General Discussion / Crazy idea, mass merchant adoption
« on: October 21, 2014, 03:56:19 pm »
What if bitshares grew big enough to buy bitpay?  Or another payment service?  Who would we want to buy to get mass merchant adoption of bitUSD/other bitasset?  With bitUSD being stable bitpay may actually be a poor choice (not sure) as part of their services would be useless, but what what about payment processors and the like.  If we will have the power to vote in additional shares to fund growth, a key area should be merchant adoption.  Maybe there are large payment processors who we can make deals with to aquire merchant adoption in big swoops.  Of course market cap has to grow considerably before this can be funded, I'm just thinking 6+ months down the line.  Maybe there are ways to piggy back on bitcoins merchant adoption without having to do the whole thing from scratch.  Will we need a small "in house"/"in DAC" (as oppose to external, bitpay) team dedicated to merchant adoption?

Edit:  This is just coming from my realization that if stakeholders can vote to allow delgates extra pay (dilution) then there's no reason bitshares can't buy out 'real world' companies is there? (other than needing to be big enough).

The Google translate doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but I'd quite like to know what they are talking about as it looks potentially somewhat important.

The Chinese section of bitsharestalk is very active, I wish the translations were better.

Technical Support / Market peg on third party exchanges
« on: September 25, 2014, 09:03:45 pm »
Am I correct in saying that on third party exchanges, such as bter.com which trade BTC/bitUSD the market peg is not in place as it's just a simple exchange, the same as any alt coin, and this is the cause of the unwanted volatility we have seen on bter?
https://bter.com/trade/BITUSD_USD

I had thought we want to have bitassets on as many exchanges as possible to increase demand and go to potential buyers, rather than having them come to us.

However, I'm now wondering if bitassets being added to third party exchanges could be harmful, as the market peg is not in place there, is it?  Or do we think the price on other exchanges will stay close enough to the decentralized exchange price for it to be worth the risk, after all it is still pretty stable on bter.  Or is the 'market peg' in place there in a way I am not understanding?

General Discussion / Random idea about bitUSD
« on: September 25, 2014, 04:20:02 pm »
Now that there is bitUSD this could be used to measure market cap of other coins/dacs and have new features or funds unlocked after enough growth.

Once a coin or dac reaches a certain market cap for a sustained period of time according to the bitUSD price in the decentralized exchange, that coin/dac could have new features or funds become unlocked.  Kind of like time-stamping, but rather than being released after a certain number of days or blocks, it could be released after a certain increase in market cap.

Not sure what this could be used for...

Technical Support / How much demand can the system handle?
« on: September 23, 2014, 08:22:58 am »
What happens if today someone wanted to buy $100,000 worth of bitUSD?  What about $1million or $10 million?

Technical Support / Bitshares X Quit Unexpectedly Mac 10.6.8
« on: September 20, 2014, 05:36:50 pm »
Hi,
I'm new to Bitshares X.  Just downloaded my first wallet from Dacsunlimited.com.  I'm on running Mac OS 10.6.8.  Tried to open the software a bunch of times but it just "Quits Unexpectedly" each time.

Hope this can be fixed!

Technical Support / Does demand for bitassets = demand for BTSX?
« on: September 18, 2014, 05:00:10 pm »
Hi,
Newbie to bitshares here, I'm gradually learning out how it works.

Is this basically true?

When someone buys a bitasset, they are effectively buying BTSX, denominated as their chosen bitasset and market pegged to the 'real word' value of the asset?  So bitassets are like a special type of BTSX, and buying them creates just as much demand for BTSX as buying BTSX directly does?  Therefore if speculating on bitassets become popular, BTSX price has a massive rise?

I'm not sure if this is right or not so please explain.
