General Discussion / Re: Project Bring Back Method's Passion...

It can certainly often feel like a thankless task working in a decentralized environment. You don't necessarily get the same supporting feedback that you would get in a more traditional workplace with periodic reviews from your manager and coworkers beside you to support you through tough times etc. One thing we as a community seem to be very "good" at is mistrusting people, criticizing them, forcing them to prove that they are delivering etc. That's unfortunately important to protect our projects. But, for the workers it can then be easy to focus more on the negative stuff and not the positive.

I've personally always appreciated Method-X's hard work and commitment. He was one of the first to stand up and take the reigns when the original western marketing division faltered. I've watched a bubbling enthusiasm over at Nullstreet do amazing stuff and spawn multiple amazing projects. I think Method is appreciated by a lot of us in the community, I just think we are a bit crap at showing it sometimes and perhaps we need to figure out better systems of motivating each other.

Does anyone know why their market maker bot was offline? Do they only have the one bot per exchange? Who maintains the bot, what happens if they are unable to maintain it (sickness, travelling etc)? Isn't this a big human error-like weakness in their system? How do we know their MM bot is actually making money? What if it is making a loss, will it one day just switch off, never to return? Do they publish this information anywhere?

You guys should stop salivating over one low volume trade where some guy fat fingered an order and was off be a decimal place.

Pegs don't prevent the price from ever going away from the peg value for a short time due to things like this, they just ensure that it will go back.

The same exact thing could happen in bitUSD and the Nubits people could laugh at us, but you guys would point out that it was just a brief blip.  Give them the same amount of credit.

Not really salivating, just curious to know what was going on with them. We're all really into this stuff, it's not like we are just going to sit here and not talk about a giant elephant in the room. It's how we talk about it that's important.

Edit: Well I'm not salivating anyways. Can't talk for others.

Yea that was a great read. Anyone have a link to the bitcointalk thread where he posted it?

I spotted it in the "puppies" thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=940298.msg10357700#msg10357700

Edit: which links to instalments in the "Communist BitShares" thread starting here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=916696.msg10210446#msg10210446

Clue is here: "You have just been sent a personal message by stellarinvite"

It's Spam, you were sent a personal message by another user on the forums. Ignore it and don't click the link. Can you edit your post to remove that link so no one else clicks it, because it kinda looks like you are also the spammer as you are helping spread that same link. Edit: Thanks for removing the link.

Same user is spamming threads here too:  https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=13901.msg180969#msg180969 Edit: Comment removed, thanks.

Can a mod ban stellarinvite please.

General Discussion / Re: Consensus on the list of delegates
« on: February 01, 2015, 04:21:29 pm »
I'm trying to find out how BitShares work but some things are not clear to me. Unfortunatelly, these things are fundamental and I can't move ahead without understanding them. Could anyone answer two simple questions, please?

Do the shareholders have the same list of the delegates? If they do then how the consensus is achieved?

There are both unelected and elected delegates. BTS represents stake ("shares") in the BitShares DAC. Anybody that owns BTS can vote for their choice of delegates with their BTS. The more BTS a user has, the more votes they effectively have too. The 101 delegates that receive the most votes from this process become the elected delegates for the BitShares DAC. Users have to pay a fee to become a delegate, so not all users are necessarily delegates. Does this make sense?

However, what I expected to see was a website with moving backgrounds like ripple so this disappointed me a bit. I guess these things are more costly but I think that the future of banking should have moving backgrounds.

We do have a moving a background: http://bitshares.org/resources/vision       :D

None - Fire prevention though - YES. This is part of the node update plans. The design of the shielded node making it an ideal solution for reduced oxygen atmosphere. This is a new technology only recently developed that will prevent fires from happening thanks to lack of oxygen in the node. Instead if there is such a condition it will smolder and aspirators will detect and alert for action.

 :o  Wow!

I've heard of this. Just enough oxygen to breathe, but not enough to sustain a fire. The British Library just installed this in their new National Newspaper Building. Check out an insane video of how cool it is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30929009

Cool! I have some questions:

How long before the data center is set up?

How many racks are you planning?

How much potential space for expansion?

Is it powered by the grid? What are your redundant power supply options?

How are you going to keep everything cool? How good is the existing ventilation? Will you need to install a new system?

Fire suppression system?

What will physical security be like in terms of physical access?

Do you live down there?

How zombie proof is it?
