General Discussion / Re: Why I learned to Stop Worrying and Love Sparkle
« on: November 27, 2014, 10:26:25 pm »
Does the BitShares team know sparkles personally ? He is new to the community : why is he given so much confidence ? Did he deliver a great product ? Did he bring great ideas (behind "he put back proof of work when we finally got rid of it") or did anything to deserve the support he is shown by all the leading developers ?

I really don't get why we are supposed to "love" any project that respects the social consensus. Respecting the social consensus is not a proof a project is great. Please focus marketing on BitShares before getting sparkle an onramp and fully support it. "BitShares fully support proof of waste", come on, that's bad.

Just withhold your precious bodily fluids. Whatever you do, don't hand those over!

LOL. I'd definitively buy Larimer spermCoins (I guess that's rude, sorry ! But those genes need to spread !)

I'd guess that's an inside joke, based on BM's title for this thread. The movie was "Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb". If you haven't seen it, do. The crazed general in the movie is concerned with retaining his precious bodily fluids, amongst other obsessions.

Thanks for the explanation, I shall cultivate myself !

I like the "Proof of Waste" so much. I'm all in Bitshares because of your great discussion on the unsustainability of mining. If this is the main story the BitShares community tells to attract people, and at the same time we support a PoW project, it makes the message incoherent. And if we have to mitigate the message just because someone who doesn't believe it happens to respect the social consensus, then it does hinder our power (and even our freedom of speech !).

But the OP is definitely very wise.

My original objection was that Sparkle was trying to poach the already very limited developer and other talent away from BitShares to his own project and doing so on our forum at our expense. And diluting our efforts doing so for a doomed (POW) project (and diluting our "Proof of Waste" meme).

However, your post has gone a long way to mitigating my concerns. Thank you.

Poloniex does not have the 1% fee, but the price seems to generally be a little bit higher. Volume is much lower. And many people here reported issues with withdrawal from poloniex (for me, it worked very well, and I had very good customer service). But it's a good idea to check poloniex, since the price lags sometimes, you may have good deals !

Muse/SoundDAC / Re: Can burned Artist Coins be distributed to Note holders?

Won't artist coins be bought in NoteUSD ? People will speculate and trade artist coins, that can make a lot of money...

I don't see value in a PoW BitShares, but I see a competitor. I speak for myself, I'm not that much invested into the social consensus anyway, since I've not been here early enough in AGS/PTS. And from my purely BTS point of view, this is not a friendly project, just a new thing that will murky the water and the message if it is labeled as a BitShares project.

That's not a threat or anything, and I sincerely wish you good luck. I just happen to believe that this project brings no value, and I express myself here because I don't like how criticism is criticized.

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares still unknown
« on: November 21, 2014, 12:10:22 am »
I noticed that on other bitcoin/crypto currency forums Bitshares hardly ever gets mentioned, and most people still don't even know about Bitshares yet. Just an observation.

Don't remind us....

Why do you think it's a bad thing ? I love the fact that we are unknown now, it makes me feel like I've found a gem. And it's mainly when you invest at that time of maturity of a product that you can make much money.

If we are still unknown when the marketing campaign is out, THEN it's a huge problem. But for now I'm actually so happy with that, when I think about it

General Discussion / Re: Ethercoin up 4533.49 %?!?! $ 32.63!
« on: November 18, 2014, 11:29:37 pm »
At one moment tomorrow ethercoin will be down ~4533%, probably worth a snapshot :D

I don't understand what you're afraid of fuzzy, you can't create value from thin air. If ethereum was at some point valued at $32 billion, in 10 seconds people will sell the shit out of it (and who would ever buy at that price??). And going down 1000% in minutes would propably not make a good publicity stunt

I still don't see how PTS 2.0 can make any sense/have any value.

This decision seem to both enable PTS 2.0 (no more huge stake of I3 that would have too much voting power) and undermine it (the new PTS 2.0 must now be post november 5th snapshot, which does not represent well the real founders anymore, since many PTS were sold - or is that false ?).

I hope that the real reasons behind this will be revealed soon, as well as the reasons behind the form of this murky revelation : playing the interpretation game is a waste of time, and this thread gives a very bad impression.

General Discussion / Re: AGS to be allocated 10% in PLAY Dac.
« on: November 11, 2014, 09:36:59 pm »
In my opinion, dropping 20% to BTS is the new social contract, and PTS and AGS holders ought receive no more. If they do, then it's a favor they are given. So, you should stop bitching.

I know there was a snapshot on 11/5. I know that there will only be BTS. However when I was reading I didn't come across anything warning me that PTS price would plummet fore good and that I should sell them all either before the snapshot and buy BTSX or right after the snapshot. All I read was that I would receive BTS for the PTS in my wallet. Incorrectly and naively I assumed that PTS just wouldn't be traded anymore as it wouldn't exist. I have lost thousands by holding my PTS. Why would anyone hold them and why would anyone buy them after the snapshot? I have to say that this whole thing has become a clusterfuck. Names and shares constantly changing, DAC's existing but being abandoned and becoming worthless, airdrops, conversions and rate changes, wallet files needing to be imported or not imported to get shares etc. I have NO idea what the hell this is all about anymore nor what even the name of this thing is I'm invested in as it constantly changes. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone explain to me in somewhat simple terms exactly what is going on. Thank you.

From an outsiders point of view, it is confusing. I run a crypto group with around 3600+ people, and I can assure you that most don't understand this, at all, so they are very wary of it. They ask me to explain it, but frankly I don't want to risk giving them some bad advice, so I tell them to just go here and figure it out for themselves. It might be simple for some traders, but compared to just buying Bitcoin, it isn't.

I don't own any, and I am not even sure which one I should be buying or dropping as I have not been paying enough attention. It just appears too much like a game of Three-Card Monte. That said, I think the tech and ideas are fascinating. However, I am more concerned about the marketing and investors getting burned for not understanding it well enough. That is why I don't recommend it much, yet.

Why would anyone invest/trade on something he doesn't take time to understand... if you just randomly chose things to throw money at just based on the market cap, you shouldn't be very surprised to have surprises.

I agree it's really time consuming to follow what's happening here, but it's not even officially released. The merger was a correction on the direction to take, and it was based on an excellent analysis of what would happen in the future if it didn't happen. People that didn't agree with this analysis sold, hence the recent big drop in price. Now the developers and marketers can focus on a very clear product, that will be pushed in the next weeks/months.

Some people (i.e. alphaBar) spread some confusion and make the message very unclear, that's sad, but it should be over soon when the leading team pushes the new unified product.
