General Discussion / Re: Now it a good time to buy some bitCNY
« on: September 21, 2015, 04:56:03 pm »
If you think that USD will go down (and that you think that BTS will increase), you should rather short BitUSD (at considerable premium !) than buy BitCNY (and be disappointed if BTS keeps raising). Plus, shorting BitUSD would help getting closer to the peg, which would be nice for Bitshares' reputation.

Come on guys, shorting is working very well, and has no reason not to in Bitshares 2.0, don't be shy. When you short your money is in good, automated trustless hands  :).
But you should try shorting with some little amounts first in order to get the feel of it. Importantly, shorts over the price feed *seem* to short a wrong amount of BitAssets : you don't short the number you ask for shorting, because the collateral put is based on price feed, and when you short over price feed, there is not enough collateral to guarantee the number of bitAssets you write down. That still works however, but look at the collateral amount rather than the bitAssets amount.

You can short over price feed and so have some free money even if BTS don't climb... at the condition that the peg will hold one day, which he'll very probably do in 2.0. Even now, I'm quite confident that the peg mechanism is not bad. Shorters have not much risk except margin call, which is hopefully unlikely now.

And you can have a 30% premium on BitBTC now !!

I have nothing against our rise in price but shouldn't we have a correction? Every time I check it the price is higher, it just doesn't stop

when price go up by the stairs is difficult to fall by a lifter hole.

traders start to be conscient about the power of 2.0 looks like nobody want to loose the train.

i heard China markets are not buying.
It's 4 a.m. in Beijing !

+20% today now... I'm breathless, following the crazy action in poloniex. I don't even trade, just hodling and watching it happen... Wow.

Globally I'm still in the red however  :D, but it sure feels good. Hope the correction won't be too harsh, I really don't feel like selling and trying to by lower.

Yes, some nice "profits" (hopefully) to be made by shorting BitUSD (and some BitBTC) well over the price feed ! This rise is amazing :)

The problem is that current rules for shorting are just too complicated and/or not properly lined out somewhere  + barely working wallet + 30 day expiration thingy. I have high hopes for 2.0 in this regard.

Personally I would like to short some bitEUR but due to said reasons I just find it too risky currently.

I don't know for the windows wallet, but the Mac wallet works perfectly, and I have been successfully shorting without problems for a year now. The 30 day expiration is not a problem at all since nobody shorts at price feed anyway. Some behaviors are weird (when you short over price feed you don't actually short the amount of BitAssets that was indicated, but the amount that the indicated collateral can afford)

At the protocol level, the shorting mechanism works very well. The only risk is a new crash in BTS price.

I would happily short some (at 20% over price feed :D) ,  but most of my BTS are already stuck on the blockchain as collateral. No, it's really sad that almost nobody wants to short, even 10-15% over price feed.

According to this article : https://bitshares.org/blog/2015/06/08/migrating-to-bitshares-2.0/, "All open orders will be canceled prior to the snapshot and their funds returned to their owners.". It's a bit old already, but I guess it's still valid.

Regarding BitAssets and short positions :
"Because the new chain is a simple migration and should retain all the same “perceived value”, we can migrate all BitAssets and short positions. The snapshot date will be announced with 30 days notice so that any shorts that do not like the new BitAsset system can voluntarily exit. To ease your migration we recommend that everyone upgrade to BitShares 0.9.1 prior to the snapshot date and transfer 100% of every asset balance to yourself. This will consolidate your balances under a single account."

("transferring every asset to yourself" here means not keeping them on external exchanges)

Excuse me? Watch your fucking mouth.

Well, you obviously "didn't deliver" last time, so you may need to be a bit more convincing of your honesty than just being insulting.  You clearly act like a pumper, with stupid one liners.

Technical Support / Re: What happened to the 30 million BTS

FMV is an exciting project, and if it works it WILL bring huge value to BitShares. If it doesn't, that's too bad, but it won't kill BitShares.
Giving 30 millions shares to Adam without asking guarantee in return was a mistake, but it was done during the merger and BitShares already paid the price for that. It's stupid and hurtful to bring that again, there is nothing to be done about it.

General Discussion / Re: Ethereum price discussion
« on: September 11, 2015, 08:14:57 pm »
Wow, ETH getting wrecked.  Shouldve held my earlier short, but had to cover it a while back at a small loss.  Oh well.

I wonder if bytemaster answering that reddit post had anything to do with it.

No it didnt.  It happened earlier on.
Someone dumped and it caused someone with 270 btc worth of margin long to get liquidated.  The guy was bitching at the polo mods earlier about how it dumped in a market order.  What did he expect it to do?

The guy said his account was frozen and it caused his position to liquidate. So it seems that it was an involuntary dump. So I bought a lot at 400k, pretty confident that it would go back up fast... which didn't happen yet. I don't understand markets, but it was quite interesting to follow... I just really hope that ethereum will be back to 460k/470k soon so that I can close that position, I think ethereum is overevaluated, but not in the short time.

General Discussion / Re: Bitgold as investment
« on: September 10, 2015, 11:53:15 am »
It's really interesting to read all your answers, thank you for that. Meanwhile, I still have to study Bitshares a bit more, I still don't get that "pegged" method. I have understood that it's better to wait for BTS 2.0 and then buy some BitGold.
Another question pops up then: is it best to buy Bitshares now (while they are cheaper) and exchange them for BitGold in the 2.0 client?

When you buy BitGold, you "lose" money if BTS goes up compared to the price of gold, so yes, if you think that BTS will go up in the next weeks, you should buy BTS now, wait until the price goes up, and then buy BitGold. Buying BitGold is selling BTS for gold.

It will be easier in 2.0, because the peg should be better with the new mechanism, now if you buy bitAssets you have to buy them at a higher price than the market price.

22.4 Millions

And the really big rise will happen when BTS 2.0 delivers. Hopefully. I'm not that optimistic but I can't wait for seeing it !
