PTS hasn't changed. Just 3I' s promotion of it and involvement in 3rd party DACs.

The perception of the community is that without 3I's on going endorsement it is worthless.

My feeling is that the ProtoShare is just starting to come into its own. As BTS grows and becomes successful more and more 3rd party DACs will want in on the action. The promise, or selling point, of PTS was always, "Get a piece of every DAC that honors the social contract". So far there has been a handful of DACs that have honored it and everyone is ready to call it, "Mission accomplished".

Anyway, there is a project going on to convert PTS to a DPoS coin here: http://pts.cubeconnex.com/index.php?topic=13.0

Since this is the Bitshares forum, and not a forum for DACs or ProtoShares in general, I suspect the PTS crew will get run off sooner than later.

If PTS still perfectly represent the early donations and the social contract, then PTS holders shouldn't have received any diluted BTS during the merger... And many were sold at very low prices with the expectation that they don't have value anymore, so it is quite absurd to say that it still represents the same thing.

It's sad expectation management is not taught at school  :D. I have been crypto obsessed for 2 months now, and already invested more than I should have... but I see it as a "50% probability I'll lose everything I invested, 50% I'll get rich". Every new info I get, every mumble session or hint by BM or Brian grow my confidence in it. I don't trade, I just stockpile.

1$ per BTS in the next two years would be +5000% at current price... that's a hell of an investment, and it's completely plausible. I'll consider myself rich at 1$ :).

A vrai dire, je serai très intéressé par écrire des articles sur les Bitshares. Il y a vraiment peu d'informations en français, c'est dommage, ça vaut sans doute le coup. Suite en mp, à bientôt j'espère :)

You cannot change your username, but theoretically you should always be able to create a new account. However, it might be better to completely uninstall the bitshares client and start over than having multiple accounts. You will have no problem finding a donator here.

Clearly the wallet is not practical at all at the present time, that's why it's not even an official release (v 0.4.23, still a beta !), and the devs are very aware of how it's hard to register and how it will hinder adoption : it has been debated here in the forum, and the main concern before starting the marketing push is to make the wallet use slick.

PTS still alive = more confusion and less people focused on a single product. That's not good for marketing.
I don't really care about PTS being kept alive, AlphaBar can do what he wants to, but by doing so it's obvious to me that he goes against the interests of BTS holders. PTS has nothing of value to offer now : 1) it doesn't represent the founders anymore (since so many people sold them), and 2) it has no useful functionality. If I am wrong on these 2 points, I'd be happy to reconsider. But if PTS don't represent people that helped build the ecosystem anymore, then they don't mean anything, and should be worthless.

In my point of view, the only reason alphaBar tries to keep PTS alive is an investment bet : he wants to earn some more money with his PTS and the one he probably bought at low price - money that, in my point of view, he doesn't deserve, as the BTS allocation already made PTS holders whole. I cannot see how maintaining a useless coin can generate any value for the community.

And I haven't even sold my PTS, assuming they would have no value after november 5th. I'll be happy to sell them if the price comes back up.

Hold. 2 possible outcomes on the medium-long run :
1) BTS is successful, price goes to 1$ or more. Happy, whatever the buying price
2) BTS is not successful. It's basically worthless. Unhappy.

5000, 6000 or even 12000 satoshi doesn't really matter.

AlphaBar knows what he is doing, and he knows that this hurts BTS. My guess is that he wants to make money on buying cheap PTS and making people that were unhappy with the merger come back toward his new PTS.
This is clearly hurting the community, but who really believes he has some real developers able to maintain and upgrade PTS... this story will be over soon, we shall just ignore him.

My solution to the same problem.....a label.  That's it.  "Here's your temporary id, this is why you need it, and this is what to do with it." Cost? Trivial.

The hash isn't the problem.  The lack of user friendliness is.  Where is the help screen that explains things like how voting works?  Why is this not there yet? Is it reasonable to assume that the user should leave the app and have to google the forums for help? Absolutely not.  File Menu -> Help -> Dialog Box -> Label.  That's it.  I know the new UI is coming, so it may not do much now, but this type of stuff should have been there 3 months ago. I will be extremely disappointed if I'm using the new UI and have questions that can't be answered inside the app itself.  I know I must not be alone on this.

You are perfectly right. What is cool is that the community as a whole can try to contribute on this, we just have to find how to organize (who?) and implement it (google doc ?). It isn't really the job of the developers to create this help : they have more crucial things to do, and they are so plunged in their stuff that they cannot see what new users experience.
