.

Referral Program

There's been an active discussion of different ways to present a referral program with Bitshares. Valzav has an idea on how to accomplish the referral program without turning off TITAN or requiring a new DAC.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11356

SEO

matt608 has volunteered to do a deep dive into our current SEO. He laid out a detailed outline for offsite and onsite optimization along with steps on how to execute the plan. Matt608 has prior professional experience with SEO, Cass has volunteered to share GA access.

OpenBazaar

The upcoming changes in 0.4.25 takes us closer to being able to work with OpenBazaar. Toast mentioned OB is asking us to submit a pull request. Toast also stated that "We need a solid python *web* dev who doesn't necessarily need tons of blockchain tech / c++ experience."

MeTHoDx plans on reaching out to his OB contacts.

Reddit Tipping Ads

Toast offered his assistance if someone is willing to attempt to create the Twitter and Reddit bot.

https://github.com/vindimy/altcointip/releases

MeTHoDx proposed the idea and Riverhead has volunteered to work on it next week.

Coinmarketcap Ads

On November 22, MeTHoDx reached out to CoinMarketCap to get information about their banner programs. Marketing community members have been offering input and resources ranging from the design to the actual copy.

There's also discussion about how to fund it. OnceUponaTime is offering to help fund the initiative.

Nonuser bitUSD

Bitmarket "When paypal started you could send money to an email address even that email address was not a user of paypal. Paypal would harrass them and say... you have money... come get it. Is there a way for a third party to offer this? The third party would also need to return the funds if the user never showed up? "

Bitmarket "I am not sure it is technically possible."

Valzav "Technically in order to send funds to email address, you need to have a faucet/proof of person website that let's users to login via OAuth using their Twitter, Facebook or G+ accounts and is able to generate coupons.

So in order to send e.g. 10 BitUSD to an email, you need to create your faucet account, fund it with 10 BitUSD, generate 10 BitUSD coupon and send it to email address, the receiver would need to login to faucet and redeem coupon, this scheme is not much different from this referral program"

 Bitshares Videos

Bitmarket "Hey guys, I forgot to mention... this is the first draft script for the animated video on the What is bitUSD page. people will arrive here after clicking on a "What is bitUSD" link on a merchant checkout page offering them discounts to pay in bitUSD"

Long term Plans for the Wiki

Toast "I control wiki.bitshares.org  currently but I'm not taking care of it."

Gamey "It is one of those things though that anyone can work on. If everyone agreed to work on it for 30 minutes an hour it could be improved greatly. If we could get a list of volunteers then we have an idea of how many people interested. then chop it up into sections. Xeroc has actually been fixing it up a lot lately.

If anyone wants an account get in touch with me.."

Whitepapers

The need for whitepapers was recently brought back up after someone posted a link to Ripple's papers archive.

https://forum.ripple.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4301

Bytemaster posted a draft of BitShares Market Pegged Assets by Agent86.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11674.msg153808#msg153808

Cass, with help from community marketing, outlined a list of whitepapers that would eventually be needed.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11674.msg153735#msg153735

Chinese Marketing

We've been reaching out to the Chinese community to better understand their challenges and develop ways to better communicate across initiatives. Thank you to cn-members for helping us bridge the gap. In the coming weeks, you should see this communication continue to improve.

Welcome Back

The welcome back push will begin closer to the Imagine contest.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11530.msg151923#msg151923

Scoop.it

Graffenwalder "But scoop.it , allows you to make a magazine like page, and allows embedding of YouTube and soundcloud. So integrating the latest interviews and mumble sessions are no problem.

The real value of this is SEO, for scooped items. And also as time goes on, it will become a sort of archive, wich allows for easy searching of old articles, video's...."

One Initiative and Marketing Plan

MeTHoDx requested everyone in the community marketing board to brainstorm on all areas that affect our marketing. Once a few days of posts were made, he made a followup request for each member to outline 1 project they want to focus on in the 1 Initiative thread.

Seoul December 12-13, 2014 Bitcoin Conference

We can't have our core marketing and development team at every Bitcoin Conference.  We should make every attempt to have a presence at each one. Robrigo is reaching out to ClayOP who has already showed interest in promoting Korean adoption of Bitshares. The community marketing team will do our best to reach out to the community before each Bitcoin Conference.

http://insidebitcoins.com/seoul

IRC

Come join the discussion over at our IRC channels:

As we continue to expand our community marketing efforts, being able to quickly organize through tools such as IRC will become critical.

General Discussion / Toast - Openbazaar - Question about your current work
« on: November 20, 2014, 10:59:30 pm »
The grassroots is working hard to start organizing.  Based on your current work with Bitcoin API and multisig, would this make it possible to fund another developer to help get bitUSD into OpenBazaar?   I know BM talked about bigger markets to tackle, however, there's a growing interest to also tackle the crypto realm from a grassroots perspective.

25
General Discussion / Grassroots Initiative Marketing Focus Welcome Home
« on: November 19, 2014, 10:26:11 pm »
I've been talking with Gamey and Brian quite a bit over the last few months on grassroots initiatives. One of the more exciting initiatives that I'm developing is a 'Welcome Home' push to bring back those forum members that might have left us, investors that might have moved to different projects and crypto community members that might have dismissed us a little too quick.  Brian and Susan are offering support in these upcoming initiatives, I wanted to give you a glimpse on the approach.  I'm posting this in the general board because it's going to take work from different segments of our forum to make it work.

"-Welcome Back - The Real Low Hanging Fruit-

We have over 7801 members signed up on the forum. We have even more in the Bitcointalk thread that have disappeared into the crypto space. They might have been short time holders, they might have found something more interesting or maybe frustrated at all the changes. Regardless, this should be a top priority. Let's bring them home, it's all hands on deck.

Once the website is up and the community agrees the content is adequate, this is the perfect time to bring them back. We could have them view the website, review the latest mumble sessions and even have a board that has a few posts summarizing what's in development.

We could offer prizes as an incentive. I don't have the details figured out, however, I'm up to donating 10,000 BTS. So how do we contact these people?

- Email sent out to our existing forum members
- Email sent out to newsletter signups (mini newsletter?)
- Post on Bitcointalk, Reddit
- Twitter announcement

"

Once we start getting people flowing back into the forum, we'll move to our next phase with the Twitter push.  Thanks to Gamey's help, I will be working with Susan to feed her updates throughout the day for both FB and Twitter.  The topics will range from mini interviews with community members to important updates within the community. Grassroots marketing can't just be about the guys that hang in the marketing board, we need all your talent.

Please submit any type of ideas/feedback!

What is our elevator pitch to different markets?  Here's a resend post from Counterparty from their AMA.

Counterparty is a trustless settlement engine. It aims to disintermediate stock and commodities exchanges, prediction markets, derivatives, options and futures. Counterparty puts Wall Street on the blockchain without the middleman.

As soon more progress is made, I will coordinate with others in this thread to help building momentum.  Once the official push starts, I want to make sure we come out swinging in the grassroots.

UPDATE

I'm recommending a web wallet, not integration into the official client.

Stan, when you started talking about checking and savings account, that caught my attention. I've been beating my head against the wall trying to figure a way to pull in the moderate to casual Bitcoin user. You nailed it with BitUSD being the checking account and BTS is the savings account.  I would go one step further:

1. Forget 'Litecoin the Silver to Bitcoin’s Gold' the comparison should be 'BitUSD is the checking to Bitcoins investments' .  If you didn't like the breakdown, 'BitUSD is the checking to Bitcoin's savings'.
2. This gives a very easy message to the moderate to the casual Bitcoin holder.
3. The wallet allows for BTS, BitUSD and Bitcoin
4. The wallet is designed with few options and very user friendly

This allows us access to the different Bitcoin circles because it adds benefit to Bitcoin. The wallet hitting the mass market is what we're doing for Bitcoin.  The wallet is targeted away from cryptonerds and more for the causal user.  Litecoin plays little brother to Bitcoin with the silver references.  In our scenario, bitUSD takes it place as not a director competitor but something that is strong on its own and enhances Bitcoin.

If you want the investment and associated volatility, you'll work out of that tab of the wallet.  If you want to make day to day transaction, you will pull from your checking tab.

I know we're going after other markets such as high risk merchants, however, I feel there's value in aligning ourselves along giants to help our exposure and media blackout.

General Discussion / Bytemaster - Reddit questions still pending - Nov 14
« on: November 14, 2014, 08:54:29 pm »
BM, if you have a chance, here's the Reddit questions that are still pending from today's mumble.  Whatever questions you don't have time to address, I'll go ahead and move over to next week's Reddit. Thank you for your time.

1.

Topic: Bitcoin API - Toast
On November 8th, Toast posted "As soon as we make a basic bitcoin compatibility API (next week?) someone can clone https://coinpunk.com/".
Could you please explain more about this development?

asked from here by sudo(https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11064.msg146212#msg146212):
About the infrastructure of ID system: If the keyids are named keys in bts system, how to deal with if the keyid 'peter' and bts id 'peter' are held by 2 different guys?

3.

[–]jimewu 1 point 6 days ago
asked from here by sudo (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11064.msg146122#msg146122) What is the plan about assets inside BTS wallert (the original bitshares ME)? I suggest lowering fee for issue assets, collaborating with large forum to integrate bts asset as bonus points and enable trading. Then tens of thousands of active users can get familiar with bts system.

4.

Topic: BitAssets Properties
You mentioned a future rules with Bitassets:
"Symbols starting with bit will be banned"
"upper case will be enforced. "
"The GUI will COLOR CODE bit assets."
Could you please talk more about your vision of displaying/organizing the Bitassets?

5.

How do VOTE and DNS capabilities fit into the vision of "the future of banking"? What features that were being developed in these DACS will support this vision, and are there still features of VOTE and DNS that will sit outside of this vision?

6.

asked by Alt:
a few question about bts me: 1. Will we be able to change the manager of an asset? If yes, when? 2. Will we be able to issue an asset with multi-sig? If yes, when? 3. Can manager of an asset return transaction fees to asset owners as a delivery of profit? 4. Will we add a function to charge market maintance fee?

asked by her0 How is the price feed calculated? Currently many delegates are using automatic price feeding tools, what are the potential reisks and how to prevent them? Now that delegates are paid for producing blocks, what is the corresponding reviewing mechanism (e.g., KPI) for them? If people teamed up to have a lot of shares in total, it could be wasy for them to vote for their 2nd acocunt into 101 delegates. If there is someone taking control of multiple 101 delegates and suddenly raise their feeding price, will this cause others to have 'insufficient' collaterals?
Since that BTS play would take snapshot and allocate shares to bts shareholders, how to deal with the price fall of bts and related effect to bitUSD market (i.e., insufficient collateral) after the snapshot?

8.

asked by 天籟
Currently shorts will due in a month. When shorts are due, if there are funds in their accounts, I think the system should better automatically try to use these funds to cover, and then use systemic buyback for those cannot be covered. Is the system currently acting like this or else?

9.

Since that Dec. is the deadline of Vote to demonstrate in front of officers of california, what's the progress of Vote?
