General Discussion / Re: Poll about Bitshares-Bitcoin diversification.

I doubled my BTSX holding today up to 15%.  The other 85% is still in BTC.

I would like to see Bitshares become a full blown commodity exchange with things like beef, coffee, wheat, corn, cocoa, etc.

Now that would be a sight to behold... :0

The Google translate doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but I'd quite like to know what they are talking about as it looks potentially somewhat important.

The Chinese section of bitsharestalk is very active, I wish the translations were better.

Thought I'd end the madness by posing a simple question to them.

I've been reading though this very interesting thread where Charles Hoskinson voiced similar concerns as fussyhands about the focus of the developers on Bitshares-X vs other DACs, which makes me thing fussyhand's concerns are reasonable.

Is this volume correct/real?
http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/bitusd/#markets

It says there has been $77k volume on bitUSD

Surprisingly enough I believe it is. And was even higher yesterday.

Tomorrow - I do not know; in the 10-15K USD range is my best guess.

It was only $5k a couple days ago!

Explanation? Read the post just above yours.

If its caused by bytemaster doesn't that effectively make it artificial? Not 'natural' growth.
I never said 77K is the natural growth level as of today. You asked if it is correct. It was today..and yesterday.

Ok makes sense, thanks.

General Discussion / Re: Do we need a BitPay?
« on: September 26, 2014, 08:30:49 am »
I've been thinking that bitUSD, due to it's stability could spread much more easily than bitcoin.

It doesn't need a bitpay or coinbase to sell the bitUSD immediately for them to protect them from volatility risk, because there is none.  So they could accept it directly and hold onto it and pay their suppliers with it, who are much more likely to accept it than bitcoin due to the lack of volatility risk.  This can lead to a full bitUSD economy.

So unlike in bitcoin where merchant adoption creates downward pressure on the price, BTSX price would rise as merchant adoption increases, preserving the incentive structure.

However, I would imagine it would help if there was a payment processor to make it easy for retailors and suppliers to accept bitUSD, except this processor wouldn't need to do any selling of bitUSD to protect anyone from volatility risk.

I wonder if bitpay or coinbase would ever adapt their business to this.

Technical Support / Re: Market peg on third party exchanges
« on: September 25, 2014, 09:30:00 pm »
"market peg" is an abstract concept, not a market mechanic.

The market peg should hold across all exchanges. If there usd/bitusd is undervalued or overvalued on an external exchange, it means either there is an arbitrage opportunity or the peg is actually skewed.

Ok thanks.  I understand it's abstract and not market mechanics.  So centralized exchanges could become bitasset exchanges and it should still work.

It actually helps us significantly to have centralized exchanges allow trading of the direct asset.  It allows people "make the market" manually without having to provide a bot.  Just offer to buy BitUSD at 98 and sell at 100.

Ok great, just making sure, as I've been pitching bitassets to a bunch of exchanges.

Technical Support / Market peg on third party exchanges
« on: September 25, 2014, 09:03:45 pm »
Am I correct in saying that on third party exchanges, such as bter.com which trade BTC/bitUSD the market peg is not in place as it's just a simple exchange, the same as any alt coin, and this is the cause of the unwanted volatility we have seen on bter?
https://bter.com/trade/BITUSD_USD

I had thought we want to have bitassets on as many exchanges as possible to increase demand and go to potential buyers, rather than having them come to us.

However, I'm now wondering if bitassets being added to third party exchanges could be harmful, as the market peg is not in place there, is it?  Or do we think the price on other exchanges will stay close enough to the decentralized exchange price for it to be worth the risk, after all it is still pretty stable on bter.  Or is the 'market peg' in place there in a way I am not understanding?

General Discussion / Re: WSJ article.
« on: September 25, 2014, 06:13:16 pm »
rofl, the person had one job, to list one fact and blew it.

joke is on us though  :-\

Does wsj have a "corrections" or errata section? A spot where they mention inaccuracies in previous issues? We could probably get them to publish a correction. That way bitshares gets mentioned in 2 issues.

This piece one of the most impartial pieces about crypto I've ever seen in a major publication. Because it looks like the author actually did some due diligence instead of making up a bunch of crap, I sent him an e-mail letting him know all the points I saw in it that might be inaccurate or misleading. He expressed interested in writing a follow up article next week.

Nice work, I'm looking forward to reading it.
