General Discussion / Re: Strange behavior of the trading platform
« on: July 16, 2015, 09:42:24 pm »
thanks for the explanation for the imprecise short order amounts that are being executed; that makes sense, even though it's not exactly ideal.

the margin call invisible buyer concept doesn't make sense to me, since it seems as though they should be executed at any available price; since we have an entire order book on the sell side just sitting there at higher prices, it just doesn't add up. unless these buy orders at set to trigger at the margin call amount, but are not shown in the order book?

That's the most plausible explanation, but it would do no harm having a confirmation of that. The 10% penalty is no more, so it won't be bought back at any price.

It's not expired shorts, but much more probably margin calls that are the invisible buyers. I would love to have an exact description of the market behavior... but apparently nobody wants to document that. It's quite upsetting, I really hope that BTS 2.0 will be documented in the finest details.

The fact that you don't effectively short the amounts you input comes from the fact that you short at a price over the price feed, and the collateral, computed automatically based on the price feed, is only sufficient for the amount that is finally shorted. It's extremely confusing, but "it's a feature, not a bug".

General Discussion / Re: Announcing Brownie Points (BROWNIE.PTS)
« on: July 04, 2015, 02:02:51 pm »
Bytemaster, I bet you have more important things to do than tracking who earns your favor. If finally the BROWNIE.PTS will have real value (by being sharedropped upon), then their distribution should be quite fair and systematic, otherwise it will only be a dividing factor later. If BROWNIE.PTS do not have value, then I wonder why you would take so much time trying to evaluate who deserves them.

Smartcoins?

Although BitShares and its SmartCoins™ can be sent and traded just like bitcoins, Bitshares’ open platform offers a range of innovative features, all of which have boundless trading options on the Bitshares network in the form of SmartCoins™

And it's official : http://bitshares.github.io/technology/price-stable-cryptocurrencies/  :(
Urgh, seeing the "TM" there is not very pleasant. And that's an ugly name we'll have to accommodate with. I guess that the legal copyright BS had to happen at some point.

General Discussion / Re: BTer deposit issues, growing concern

24+ hours, got a reply 6 hours ago they would look into it, and now this ...

That's frightening... I guess there are 2 possible explanation :
1) there is so much new money flowing in they can't keep up with the deposits
2) it's the biggest altcoin pumping scam orchestrated by 1 or more centralized exchanges

Are there reasons to be optimistic about this issue ? Until this is resolved, I'm back to bearish..

Wow one piece of vague news makes you guys orgasm... I'm all for bts rising, but take off the rose glasses.

Seriously you don't think it is suspicious that the price rallied 100% one week before this was announced?
It is more suspicious that all btc38 "powered" coins are pumped and now the deposit/withdrawal are "problematic".... What if they are buying/pumping  all coins with thin air only to attract more BTC deposits?

Sent from my ALCATEL ONE TOUCH 997D

That's a very plausible explanation of what's happening with all those crazy pumps... I really hope it's false, but I'm covering all my shorts...

Dear community, please keep us aware of what's the situation with BTC deposts at btc38 and bter... Maybe the causal relation is in the other way round, and that because too much people want to deposit they cannot keep up or something like that, but it's really concerning...

So I'm guessing all the front running has been done by this entity.  Now at least we know why the price has rallied so hard.

lulz, so many post proclaiming one entity is responsible for the rise. don't marginalize muh (or anyone elses) bts purchases man.   :P

pretty sure i, and many others, did a bit of lifting of our own over the past few weeks. personally, i've tripled up muh bitshares hodlings (thanks!).

I know everyone is excited about this and I agree that it is great news.  The price action before this announcement is very fishy.  Granted I'm happy for you guys who got in before the rise, but unless you were in the know it was all luck.

A big rally before a news announcement is going to draw unwanted and negative attention, especially if we dump in the next couple days.  Its the definition of insider trading and if this kind of stuff continues we will have regulators (SEC, consumer protection, FBI) down are throats in no time.

Still it is a monumental day for bitshares

No, all or almost all the recent buying was just us in the community thinking the price was too cheap and had bottomed and would rally.  The increase was based on having hit a bottom, then stabilized, then the moving averages and MACD turning positive.

This news has NOT been priced in yet.  (Of course, buy the rumor sell the news....maybe whales will sell the news for a bit, who knows.  But this news is VERY good and BTS should head much higher).

This community has thought bts was cheap and should rally when the market cap was at 50 mil, 40mil, 30mil, 20 mil, 10 mil.  Hundreds of thousands  of dollars was being done each day for the last week.  That crushes the average volume. I highly doubt the buyer(s) was someone in this community waiting on a MACD crossover

Well... the whole crypto market went up, DogeCoin had the same jump. Some chinese investors might have bought back.

But on the other side, insider trading is always possible. Unless some people have been recorded giving insider hints, I never got how anyone could ever prove definitively that insider trading occurred (why did you buy at this very moment ? "Because I felt like buying at this time" will always seem a good justification to me...). It seems quite hard to prevent it in cryptoworld.. that's a frightening problem

because I'm still bearish (just when price goes up.. I've been almost 100% wrong all the way down, now I'm wrong again on the way up).

Why be bearish now?  As soon as it goes up a bit more, giving us a higher high and higher low, or holds this level a bit longer and the daily moving average crossover happens, no one is going to want to sell any BTS.  Silly time to be bearish. ;)

Obviously I'm not bearish anymore when I see a +8% on CMC :). I also may just not understand the whole implications of "bear". I assume it means you believe that the price will go down in the short time, which I did... But I didn't act as a rational bear selling everything. I just happened to have bought some bitAssets at the low.

But if really the price will go up, then why is there so few shorts ? I'm pretty sure that as soon as I'll start shorting again, we'll have a 30-days downtrend :D

I understand that bitusd holders may want the security and don't want to sell their bitusd even at 200,100,50,30,1..That is fair enough...

What I don't understand is why someone will pay now +10% to buy bitusd to cover? Is it because i.e. someone can start dumping BTS like crazy on the external exchanges, manipulate the market and trigger margin calls? I really can't think of anything else..If that is the case and something like that happens at these levels then...we might as well go back to buy some earthcoins, or worldcoins etc..BTS will become worthless..

Relative orders obviously is a must.
I have no idea of how the cover orders behave right now, and even less in the future (for example, in what orders will they be covered ?). If the new 17000 lines of code thing is full of bugs/doesn't deliver for any reason, and the price crashes again, I certainly don't want my BTS to be locked.

And yes, I'm a bit paranoid of a whale attack. 70000 bitUSD in cover orders, that must be around 70000 * 200 * 3 = 42 millions BTS locked. With 26 bitBTC and 400 bitSILVER, that makes more than 50 millions. I have the impression it's possible to get a large portion of those by manipulating the price, but maybe I'm completely wrong on that. So yes, I'm willing to buy over price feed (not 10% though), because I'm still bearish (just when price goes up.. I've been almost 100% wrong all the way down, now I'm wrong again on the way up).

Actually, I wasn't sure before today that I could still manually cover the expired shorts. In my mind I could not, that's stupid, I should have asked.

70000 bitUSD are now waiting to cover. If a whale came and shut the BTS price down, all the collateral of those 70000 bitUSD and of all the other bitAssets waiting in cover orders could be collected.

Nobody seems to care, but I have the feeling that we'll go down again soon if nobody addresses that problem. Isn't there anybody here that could tell me why I shouldn't worry of all those cover orders accumulating ?

cause we're moving to bitassets 2.0?

There was no clear announcements that bitAssets 1.0 would be converted into bitAssets 2.0. Actually the contrary was announced initially. (Did I miss something ?). The problem is only made worse.

yes you missed a lot.  nothing is getting converted.  But functional improvements like bitassets 2.0 should PREVENT  the price of BTS from dropping.

Hahahaha. I've been around for 9 months and all kinds of things were sure fire gonna prevent the price of BTS from dropping for all that time.
Having tens of millions of BTS locked in cover orders at the mercy of a big whaling doesn't look very preventable to me, especially not by a new, untested feature that will many people angry.

and by the way I have also another concern..

When will the expired short orders will be filled and the BTS collateral will be released? Are these filled in order of expiry when someone is buying Bitusd at price feed? Does this mean that in order for all the expired orders to release collateral bitusd should fall below usd? What happens if bitusd never falls below usd because of small orders above the bitusd usd peg? Will the collateral from the expired orders remain blocked forever? Can I cover my self one of my expired order somehow?

Same concern here.

I like most new ideas from bytemaster, but it always feel like the dev team doesn't care to be just to people who have invested their energy in the current state of the system. Shorters have suffered immensely, and now bitAssets 1.0 will have to be abandoned...
