General Discussion / Re: VOTE DAC Just Got More Interesting 2.0

opinion polls is a big business... firms get paid to conduct them, and people get paid to participate... promising synergy of decentralised voting with decentralised payments in one app... "answer our poll and you get paid in bitUSD" :)

for I3 and all of us, being flexible when opportunities arise may be much more valuable than adhering to a pre-designed plan. "Chance favors the prepared mind"  - L. Pasteur

very cool!  +5%. Great symbols, transparent concept - one just wants to stay and click though that site!

A few thoughts:

1 - at "Private" section - would it be better to use some picture less resemblant to a "mafia crook"?

2 - the section "Interest" could alternatively be named "Profitable" (just in order to keep all titles as descriptive adjectives)?

3 - in both sections "Secure" and "Decentralised" are focused on protection from government. I would leave the government reference just to one of them... And, as bitUSD is designed for mainstream, is it worth to also emphasise protection against hacking?

4 - another possible section: "Instant"/"Fast"/"Immediate"?

5 - at some point perhaps, hopefully an additional section could be added: "Legal"/"Legitimate" ;)

General Discussion / Re: How to measure the PEG....
« on: October 16, 2014, 09:04:54 am »
The only way to measure it in a meaningful manner is to take into account size of order. If I was to convert $100k of BitUSD to BTSX at market and then back, how much would I lose? It's probably close to 10-20% at the moment.

As explained in another thread virtually zero!

You can buy bitUSD (100K is small enough amount, it will work for much bigger amounts say 15Mil bitUSD) and sell them back at the peg in reasonable amount of time (30 days or less) with 100% certainty!

You don't seem to understand the meaning of the word liquid. Hint: It's nowhere near 30 days.

If I buy/sell GLD on the stock market within seconds. How much would that cost me?

Also we were talking about measuring it. How about we actually do a graph and visualize the liquidity loss of 10K,100K,1M, etc.

You keep telling me it's not that bad, but anytime I looked at the chart I was like, why would anyone buy here if they don't have the ability to get out quickly?

Yes, I do believe I understand what liquid means... I also believe that for you liquid means instant gratification...

I also understand that you are very particular about how  things must be presented  to you, in order for you to get them or ... not. And that presentation  determines in a great extend the stuff you get ...and the one you do not... so no bit in your meat... so to speak but then again...  I am regressing to my former self.

zerosum, please cool down - there is no reason becoming personal here. i don't think there is 100% certainty anywhere... sometimes minsky moment ensures that things which appear certain become no longer so... bitUSD hasn't grown big enough yet in terms of liquidity, there is little demand yet at these early stages, and the PEG hasn't been sofar seriously attacked. it is worth examining potential defences before nasty things potentially happen (even if hopefully they don't) ;)

it doesn't look to me like bitmeat is seeking for instant gratification in trading bitUSD, rather the ability to get out quickly close to the peg is the essential value proposition of bitUSD. and we all know, it will take some time to establish such functionality, so patience is an important feature for all bitshares users and investors...

General Discussion / Re: Video of Inside Bitcoins keynote?

Wonder how it's going...

Just watch the live BTSX ticker in any exchange ...  it's like watching Dan speaking   :P
when it's going down assume he is saying something about the 5% inactivity fee possibility ,
when it's going up he is for sure talking about the bitAssets yield  8)  :)

when it's not moving means everyone is hypnotised by his talk.... ^^

Muse/SoundDAC / Re: BitShares Music market cap prediction
« on: October 07, 2014, 07:07:46 am »
It's crazy, the cap of btsx is 18000 btc.

You mean PTS market cap is about 18,000 BTC? Because BTSX is some 180,000...
Since PTS give you a 10% stake in a new DAC, 10,000 BTC cap implies PTS would fall by ~0.15$ or $300k post Bitshares Music snapshot... Imho the drop will likely be ~0.5$ or $1m. A market cap of 5-10m$ at launch sounds reasonably safe, with much upside potential before some people would dump, leaving enough time for marketing. . I think that if launch was at 20-30m$, this would be rather tempting for pumpers and dumpers...  dumping after a pump with a price going below IPO usually leaves negative perception of a project and could demotivate holders and devs somewhat, so ideally should be reduced magnitude...

Technical Support / Re: Balance missing because of old wallet file
« on: October 06, 2014, 07:56:14 pm »
Okay, I did now the following sequence:
-> wallet_rescan_blockchain -> OK -> 100%
-> wallet_regenerate_keys kisa0145 2000 -> 2000 -> 100%
-> rescan -> OK -> 100%
-> wallet_regenerate_keys kisa0145 3000 -> 4000 -> 100%

no improvement yet :/

Try 2000 .. and run "rescan" manually

>> wallet_regenerate_keys kisa0145 2000

2999

no transaction scanning in progress...

>> rescan

OK

No changes... Sorry if I misunderstand what you meant by "manually"... (BTW, I hope you received my 250 BTSX to talktip.xeroc ;)

>> wallet_regenerate_keys kisa0145 1000

1000

then nothing happens (don't see transaction scanning as was the case when i tried this command in previous versions)...
and i dont see any improvements to 10x outflows to UNKNOWN and still missing balance.

General Discussion / Re: Bitcoin at $330 ?
« on: October 05, 2014, 07:11:06 pm »
we had huge daily volume in Bitstamp with BTC falling to 275 today.
reminds much of October 2nd, 2013 when BTC suddenly fell to below 85, this after trading above 100 for months...

my guess (trying to stay unbiased and not mix up intuition with hopes) -> we are seeing short covering / bottom fishing / loading up by whales right now...  quite likely -> this was the big bottom today. the next secular bull could start from now on.

Hi Vikram, just an update - no change yet with wallet_regenerate_keys within 0.4.20

Can you describe your situation like PTSWarrior did here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9194.msg121778#msg121778

PTSWarrior, were you able to recover your funds?

please see here the original thread, Vikram...
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8371.msg114079#msg114079

to briefly summarize - on september 8th i bought 1000 bitUSD and left some market orders. later that day my windows crashed and i had to run system recovery. unfortunately i only had old wallet backup. all my market transactions and orders of September 8th show outflows to unknown, so i am missing some 120K BTSX and 1000bitUSD in my balance. xeroc kindly posted this issue on https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit/issues/769
