Any particular reason you have 2 data directories?

Hmmm. I didn't know that's what that meant. Could it be looking at both my bitsharesX and my bitshares-PTS folders?

Thanks. I tried this and am still getting the "error occurred when trying to start message" even after uninstalling the 64-bit version and installing the 32-bit version instead.

When I uninstall, I delete the roaming\bitshares x folder and then go to programs/uninstall to uninstall bitshares-x. But I suspect this doesn't completely uninstall it, because when I re-install, it remembers that I want to run in xp compatibility mode.  Is there a way to completely flush bitshares x out of my system so I can do a completely fresh re-install?

Thank you for the suggestion but I deleted config.json and when I tried to start the client again, I got a critical error box that said: "An error occurred while trying to start. Please try restarting the application."   When I try to restart, the same box pops up again.

Can you think of anything else to try?

I have now uninstalled the previous versions and installed the 64 bit Windows version 4.15, but am still getting a Not Connected message in the bottom right corner of the screen. Here are the results of get_info:

Please let me know if you have any ideas on how I can get connected.  Thanks.

Thanks to xeroc and onceuponatime for your suggestions, but despite several re-installs and reboots I'm still hung up on the "An error occurred while trying to start" problem and am not getting anywhere, so I think I'm just going to wait for the next release of the wallet software before trying again.

Thanks. But now when I try to start the program a little window pops up that says "An error occurred while trying to start". My only option is to press ok and  then the window disappears and nothing happens. Have you seen that message before?

I'm thinking I will need to re-install again.

I am using Windows 7. With earlier versions I was getting a message on the bottom line of the Bitshares-X window  that I was not connected.

I have uninstalled previous versions and deleted the Roaming\Bitshares X folder and reinstalled with the 4.12  32bit  version of the bitshares x wallet.

However, I am still getting a "Not Connected" message, which remains there regardless of how long I wait.

Is there anything I can do to correct this, or at least to help diagnose what is causing the problem?

I have upgraded to version 4.8 but an still getting a similar problem. It still says "Not Connected" on the bottom right corner of the screen, and the error message says: RPC Server Error: In block_chaiin_list_assets: Assert Exception (10).
If I type getinfo iin the console it says:

10 assert_exception: Assert Exception
is_open(): Database is not open!

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

I am using version 4.7 of the bitshares-x wallet on Windows 7, and managed to add an account and get it registered.  But now, when I start the program I get a message at the bottom right hand corner of the screen that says "Not Connected". The status bar says: RPC Server Error: In method wallet_get_info: Key not found (6).  How can I recover from this?

Please help me to register my account. My key is:

Could you provide us with more details on what happens on step #4? Is the button still available so you can press it second time?

Thanks for the reply. I don't understand why, but I tried it one more time doing the same things I had done previously, and this time it worked. I am going to change the title to Resolved.

right click the short cut, go to properties, click compatibility tab, then make it backwards compatible with windows xp service pack 3.
Thanks. I tried that, but I get the same result.
1) I uninstalled and deleted the appdata folder for Bitshares-x.
2) I reinstalled and when it says launch, I said no and instead went to properties for the icon and changed the compatibility mode.
3) I started the software using the icon and entered the same password twice and pressed create wallet
4)  A few large dots flash on and off quickly (less than a second) and I wait. Nothing happens.
5) I quit by using the menu option from the file menu.
6) I re-start the program using the icon
7) It asks for my password to open the wallet. I enter the password - it says "Wrong Password"

Just confirming, on launch it shows a password box and a password confirmation box, you enter the same password in the two boxes and click to confirm, but nothing happens at all?
A few large dots display for less than a second, and then nothing happens after that.

Technical Support / Can't create bitshares-x wallet - Resolved

I have downloaded and installed version 4.7 of the bitshares-x wallet on Windows 7.  When I start the software it asks me to enter a password to create a wallet. Nothing seems to happen. If I quit and restart the software, it asks for my password and then tells me I have the wrong password. I have tried uninstalling and deleting the appdata bitshares-x folder and reinstalling and starting over again, and I have tried starting the program as administrator, but I always get the same result.  Can you help me create and open a wallet?
