General Discussion / The Apple 'think different' campaign for Bitshares
« on: January 16, 2015, 03:30:27 pm »
I saw this image on the facebook page:

Which made me think of the apple 'think different' campaign, which was one of their most sucsessful advertising campaigns.

Could we do something similar for Bishares. Where we have famous people with their quotes and have a tiny Bitshares logo in the corner.

Thoughts?

General Discussion / Subtitles for bitshares.tv
« on: December 19, 2014, 09:10:25 am »
Youtube allows for the options of selecting subtitles.
Can we add Chinese subtitles to the Bitshares.tv videos for our Chinese community.

Also the video quality is not great. I have put it on max quality but not amazing. Ok now will go and watch.

I have written a white paper on producing financial metrics for Bitcoin.
I drew on many of the ideas from Daniel and Stan Larimer's ideas on thinking about virtual currencies as being DACs. I then tried to use this concept to produce common financial metrics which analysts would normally want to work with.

It shows many of the unsustainable issues Bitcoin has. If the same metrics are used to analyse the DACs the Bitshares community produces we will see much healthier financial state of these DACs compared to Bitcoin.

I'm sure the community will be able to think about this in a more advanced manner than what I have put together, however I hope this paper is interested and helpful.

General Discussion / lets get bitUSD on coinmarketcap.com
« on: September 16, 2014, 08:37:54 pm »
Please make out requests for bitUSD to be placed on coinmarketcap.com
The link for the form is:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IZf5cBivam_93zENT_arFFuvWDidHGjWxoTMVmFSoWg/formResponse

It should show up at around position 50. It would be cool to see the dollar price for a bitUSD as being $1. I'm sure that would attract a lot of attention  :D

Technical Support / How to back up BitsharesX wallets on Mac

I'm asking?
Copied the wallet folders, but this is obviously very different from the usual wallets.
Thanks in advanced.

General Discussion / A Bitshares-x wallet for Zimbabwe
« on: August 26, 2014, 09:30:05 pm »
I believe we need a very simple wallet (or wallet UI) which caters to users who are only looking to accept and transfer bitUSD.
Something that simply has the balances and contacts list.
Such a wallet would be useful for persons in countries with volatile/deflationary currencies who are using simple mobile based value transfer services.
We need to provide a product that competes with M-pesa (this is a massive market).

General Discussion / value of bitUSD
« on: August 19, 2014, 07:36:53 am »
If bitUSD pays a dividend of 5% per year and fees from speculators (not covering their short positions in the event of a margin call) go to holders of bitAssets; then wont the value of say a single bitUSD be equal to more than one USD.

I would think this would be a very bad thing as we would want a derivative asset that most accurately tracks the real world asset. Otherwise we would need to use exchange rate calculators etc when making purchases in bitUSD because we would first want to convert the price back to USD. I would enjoy a world where one can just look at the dollar price of something and then pay in bitUSD because the values are almost exactly pegged.

Usually when I give my 2millibit its because I'm missing something. What am I missing here.

General Discussion / blockchain based supporting applications for DACs
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:09:18 pm »
Would it be possible to create blockchain based support applications which are integrated with the core of DAC. Im just thinking out aloud here.

For example, a decentralized application which functions as a 2-factor authentication for BitsharesX. When you want to enter your client, the client sends a cross-chain message to the application. You then have to confirm your identity with the application (a client you may be running on your phone).

General Discussion / any particular reason the PTS price jumped by 20%
« on: August 02, 2014, 09:16:39 am »
Cant find anything on the forums about it but it is quiet a sudden and high jump

I havnt been finding the time to keep up with the forums very well.
I own PTS and AGS before the Feb snapshot, I have also purchases some BTX recently which I am holding on an exchange.
I have not yet 'claimed' any of my BTX from AGS donations and PTS.

Is there anything that we need to do in prep for the launch of BitAssets?
Thanks

General Discussion / snapshot tracker
« on: July 25, 2014, 10:30:26 am »
Can we have a top level pinned thread which can inform everyone on future snapshops.
The thread should be locked to prevent clutter from commentary.
Thoughts?

General Discussion / Are we neglecting LottoShares?
« on: July 14, 2014, 10:24:09 am »
Yesterday I discovered that the LottoShares DAC is to be launched tomorrow (15th July).
And the awesome thing is that the DAC is honoring PTS and AGS 10% each.

But I could not find any information on LottoShares at the bitshares.org website nor was its forum threads readily available on from the Bitsharestalk.org website (one has to go into 'alternative DACs'. I only stumbled on the lottoshares thread per chance and then read up on it.

For a DAC that is honoring PTS and AGS it looks like the Bitshares community has not done its part to market and publicize the DAC.

Please correct me if I am wrong on what I3's/Bitshare's involvement has been.

Perhaps a memorandum of understanding should be drawn up an honored for every DAC that honors the AGS and PTS with 10% each of the DAC share supply.
Things like:
link on front page of bitshares website to DAC's promotional website,
a newsletter sent out to the Bitshares mailing list concerning the DAC and notifying about snapshot,
certain number of free consultation hours with a member from I3/the Bitshares community etc

It would be important to show DAC builders the power of honoring the AGS/PTS.

I would like to take a moment to say a huge thank you to the I3 team and the Bitshares community. We are quick to complain when things dont go exactly our way but we are all sticking around and there are a few good reasons for that.

Thank you for innovation after innovation. In a space that is only a few years old and where many programmers I know have no idea what Bitcoin is, *surprising actually, here we have a team of people who fully understand the blockchain innovation and its potential.

It is also fantastic that early adopters are able to invest and become stakeholders in the new technology. Every time I come across some extra money that I want to invest I cannot find a better company to invest in, and I would sent a bit of cash to angel shares.

I love the openness I3 uses when communicating with the Bitshares stakeholders. I3 has completely turned the concept of company hierarchy and patents and proprietary knowledge and copyright on its head! They have shown the power of a community and the power of working together on open source work. The strange part is that they have worked out how to make all of this sustainable and profitable. Revolutionary!

Thank you for the time and communication you have given to each member of the community. When I just started taking an interest in I3, I would keep bothering Stan with emails asking what now seams like very rookie questions. I also sent PMs and emails to Daniel. Each and every time I would get a personal response, and for people who I know are so busy that meant a lot to me. I have also worked with Brian on some tasks and he too was accessible and cool to talk to.

I have spent many evenings sitting at the fireplace deep in thought about innovation and the constantly changing world. I have always wanted to be a part of a great movement and on the forefront of world change and innovation. Being a part of the Bitshares community gives me that chance.

The services that BitsharesX will be able to provide the world will come with an immense amount of public good. It will provide stable banking services to the very poor, it will allow for increased access for all to markets, it will free people in countries with strict currency regulation to name a few benefits that stand out to me.

Thank you for pushing this industry forward at an accelerating pace and for all the time and energy you have sacrificed for the community.
I am sure the above speaks to the thoughts of many members of this community and not just my own.
