Toast,

In the short term you would be right but I don't think most people here are considering the long term strategic implications of what Minebitshares can become. It's a marketing method because it does encourage people to buy BTSX, but it also markets the BitAssets. It's also capable of becoming something more if you think about things strategically.

Once miners get into the Bitshares ecosystem through the mining pool they can earn interest, trade, do all sorts of exclusive stuff. So why are we going to encourage people to go to a central exchange to trade coins they mined when we can turn the mining pool into an exchange, or even into a Gateway someday?

So from a strategic perspective Minebitshares is the perfect on-ramp into the ecosystem. Depending on how successful it is and how many Litecoin miners mine on it there are many possibilities.

This can be a good way to bring in the POW-miners/diehards.  Hope to hear some news on the progress.

cube have you looked into being listed on http://www.beyondbitcoinx.net/ ?

No, I did not. I am taking a look now.

Edit: I try to register but I am not getting the email for activation.  I do not get the email even after I 'click' resend.

General Discussion / Re: Incentivize taking BTSX off the exchanges
« on: September 18, 2014, 12:21:34 pm »
Does anyone else think exchanges may see BTSX as a threat to their business model?

I believe they do.  They may not see BTSX a threat in near term but it could in time to come.

Is it possible to generate a Top 100 BTSX address? also someone can build a distribution graph?

Top 100 address is contradict to Titan's privacy provision. Is that not the case?

Mining is dead, but miners are still alive and well. That's what we must deal with going forward.

Mining is not dead. The older POW altcoins are replaced with 'more sexy' ones - cryptonotes, btcd and its Supernet.  And the scrypt people have moved into profitable cloud-based ASIC mining.

General Discussion / Re: Suggestions for GUI charts
« on: September 17, 2014, 07:19:02 am »
There is an issue tracker for these suggestions which can be tracked by developers more easily .. I recommend posting there:
https://github.com/BitShares/web_wallet/issues

I am not sure if the suggestions in OP are considered as issues.  I think they are more of 'request for features' or sharing ideas for improvement?   I like the suggestions too.

Technical Support / Re: Not Connected 4.12
« on: September 17, 2014, 06:11:18 am »
This problem happened to me many times with different versions.  Here is how I resolved it:

1) Delete everything in the Roaming\Bitshares X folder EXCEPT the wallets folder
2) Launch bitsharex client
3) You will see the 'Not connected' but it will go away after a while. I think it is trying to find nodes and establish connections. So need to be patient. When the number of connections starts going up, btsx client will start downloading the blockchain.
4) Use the 'info' command at the Console  to monitor progress.

You may like to go safe if you are using Windows - try 32bit instead of 64bit btsx client.

Technical Support / Re: Is it possible to buy BTSX with...

Last BTC purchase I did was using localbitcoins (very recently), much easier than getting verified through an exchange and it went very smoothly. Had my BTCs in a matter of hours, but be careful and do your own research about the person you're dealing with. There's an interesting rating feature, so you can see how many succesful deals the guy did and if there were any unsatisfied client.

That's not an investment advice, simply another possibility for you to look at. You have to make your own research, evaluate the risks/benefits and make your own decision.

Besides localbitcoins I've also been looking into cashtocrypto. Unfortunately I there's nobody within 2 hours of me that can handle the volume I need. Most of those listed are under $1000.

Cashtocrypto offers a snail mail option. Not as fast as other choices but it might do. Seems like every option will involve snail mail or other physical delivery mechanism, if I wish to have any privacy in the transaction or keep it out of the purview of the banking empire.

The channel to buy btsx is via BTC.  Getting a BTC is through an exchange which requires KYC ie through a bank account.  If you like to avoid that, you can consider renting a mining rig and mine some POW coins.  Some of these guys allows you to pay via Paypal or credit card.  You may give it a try.

Well, that's it gentlemen, after 3.5 weeks of slowly buying I'm finally all in. Bought my last BTSX today and saved 20 BTC for PTS. I'm sure BTC will now rally and BTSX will plummet. Such is life. :o

Prophetic  :-\

Hopefully a bear trap before liftoff.

The slide has accelerated somewhat.  It may be a bear trap after all.

2GB is recommended for running a delegate ... but for compilation you might need alot more
check this out on how to add swap memory: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-add-a-swap-file-howto/

Is 2GB RAM with swap enough for running a delegate especially the latest version?  I am using 4GB RAM with swap now.

This FREE beer asset idea is neat.  How do you 'pass' the free beer to interested participants?

Unfortunate it is not 'free beer', it is 'free as in beer'.
Otherwise we would have had enough demand...
lol .. yhea :)

I thought about a classical QR-code private key for an address that is preloaded with some FREE and maybe 1 BTSX to register an account ..
QR-code private key works the same as in bitcoin .. (almost)

lol.. I did not notice 'as in beer'.  I must have been dreaming of a cool beer drink.  QR-code is easy to use. Can this be implemented in time?

I am still a little confused about one of BMs replies in another thread saying that titan does not use change addresses ..

There are several issues you need to consider when talking about privacy .. whenever you transfer funds, you will need to have an INPUT to your transaction. That input possible has an higher amount of funds in it than you want to transfer .. that tells the merchant how much money you AT LEAST have left in your wallet .. nothing else .. then there is the possibility that the OUTPUT is bigger than your inputs and the transaction thus has to join some of your OUTPUTS .. same issue here .. except that the merchant can now link two or more transaction to you.

Those are the only concerns I have here ..

There are also concerns when I comes to voting delegates
http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/ApprovalVoting

Yes, TITAN will make it much harder to trace the transactions back to the owner. However it is possible for a determined and skilled person to trace the obfuscated  transactions and link them up. In other words, it is not totally anonymous.

as some of you might have noticed ... i registered an asset .. at the beginnign of btsx ..
it's called 'FREE' ... free as in beer (description)

I thought we can maybe use this for a marketing campaing .. something viral ..
my thought would be to preload some addresses and print the private keys in QR format onto a flyer for las vegas ..
i'd preload all of this with say 100 FREE and 0.5 btsx so that these guys can register a name ..
when keeping a copy of the QR codes we do not loose btsx when someone decide not to take them .. (maybe after 6 months or so)
if we decide to do this, we should probably ask the devs to add some QR-code
related features to the GUI .. and also .. transactions to multiple addresses
.. so that I don't need to pay1000BTSX transaction fees

This FREE beer asset idea is neat.  How do you 'pass' the free beer to interested participants?

l ve had  wallet 0.4.12 and upgrated to 0.4.15 but wallet is not connecting to server ,did l made mistake by skipping upgrates 0.4.13 and 14?

regards

You may try the rescan function as mentioned by xeroc. If this step does not work, you can try deleting all the folders in %appdata%\BitShares X EXCEPT the wallets folder (make backup of your wallets before deleting as always) and re-launch bitsharex.  The program will take a few minutes before starting to sync.
