General Discussion / Re: publish feed price automatic(From BitSuperLab)
« on: December 10, 2014, 01:50:20 pm »
Works for my delegate even if it's not in the top 101

https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/releases/tag/v0.4.25-RC1

-Inactive delegates can now publish price feeds

Is there are way to check if we are publishing feeds if we are not in 101. The script seems to be working fine, but nothing shows up in bitsharesblocks.

Is this person pulse mining as trogladactyl suggested earlier. Looking at where the system pauses(~3 min) from the difficulty rise, the first block after the pause comes from someone else, then this powerful miner fires back up again. Just a theory.

delegate.adam was voted on purpose, because someone didn't like the previous 101st delegate bts.coin, so he voted for adam to push bts.coin out of 101.

Now we just need to vote for some other active delegate, for example delo.cass. Then this issue will be resolved.

This is interesting! The solution *should* be for everyone to run multiple delegates by default on each node so that people can vote in "fillers". "Backbone" delegates should look into this.

While I think this would be helpful, I also think we should try to test out more new delegates. This would get us closer to a more robust solution then having multiple delegates on one node.

I think on top of voting out non publishing delegates we need to actively vote in delegates who have committed to publishing feeds. Could we maybe vote in one or two new delegates collectively every few days. We could even have a thread for trial delegate of the day or week or something like that. If they don't publish feeds we can vote them out after a few days, and if they do a good job, we keep them. It would allow us to try to address the issue without waiting for the ability of standby delegates to publish.

I think that not enough people view publishing feeds as a valuable service, almost like you need to be offering something above and beyond to be worth voting in. IMO a 3% delegate publishing feeds should be better than one that is not and a worthwhile improvement. I think there are a few people with delegates ready wanting to publish feeds if they can get voted in. Also, being able to publish feeds as a standby would be helpful, as a way to show you have the script ready.

I know it works if you scp the whole directory, but mira is probably right. I just never tried it.

As far as I know amazon offers one free instance of their lowest tier vps. It is not enough to compile on but you can compile at home(using similar os) and scp it to your vps. You have to send one or two extra files but you will get an error basically pointing to where it is. I'm not sure how it will hold up once the delegate is producing blocks.

You'll get my vote. You could also do 3% with a 2% proof of burn. That would leave you some margin to increase revenue if needed.

That is a good point. Although would it be harder to get an accurate vote on my pay increase if it doesn't involve switching one delegate for another?

On a side note. The feed script is ready to go, should I get voted in. I plan to post feeds for CNY USD BTC EUR and GOLD.

Do delegates pay a fee to to publish a price feed? and if so is it on fee per Asset (5 x fee per update for five assets) or can multiple asset feed updates be lumped into one transaction?(one fee per update for five assets) Thanks

By full node do you mean anyone running the bitshares client or is there some additional that need to be selected, closer to the setup of at delegate?

Help! For Step 5, When I hit vote, I get a popup which says "Are you sure? This will send xxxxxxxx BTS to (my name). It will charge a fee of 0.5 BTS.

I've never voted. Why do I have to send all my BTS to my self for a fee?

You can change the transaction fee to 0.1 BTS by clicking on Preferences on the left side of the window and changing the value there.

You have to send the entire account value to yourself because it allows the blockchain to store your voting data with the account balance data and essentially any time this data is changed you need a small fee(to prevent spamming and such).

Hope this helps

Exactly, initially the value would come primarily from the reduced price. Once I get the feeds up and running then value would come from additional service as well(as quite a few delegates are still not posting feeds). Additionally one could argue that an increase delegate diversity(if an init is replaced) could be added value, once my reliability has been established.
