General Discussion / Re: London meetup
« on: January 18, 2015, 10:49:39 pm »
I will be also there on Saturday. What time does it start and where exactly is this taking place?

Awesome! Our little London community is growing  :D

It's taking place in a school close to Old Street Station www.google.co.uk/maps/place/London+EC2A+4SH

They haven't posted any information on times or schedule yet. I'll give them a ring tomorrow and try and find out.

Welcome Damelon  :D

Dan's article http://bytemaster.bitshares.org/article/2015/01/03/Cooperation-Amoung-Crypto-Projects/ suggests we not burn each other to the ground each time we encounter a perceived slight, and I agree with that. There're bigger fish to fry.

I fully agree  +5%

I'm trying to catch up as I missed the PLAY hangout last Saturday. However, the file you've uploaded here is a delegate hangout from 10th December 2014, not the PLAY hangout from 10th Jan 2015. Would it be possible to get the correct recording? Thanks  :)

General Discussion / Re: The bitcoin death spiral has begun?

Seen on /r/buttcoin. This is really bad... Transaction backlog + miners shutting off due to falling price could cause a total panic run on bitcoin as people can't get their deposits to exchanges confirmed before the price has tanked further. If you hold bitcoins I'd suggest moving them to an exchange you trust asap.

<100 USD is starting to look realistic... This sucks.
I don't understand the point about transaction backlogs. I've had no issues moving BTC around...explain further?

Each new block in Bitcoin has a maximum size of 1MB. This amounts to a maximum of 7 transactions per second. So, if there is a sudden spike in the amount of transactions occurring above this limit then not all of them will make it into the next block. This is when a backlog of transactions occurs.

Btw does anyone know what this means? I'm not much of a tech guy.

"2 BTC blocks 1 with 1.5million days destroyed, another with 660k days destroyed"

https://twitter.com/Lord_Ashdrake/status/555484313706577920

"Destroyed days" is a way of measuring dormancy of coins. If 10 BTC sit in one address for a single day and are then sent to another address, 10 days are destroyed, similarly if 1 BTC sits in an address for 10 days it would also be 10 days destroyed upon moving. So, if in a given day there is a huge amount of days destroyed it could mean that a hoarder is moving a lot of coins they have been hodling for quite a while. It usually makes people nervous as it could mean they are moving them to sell them, pushing the price of a BTC down.

General Discussion / Re: BitaAssets Ball dropping

On a positive note, I am super stoked about Bytemaster's plan for relaunching bitshares.org into a proper exchange-looking site that will show graphs, market depth etc of all the BitAssets. Next time someone says "what is bitshares" we simply point them there and they can see the liquidity of BitBTC/BitUSD and they say "Ah now I can trade Bitcoin with no counterparty risk! Yeesss!"

Could you point me to this discussion?

It was in last week's mumble.

Yep, here's the link for the recording: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=13099.0

Would you like to see more of these?

Yes please. If you record the most popular ones then others in the community can create their own videos for them and use these as the narration.

Yes, that's good.. hope you added that comment to the blog.

Second paragraph on Blog... changed the title a bit too.

I much prefer the article with the edit, far more diplomatic.

Yeah, those forum threads have been highly entertaining to read. Thanks for all you do Stan.

The same sort of accusations keep coming up. Would it be possible to get a common misconceptions page or similar on the main site?

Fantastic! You'll have my vote.

Everyone should vote for elmatos delegate too, they are making the mobile wallet but barely have any votes.

Maybe they haven't ruled BTS out completely yet. He just hasn't done his research on it yet!

I told him they might find the UIA features useful in the parent post. Especially if these notes are supposed to be redeemable for company stock.

Another quote from the main dev found here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2pt4kl/reddit_announces_reddit_notes_aka_reddit_bitcoin/cmztogm

Quote
Hey friends, reddit cryptocurrency engineer here. The post is deliberately vague about technology and legal. For one, we're holding back on committing to a particular technology just because the bitcoin world changes very fast, and we want to make sure we pick the right choice. However, almost certainly it will be either colored coins or sidechains.
Legally, we originally announced we're issuing a "cryptocurrency" that will be "backed" by reddit shares. Issuing such a thing would be illegal since we are not a public company. We have mostly figured out a legal strategy that allows us to give something of actual value to the community, but we are not ready at this moment to announce it.
This post was simply to update the community on our progress (i.e., it is called reddit notes), and to show you the subreddit you can follow to stay up-to-date if you wish: /r/redditnotes

Looks like nothing major is decided in regards to which cryptocurrency they are going to pick. There could be an opening for us here. Also are they aware we are using "notes" for BitShares Music? I really think they should go with Creddits instead, it's so perfect!

Well deserved BM!

I'm Surprised Andreas Antonopoulos isn't voted in, or is the voting still ongoing?

General Discussion / Re: How to clean up this forum
« on: November 26, 2014, 02:45:35 pm »
How about a two tiered system? Posting is always free as conversation should be free, but you can also pay to pin highlighted content at the top for max 24 hours. 5 or so pinned slots, highest bidder wins. If someone knocks you out of the slots you get paid some back, so you only end up paying for the time you were in one of the slots. Anyone can pay to pin anyone's post too if they think it is noteworthy. Payments are either burned or go towards forum running costs.
