General Discussion / Re: Remittances - a really big market for bitUSD
« on: December 11, 2014, 03:02:56 am »
I'd be interested in promoting the remittance market down here in Colombia. Or set up an BitUSD Atm machine. How can I do this?

Please contact Matt608.

wow...I wasn't aware of bitreserve...Although I would never trust my money and have this centralized counterparty risk I think the way the have their "cards", the site, their presentations etc appear quite appealing...Maybe our marketing team can learn a couple of things from them..

I am not sure people realize how powerful is to have our money secured on a dentralized bank like bitshares vs. anything else out there and we need to do more to show this value to other people...

So let's get start bitoil please and let's pump the shit out of BTS to the moon soon and get the 2nd place before we are too late and the centralized companies beat us...

I think it's not so bad. It would let us say "bitshares bitUSD is like bitreserve, only decentralized. Also it has been around longer."

That's my thinking as well.  The question is how do we effectively communicate it.  Just because we were first doesn't mean the market will give us credit.

Look, attempting to guilt some dude into Bitshares because some chick on YouTube gave him spank bank material is not going to do what you want it to in the cryptocommunity. Reaching out beyond the cryptocommunity in this fashion will also fail. This is a serious thing with serious implications in the long term for all of us and potentially the world. Enticing boners to Bitshares is juvenile and retarded. This isn't your WoW guild or BF3 clan we are recruiting for.  We are attempting to disrupt and replace Wall St., ForEx, Remittence, etc. Basically the entire global currency network and structure is just beyond Bitshares fingertips.  It may take a few years just to touch that area legitimately and maybe a decade before there is any real grasp.  A token figurehead appealing to sex deprived men will achieve nothing. You know why? Because they are already here, as determined by a lot of your responses. I can hear the mouth breathing through the interwebs in this forum thread.

Let's try and keep this thing classy. No infomercials either(I was against that too)!

If she's really here to just use her educated experience by way of team MethodX, great. Welcome, I look forward to your contribution.

Groovy, you came to these conclusions from a simple hello from a new member.  Unless you're personally financing it, let's see what VOLUNTEER efforts develop. If you have a competing marketing effort, fantastic, we need different perspectives and people willing to execute on the ideas.

Any nuggets to share with Follow My Vote? I know the group is away at the conference all week with BM.

Summary

* December 14th snapshot date is approaching
* WARNING: Move your funds to your local wallet as some exchanges do not honor snapshots (i.e., Cryptsy)
* Block production in the current PoW chain is SLOW. Transfer funds now (with appropriate fee) to make sure you catch a block.
* Dry Run #2 is announced: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=12157.0

Fellow PTSers,

As the PTS upgrade approaches, in order to ensure that your stake in the new chain is honored you are advised to store your funds in a secured wallet on your local machine. BTER has privately assured us that they will be honoring the snapshot, but other exchanges (specifically cryptsy) may not. As always, the safest route is to maintain control of your own private keys.

One important thing to note is that the current PoW chain is barely producing blocks (~ 1-2 blocks per day). You only need 1 confirmation to be counted in the snapshot, but you will need to move your funds immediately to ensure that they confirm.

Announcement thread: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11877.0

Is there any plans for BTER to publicly assure us they will honor the snapshot?  With Play and Music, they posted a message above the trading pairs.

Sent out a few informal tweets to writers that posted a recent Bitcoin article, already getting hits and passing it on to marketing.  I have a good feeling about our upcoming marketing drives. Once we have an easy to use client, watch out. All the great work everyone on Nullstreet is doing with their marketing lists and those willing to execute the calls will be worth it.

General Discussion / Re: AUSTIN (TX) 7th December
« on: December 10, 2014, 02:37:46 am »
Was fun ...
haven't had a chance to talk to everyone .. there have been around 20 people or so .. I was quite impressed .. Back in Germany we are just a handful nerds at those meetups :)

I also got the impression that Austin has some very well connected enthusiasts that know alot about the technical details of blockchain tech .. worth looking around for new developers over there ..

Troglodactyl and another BitShares guy (not mentioning his name here) did a very very good job describing BitShares to those that have been interested in it.
Most "concerns" could be eliminated in our talks .... No one could come up with a real "issue" .. either in the economical part of BitShares nor with the consensus algorithm DPOS ..

For me it was very interesting to see that many enthusiasts with rather deep technical understanding and an open mind towards BitShares ..

TL;DR; was fun! +5%

I am still in Austin an try to join the other meetup on tuesday ..
Figure that out: austin has 4 meetups .. EVERY WEEK! :)

I hope others take your lead and attend their local Bitcoin meetups.

Is this an annual event?

It should be!
