"This balance was highlighted in Lawsky's statements that the law seeks to only apply to "financial intermediaries" and not software providers."

You beat me to it! I have'nt put the blog post together yet or had the press release out! :)

Hey Mark, welcome to the BTS platform. Would you be able to make a post in General Discussion briefly explaining what BanxShares is?

I just read the article and didnt think it was that bad. I guess it could have been better written, but all in all i thought it was pretty good.

For the record, BM does a good job of explaining the BitShares concept. I would suggest that everyone here would agree to that and the mumbles prove it.

I think if you're not involved in crypto the whole thing can prove complicated and difficult to visualize.

+5% Spot on.

Title III only limits crowdfunding to a million dollars per year from non-accredited investors. So probably not.

Whats wrong with a million dollars per year? Actually I heard it's 50 million.

I heard it was 50 billion, but that was my pot dealer so really who knows?

50 trillion dude!

You guys will also be interested in project maelstrom.

It's a browser based on Chromium, made by BitTorrent Inc and is basically a way to make websites into torrents. Popular websites load fast and are completely decentralized. So for example, sites like The Pirate Bay could remain active even if they lose access to every domain. And as long as you're using the Maelstrom browser, they're just as easy to access as any regular website.

Very strange.

I assume they are only useful for static content. I can't see how dynamic websites could possibly work. But I guess most things nowadays are moving to single-page web apps that communicate with the server using JSON over a REST API. So this could allow you to just use your web servers for the API and leave all other content to the decentralized network (which ideally is properly motivated through micropayments).

Yeah exactly. I think this is a fantastic first step toward a more decentralized web and if it can further be incentivised by micropayments, even better. I see Maelstrom as being much more practical than something like Maidsafe, which has been under development for over 7 years.

General Discussion / Re: The Matrix Trilogy Decoded - Mindblow

If you're into the Matrix, you'll love The Invisibles by Grant Morrison.

That looks cool...anywhere I can read them online?

You should be able to torrent them (same with Simulacra and Simulation), otherwise check out Amazon for legal copies. I would also HIGHLY recommend "Memetic Magick: Manipulation of The Root Social Matrix And The Fabric of Reality" by Kirk Packwood. The latter requires at least a basic understanding of memetic theory.

I figure I should also bring up the obvious element missing from this conversation... In the second movie, Neo was given the option to go through a back door and reset the matrix mainframe (reboot the matrix) or go back into the matrix and rescue Trinity (feminine spirit). It seems pretty obvious to me this whole cryptocurrency movement is an attempt to reboot the matrix and place ourselves on top as its "benevolent" overlords.

The only way to establish true change is to heal our sick consciousness. People must begin to care about each other again. This isn't an easy process and can be achieved slowly with a free and censorship resistant Internet. It can also be sped up with the use of entheogens like ayahuasca.

I say give it to the developers but make the default referer a delegate parameter. If it needs changing in the future, get 51% of delegates to tweak the parameter. Otherwise sending it to the reserve pool would also make sense.

Technical Support / Re: BitShares Viewed as an Inter-Exchange Network
« on: June 16, 2015, 02:16:04 pm »
What is the benefit for an exchange to drop all their legacy technology in favour of becoming a gateway? Where do they earn revenue in this new model?

you can set fees for your IOU (trading , transfer fee  , in the form of IOU)
And you can darstically reduce costs
for severs, development, maintanance, security stuff .. audits ...

 +5% This. Security in particular.

wait until they find out about bitshares

BitShares has been the 4th most valuable & arguably the most groundbreaking blockchain for nearly a year. I'm sure any company serious about investing in blockchain technology knows about it. I assume they'll be buying our code and hiring our developers in the very near future, if they haven't started already.

Yeah everyone is thinking this. Seems like we funded a crypto company that forked into a meatspace company and we don't have access to its shares. On the other hand, they will be getting paid to improve the codebase BTS uses and will be learning what exactly companies want with blockchain tech. I think that can only benefit bitshares in the long run. Another benefit will be the networking that happens. Graphene has a lot of potential use as a "private blockchain", hence the focus on dynamic account permissions. Private chains by their very nature don't compete with what BTS is.

bytemaster, will the community be able to invest in Cryptonomex directly through a BTS UIA?

It would be great to see Cryptonomex eat the BTS dogfood with something this important.

Additionally, would a sharedrop on the table for BTS, PTS or AGS holders?

Sharedropping on BTS holders is an interesting idea. It would make sense considering our investment is what made all this possible. It would also be another world first.

  • Dan has stated the developers will not work on any chain competing with BTS.
  • Licensing Graphene allows them to fund development for many years to come.
This news should come as a relief to the market as I believe the low price was a result of future development uncertainty.
