General Discussion / How to bootstrap bitUSD liquidity?
« on: October 22, 2015, 12:45:33 am »
The bottleneck to adoption and utility is bootstrapping liquidity. Always has been.

Step #1: You need bitUSD liquidity.
Step #2: Do stuff that ONLY makes sense on a decentralized exchange and/or with stable crypto.

So we all know #1 needs to happen before anything else can occur. Once you've got decent liquidity:

a) The referral program will actually work because conversion will be good (people referred will actually generate income for the referrer). In fact, I would recommend lowering fees until you have some initial traction and conversion increases.
b) BitUSD can be used for gambling.
c) BitUSD can be used to securely trade altcoin derivatives on the DEX.
d) BitUSD can be used in countries with unstable currencies.
e) BitUSD can be used to buy stuff on the darknet (especially with stealth transactions).

A stable crypto has a ton of utility but only if it's liquid. Everyone who follows and develops for this project obviously gets that. The only discussion going on right now should be how to get to a liquid USD. The story of bitshares has, from the beginning, been a chicken and egg problem and I'm honestly not sure it can be solved at this point. Someone tell me I'm wrong?

General Discussion / Re: Lowering Transfer Fees
« on: October 21, 2015, 10:06:02 pm »
How is regional pricing even possible on a blockchain? Transfer fees are not the problem, traders have been saying since day one they want to place orders for cheap and only pay when it's filled. Raise the price of a successful order significantly and your problem is solved. Hold a focus group with ONLY traders and get their feedback (make a thread, do it on Skype, whatever). Don't listen to lay people who are not traders (myself included). Your product is a decentralized exchange, focus on getting that right before you pivot.

How are stealth transfers in BTS2 done? Is there a thread explaining it?

Lower the transaction fee, placing and canceling order fee.
Increase the fee when trade success to 0.05% or more.

We will get more income,  and less argument.

This. There is nothing inherently wrong with the referral program; only its current implementation.

Ya'll need to get into thevault.bz

Thanks for the lead, but "We have reached our maximum open signup limit (5,000)" and "An invitation from an existing member is required to join this site".

Yup, you need an invite from an admin. It's a filter.

When the outside world looks at this thing, they don't even know the fee rate can be changed over time, so they're thinking, "nice, if this coin hits 3 billion market cap like Bitcoin, I get to pay $15 in fees per transaction!

had the same thought the other day  :-\

Can fees be displayed as USD? Seeing something like 5 cents has a much lower perceived value than 20 BTS.

In the US Scottrade is seen as a bargain basement trading firm at $7 per trade!! Seriously. Other houses charge $25+ USD PER TRADE!!. Let's get some perspective on what the market will bear.

To put it in context most US trading companies charge between 1500 - 5000 BTS per trade.

Yeah I definitely agree. My bank charges about $20 CAD per trade, which is ridiculous.

If you want to upgrade this forum, use Flarum.

@IOHKCharles Maybe you should campaign as a proxy voter. I mean, assuming you still have any BTS. It would be a powerful statement.
