General Discussion / Re: Help me Identify the Top 10 most harmful laws!
« on: December 07, 2015, 10:29:49 pm »

I've seen so many lives ruined by unjust drug laws, this is the first and loudest thing that comes to mind, echoing sentiments of @merivercap, @CLains and others above.

So I would put nonviolent drug offenses at the top of the list, especially since it affects such an insanely large number of people and consequently has a dramatically negative effect on society.

There are others who lost big time however, to the tune of $50K.

I have missed that. Who was that? I3?

Yes.  We lent him the capital for the gold inventory.  Then he ran.  I would very much support a community led campaign to track him down and pressure him into refunding the money.   I will offer a bounty of 50% to anyone who can track it down, the other 50% will be put toward improving BTS.

With this sort of motivation, I have a feeling Gentso will come to his senses before too long... Hanover, PA is trivial, and the Philippines sure are lovely this time of year.

The American Commonwealth, Volume 2 - James Bryce - 1888

This author had never experienced 21st century propaganda, but I appreciate the sentiment, from which Louis Brandeis would later state that: “Publicity is justly commended as a remedy for social and industrial diseases. Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman.”

I just listened to the mumble... I have to think about it some more, but my initial reaction is that yes, we need a great deal more transparency across the board, as well as the option to remain utterly private.  Authority has a greater burden of proof in the exercise of privacy, or secrecy.

I think Dan is onto something here, Facebook has proved that people are willing to share a whole lot of information for the betterment of a small group of elites.  Who will build a platform which leverages that same willingness for the betterment of everyone?

General Discussion / Re: Fee Backed Assets (FBA)
« on: November 28, 2015, 07:41:44 am »
I really like this line of thinking, and I'm curious to see it evolve.  It is a huge development for development and we need to arrive at a generally agreed upon elegant solution.

One thought I had: If a committee controlled account is not involved in the issuance of said FBA somehow... it would be wise to create a multi-sig mechanism to guard against various unfortunate events which could occur, such that should an issuer of the FBA die, or lose their owner key, or become compromised somehow, all would not be lost.  The issuer could choose a number of trusted parties with whom to vouchsafe control over the FBA.  There's probably a really uncomplicated way to achieve this, conceptually it makes sense to me, not sure of the best mechanics.  Food for thought.

Yes I agree with you @cube and it's really not my call anyway.  Solly should build wherever it makes the most sense to build.  I agree there's plenty of working together which can be done and I'm all for not unnecessarily duplicating work.  I haven't really considered MUSE collaboration too much I guess because I know it has come up before and nothing seemed to result, also because cob is flying so far under the radar in stealth dev mode I only have the faintest bearings on their plans.  Solly, either way, keep going! :)

Back on topic.  I think this is one killer development!  Thanks @onceuponatime for bringing this to the fore, talk about putting your money where your mouth is!  UIA's profit sharing in feature development will fuel the the next wave of development.  And thanks @Samupaha for starting this thread!

The mall analogy while useful, only doesn't hold up because we are not bound by physical space, so the lifetime lease issue is a moot point.  It's really a matter of how useful a feature will remain for what length of time, and when will it be replaced or amended and how do we as a community decide to handle these cases, who is making these agreements, and what is the process for negotiating?  I personally think that a general, boiler plate agreement would be best in most cases, since it would provide something which is generally lacking around here, which is a standard operating procedure for how things get done.  Case by case is costly.  I say let investors make a case to make an exception to the boiler-plate agreement and otherwise don't mess with it.  We already have so many moving parts as it is.

"Everyone hates cable... even cable hates cable."  LOL.

Looking great Solly! The animations are killer, the voiceover and audio is great, it's engaging!  if only folks knew how long someone has to stare at a screen to make all that cool stuff happen!  I think coders of all people should understand.

I think your project is just so far outside of the realm of most people's capacity to imagine currently, that you will understandably receive a degree of pushback.  I'm not sure if you can get this community to support a worker proposal in the current depression era mentality, where the fight is among which core features to add to the protocol itself, and with what funding, but a UIA investment strategy might be the ticket.  I would contribute something of my meager holdings to your efforts.

I think in the future when BitShares is generally profitable, proven, and healthy, people will loosen up to the idea on incubation services and seed funding for companies which are 'building on BitShares, and whose success will benefit the ecosystem.  Currently I wouldn't personally dare a worker proposal even for strictly non-marketing, non-referral oriented BitShares community content, since the community hasn't yet made up it's mind about how it is going to function, and is pretty much just making all this up on the fly.  But you have thicker skin than me, and so I guess it doesn't hurt to try!

Nevertheless. I support you in accomplishing your vision however you see fit, and however you can manage.  As content creators we have to stick together in the face of all this fierce practicality.. eg. What's wrong with a horse?  Then later, if humans were meant to fly we'd have wings!  Then later, the internet, I don't think it will be used for much.  Then later, Uber? what?  We already have taxis!

The list of successful human innovations goes on, and each of them had their detractors.  As we progress into greater and greater abstractions of value, it just gets more difficult to convey the meaning behind a project of any enormity.  I'm happy to see you are still pressing forward despite working with limited resources, and facing doubters everyday.

Count me among your supporters, and though I'm stretched pretty thin on all fronts, let me know how I can help.

@cube you can be sure Solly has considered using MUSE, but why would we want to send him away to join a separate chain when we can have a killer content sharing app operating on the BitShares blockchain?  MUSE needs some competition, after all.

@lovejoy

I was just looking through Solly's delegate thread and there is not much he did. Actually just text and the video for BunkerShares which was in February. So he did not cut the road video you say, hm, what's left then?

He woke up in August when he was voted out. Followed by large text walls with nothing inside but 'sorry, take full responsibility' generic sry bullshit.

We could have needed a little 1 minute video to promote BTS2.0 in October. Nothing. Around 7 months of delegate pay. Now he needs more money..

FACEPALM

Sir you are confused... It is increasingly clear you are not taking the time to understand this project and its goals. If you can seriously go through each element I posted for the proposal and come to the ridiculous conclusion there is not much I have done?

Do you know the going rates for animation compositing in America? Do you know the going rates for narration and video production in America? Do you know the amount of time it takes to do that for one individual on the budget I have? Do you know you have to actually compensate individuals who help on your set productions? Do you know the going rate for camera rentals? Are you serious?

I am fine with you not believing this project can help Bitshares (for whatever reason) but to say I have not done anything is highly disingenuous. I have done much and I plan to do much more. I have laid out from the very beginning my goals and roadmap. Everything is still on schedule.

If you are going to post here I suggest you actually try to understand the project and the amount of time it takes for content creation. This is a Powered by Bitshares project not a promote Bitshares technology to the masses project. I dont believe promoting Bitshares functions will be its killer app I believe promoting Bitshare's Entrepreneurial community will be its killer app. It is WE (You and I) the people need not the technology.

I am an entrepreneur using this technology to reach a new audience. That audience does not need Bitshares, it needs to use Bitshares through a product that will actually change their everyday lives. That is Sollars and $ense UIA with the marketplace Sollywood TV. And it needs a face and voice to connect to. That is me. Humans connect with humans.

Have you listened to these episodes that will be cut?

Episode 2 - Bitshares Community(Audio)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNNYB2cLbTc&feature=youtu.be

Episode 5 - Customers Call to Action (Audio)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drU-RrS-o20&feature=youtu.be

As a matter of fact have you listened to any of the episodes? Do you understand when these episodes air they will be viewed by Millennials? What platform currently on Bitshares has a Millennial audience? Or a laid out plan to get them? Do you believe these scripts and that voice created itself?

Again you do not have to believe in this project. You have that freedom. But lets try to stay on topic and stay positive. FUDing me doesn't get me or you anywhere closer to a larger market cap. If you have concerns ask a question. I would be more than willing to explain any portion of my roadmap with the content I have laid out in the Stakeholder's Proposal. It is laid out for a reason. Understand that each content piece I laid out has taken time and thought to create. I would appreciate that.

Thank you and everyone have a nice Thanksgiving!

Whether or not you understand the project Solomon is working on, I can say without a doubt he is a passionate and highly skilled entrepreneur attempting to create something the world has never seen before.  He has a vision and the courage to develop it and his efforts have been only modestly powered by delegate pay, the rest has been an exceptional amount of sweat equity.  It takes a lot of work to create content at the level of video and animation production he's operating at.

Please stop attacking people who are trying to build their enterprise on the BitShares protocol.  You're not helping.  Do, or do not support the worker proposal he intends to launch.  Do or do not provide technical support in building the content delivery system he envisions.  Do or do not provide words of encouragement.

At the end of the day, complaining about others is the least effective means of change. Either do something to help, shut up, or leave.

I'm also not on the book of faces, but I understand the desire for relatively easy authentication / mass adoption.  I guess we just have to create the next big social network so you'll be compelled to switch. ;)

@pts38
You had several months of 100% delegate pay. You made the road video which was excellent (don't know if u did that alone or with the others) but that was all? I think you are not producing enough. With a 100% payrate I could have made big waves, but you are mostly using words like 'later, after kickstarter, etc.'. Nice words but not much behind.

I think you are confused @38PTSWarrior - Roadscape and I made the P2P Tour video.  We interviewed Solly, but that was it.  Solly has his own thing brewing.

General Discussion / Re: What can we do better in BTS land?

BM, whatever you do, please do not ever stop being yourself. BitShares is becoming many things to many different people which is fantastic. For me, as my user handle says, the exploration of the potential for  innovation and integrity are what fascinate me. From the very beginning it was you and Stan that provided the heart and soul for that vision.....one which I hope will echo through eternity.

I appreciate all the honesty here.

Not surprised to hear you are INTJ Bytemaster, not in the least. ;)
Of course I'm ENFP, surprising no one. http://www.16personalities.com/enfp-personality
I've always liked the meyers briggs test, and the enneagram is very insightful as well.

What can we do better in BTS land?  Lots of words starting with 'C'
Communicate, coordinate, collaborate, being the first three which spring to mind.  We're actually pretty good at these things already, relatively speaking, but here at the bleeding edge, we will have to do better.  I'm sure we can.

General Discussion / Re: BitShares 2.0 Roadmap (for the next 4-6 months)
« on: November 22, 2015, 03:37:10 pm »
What mechanism can we use to prioritize this? Predicition market? ;-)

I know we can make a short survey for free on surveymonkey.com . This way, we can poll on prioritization.

I've already done it. Should I post it here or make a new thread? I'm afraid people won't see it here now
I think a separate thread would be better. And once we have prioritization sorted out I'll amend the roadmap to reflect the results of the poll.

Or a separate one.. whatever works. ;)

I say do it here, make a post saying you've added it and @everyone who has participated in the thread thus far asking them to spread the word.  Also, as @Riverhead suggested here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20104.msg259604.html#msg259604 We need to facilitate counter proposals, and reach some mutual agreement.
Every consulting project, or worker proposal in our case, has defined terms. If you don't like CNX's offer then make a counter proposal that's agreeable to them and the community and try and get it voted in.

In business you don't get what you deserve you get what you negotiate.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Stealth Transfers Worker Proposal
« on: November 22, 2015, 03:32:03 pm »
though I'm also a little bit disappoint about the Cost 45k which I think the feature already exist in BTS0.x but now need to re-paid. I prefer to get this done ASAP because this is really important to the huge fund get into the system. huge fund don't want their operation display to the public.

Huge fund will likely develop a private chain and pay CNX to help them do it unless there is a compelling reason to join the public chain.

personally I don't care CNX get paid and this will be used to other projects because currently CNX is the bitshares.

Exactly. While it looks like CNX makes all the money and takes none of the risk keep in mind that consulting firms live and die by their reputation. As much as Bitshares is their lab it is also the flagship in their portfolio. Every consulting project, or worker proposal in our case, has defined terms. If you don't like CNX's offer then make a counter proposal that's agreeable to them and the community and try and get it voted in.

In business you don't get what you deserve you get what you negotiate.

Well said Riverhead.. words to live by.  Although my brain doesn't generally work like this, (get what you negotiate) it's a reality we must contend with.

So the 1,000,000 BTS question is, would anyone like to come forward with a counter-proposal for any of the CNX worker proposals? serious counter proposals only, this is not the place for satire.  Start a new thread referencing the OP proposal if you think it best.
