General Discussion / Re: BitShares 0.5.0 Feedback
« on: January 17, 2015, 09:11:20 pm »
The user experience is still a little jarring.  The program feels "heavy" to use because of all the resource usage. I don't think it's necessarily bad, as long as it's stable.

It gives the program an air of mystery, like "what's it doing in there?".

I'm assuming that there is no way to cut down on resource usage? If it can be done, it should, because currently it represents a barrier to entry for users who are running their lives on the lean side so to speak.  Bitshares should be inclusive to people of all economic standing in my opinion.

but, what is it doing with all that memory and cpu?

where does one procure the Bitshares_client?   I need something that will work.

There's no help for it, bitcoin is the leader of the crypto-commodities.  when it raises or declines, all other similar products do too.  the same for bitcoin in the context of other commodities.  everything is connected.

one thing is for certain tho,   The wallet must be fixed.  it's unusable for many users at this point, there's no way that that's acceptable.  it's sad too, because if the basics of this project are not being met, it gives the project an air of "pipe dream".

so far it looks like the same problems as the last release.  I can't get synced enough to broadcast.  the chain stalled out at 45 days left. over 2 gig memory usage.  high cpu consumption.  can't quit the program without a crash.  program unexpectedly quits without any messages.  various elements of the GUI freeze while others still work.

Technical Support / Re: Can't see my account and block processing stalled
« on: January 14, 2015, 08:56:48 pm »
This is the same problem I'm having....  the program just eats memory and cpu.  the blocks download, then slow, then stop updating (but still download) then the whole works freezes up.  I cannot quit the program without it crashing, and even after it leaves a memory-intensive process hanging.  the longer I leave the program running, the bigger the memory usage, I've seen it at over 2.5 gigs.  The last time I tried to access my account, I downloaded the chain and got to 12 days remaining, then it thrashed my hard-drive, crashed, and the next time I started it, it started downloading from 178 days again.

The program acts strangely, certain functions work, while others are freezing.  trying to access the market causes a freeze, while the account view works fine.  one version of the unlock screen freezes, while the one you can access from the drop-menu works.

does anyone have any ideas about why this version is so buggy?  what could the program be doing to require so much memory and cpu?  is the program dependent on some other program such as Java that needs to be updated for the wallet to work correctly?  is there some way that I could choose to install the 32-bit version?  are these problems only happening on the Windows platform, or is everyone experiencing issues?

Do you know about what time tomorrow?  I just cannot get this last version to sync.

The technical problems are getting out of hand :-/

Hi there community,

I'm hoping someone here can help me out.  I just cannot get the latest version of the bitshares wallet to run properly.  First I ran into the problem where the wallet told me I already had an instance running.  I followed the fix for that and the wallet worked for a short time.  Next, the wallet app seized up while syncing, then the memory usage ballooned up to about 1.5 gigs,  and now the app freezes on the loading screen and then just disappears after a while and nothing else happens.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Are these problems common?  Are there fixes?

I've tried resetting the database, re-installing the app, and clearing the blockchain, none of it works. :-(

A lot of these features and services will come to fruition around the end of 2016 I would think.

Thanks!   :D

I think with something like this, we'd have a chance at bringing in non-Bitcoin people.  It would have to be timed in such a way that people could use Bitshares as a bank.  so.... onramps/offramps would have to be in place, preferably by card.
The united front of the Bitshares business should be simple, elegant, and talk only of what it can do for you.  All the blockchain/delegate stuff should be available, but not out front.  To the public, Bitshares is a bank.  It functions just like you are used to, except with privacy, and without the corruption.

Similar campaigns could be launched for the other functions of bitshares when they become viable.

Any thoughts on this idea?

what about pooling email lists of universities and students from uni websites and send emails with a 5 line presentation of BTS. The community can do this as long as the marketing guys write down 5 sentences and send us unis lists..

+5%   Street teams pounding the pavement at such places could help win supporters. These campaigns could be highly targeted.  We need grass-roots support from up and coming genius and influential individuals.
