Technical Support / Re: !!! Stupid Questions Thread !!!
« on: February 07, 2016, 03:03:09 pm »
Hi there,
I am trying to export wallet files for importing into openledger.
I looking to import a .dat protoshares wallet/angelshares wallet into 0.9.3c and then export the .json file as instructed below:
http://docs.bitshares.org/bitshares/migration/howto-exporting-wallet.html

I am using Ubuntu (used it before and worked fine). I am downloading the 0.9.3c from https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-0.x/releases
for some reason when selecting 'file' and then 'import' the browser is unable to 'see' the .dat files.

What might I be doing wrong. Any help here would be super awesome. Thanks!
The wallet dat files are handled differently. Sorry for not atating it clearly.

You need to do this:
- create an account in bts0.9.3c (no need to "register" it)
- go into the account details ...
- import key ...
- pick your wallet.dat file an passphrase
you should now see your funds and can export your wallet for bts2
Thanks for getting back to me.
created an account in 0.9.3c, imported an AGS wallet.dat file and entered the password.
It said the keys were successfully imported.

I then exported a .json wallet.
But when trying to import the wallet to openledger it gave me the following error "Please use a BTS 1.0 wallet_export_keys file instead"
I downloaded 0.9.3c from here https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-0.x/releases/download/bts%2F0.9.3c/bitsharesGUI-0.9.3c-linux-x86_64.tar.gz
I'm pretty sure thats the latest 0.9 version, so not sure whats going on.
Thanks for your help Xeroc  :)

I cannot locate the link.
Tried searching for it.
Is there any documentation or instructions on how to claim your BTS from earlier angelshares and protoshares?

cassified and cassic haha! Brilliant (:

Oh and yes mark. We did testing of PeerTracks and all it's features, playlist creation, song download, following artists, liking, searching, buying tokens, etc. All awesome and smooth! Just a few alignment bugs in the UI. Nothing major.
Now that we are integrating with MUSE, that testing will be coming up next.

cool
Very cool. Just make sure you dont have to pay Zukerberg anything for having a like button

I did a small raise of capital for stock in the PeerTracks company here in Canada because I had friends and family wanting to invest into PeerTracks itself.
Wouldnt you recommend they buy NOTES? Why would you prefer they direct their capital toward peer tracks instead of notes (aside from raising funds).

The probability of obtaining a bet to settle could be based on your percentage holding of the asset.
This could be 'gamed' where a large stake holder colludes with others who dispute the bet.
Perhaps some formula that takes both stake holding and reputation into account.

UIA holders colluding with other players is definitely possible, but this wouldn't be in the best interest of the asset holder.  It would damage the platform and make the associated UIA worth less, therefore hurting the holder.

I do like the idea of taking reputation into account, but it may add a layer of unnecessary complexity.  If the better was ever taken advantage of in your situation, he could always give negative feedback to both the player and UIA holder.  I would like to see an algorithm that randomly assigns the disputed bet judgement to a random UIA.  This would make the system very difficult to game.
The user would need to somehow indicate that they are available to settle (unlocked wallet?). And have a time period within which to act otherwise the bet moves to someone else to settle.

I find this interesting because it would be really nice to have a game that builds on bitshares. Any game. Something to make Bitshares fun. I think Bitshares is too way ahead of its time to be useful to many people.

Other alt coin didn't spend millions of dollars to "build features that adds values" . You can't seriously compare the downtrend with zero development shitcoins . Otherwise , you'll demonstrating that development did bitshares no good than other shitcoins .

Sometimes value is outside the control of things which are logical

Classic quote!  :)

Meme coins only have one life - they last as long as you can keep the meme going.

BitShares is a platform with as many lives as there are business models to be built on it.

Whenever I see a down day, I always remember this:  Are we better off now than we were when we started in 2013?

If we were willing to start a new business back then with nothing but Bitcoin to build on, how much more willing are we to start a new business today with the BitShares platform and community and team and experience to build on?  How much less does it cost to start a business with all that infrastructure in place than it did when we had nothing?

So, from our perspective, we can now do exciting new things with 10% of the resources it took to do the first one.  And so can everyone else with a vision.  Each can have its own brand and business model at a fraction of the startup costs.

As a general purpose platform, BitShares is obviously much more useful and lower risk today than it was back when it was just a white paper.

Those are the First Principles behind BitShares' ultimate value.

Would we decide to invest again?  Yes!  Several times a year for the foreseeable future.
+5%
Some very good points!
Its almost too easy to come up with a crazy, industry shattering business ideas that builds ontop of Bitshares. Its a case of more entrepreneurs needing to discover the tools. And the regulatory stuff gets people scared. And its confusing, I've pitched some ideas to investors and a VC. They lost interest because they said it sounds risky and they dont really know what I'm talking about haha.

Hi there,

I have been trying to get 0.9.3c up and running (using windows).
Been trying for over a day now and have the following error: "Severe network problems | Not connected"

Any suggestions? thanks.
That error will NOT disappear simply because the network has been taken down :)
If you see your funds, you are good to go and can make a proper backup as discribed in the migration guide.
Do you see all your funds?
Thanks Xeroc!
You are a life saver!
Got it all sorted now.

I was really starting to worry that I may have to try and explain to the gf that I lots my christmas present savings on the blockchain

I was given this message when trying to import my wallet: "Please use a BTS 1.0 wallet_export_keys file instead"
When I looked at the tutorial on how to export wallet files, it shows that I did exactly what I was supposed to.

I have been using this tutorial:
http://docs.bitshares.eu/migration/howto-importing-wallet.html

Did you use 0.9.3c for the export? If not, install 0.9.3c and export again. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
Hmmm 0.9.3c is not working (running linux).
I'll try installing it on my windows computer at work (was just concerned about the security as its a network computer).
But at this point really just need to get my money out.

It was all my christmas present money that I was saving  :'(

About a week before the snapshot I made a wallet.json backup of my wallet.
A day before the snapshot I sent my bitshares held on exchanges to the account.

Do I need to need to install 0.9.3c and rescan  for the transaction and then export the new wallet for importing into the new 2.0 client.

Or can I just import into 2.0?

Thanks!
I have been trying to get my old wallet to sync, but cant.
Should I still try and import my wallet into the new web-wallet or will I defiantly loose my shares.

It was about $400 worth that I transferred a day before the snap-shot and I couldnt get the wallet to sync in time to make a new back up file.   :'(

Don't expect the old client to sync past block 3826650 - that's the last one that I have. If your head block is from Oct 13 you're probably good.

You can just import your old wallet into the web wallet and check if the balance is what you'd expect.
If not, ISTR that someone put up the old blockchain for download somewhere. Use that to sync your old client, the make a backup and import that again. You will not lose any shares as long as you keep backups of all your wallets.

I phrased that poorly. What I meant was use all of your voting power, but pick and choose what you want to vote on and what you want to use a proxy for. (For example, if I want to trust my proxies judgment for most matters, but I'd like to change their vote for a specific proposal, or perhaps hand pick a couple of witnesses)

That's currently not possible, but could be implemented of course. It would make the vote counting algorithm significantly more complicated though and would therefore probably cost a lot to get implemented, so I doubt it's going to climb very high on the priorities list.

Thanks, I'll give it a bash.

Is there a MUSE blockchain that can be explored/shares claimed on?
