I'm now in the process of converting 1/3 of my bitcoins to bitshares.  (Not ready to go all in because bitcoin is still so much larger and thus less risky. If bitshares is indeed better, then my holding of it will grow in time to surpass my bitcoin holdings).

I'm doing a similar thing, but bitshares can be superior and still fail, for example if enough momentum isn't captured via lots of marketing.  There's a lot to do in the next 6 months!

General Discussion / Re: Do we need a BitPay?

We need a coinbase like exchange for bitUSD to USD and other fiat first. I would love to do this, although, beyond registering as a Money Business and maintaining compliance in my state and with FinCEN, I have no clue how to create a website for that.

Developing a peer-2-peer transaction site will be helpful, or simply contact localbitcoins.com to see if they can add bitUSD.

Nice idea.  I see the domain http://localbitusd.com/ has been taken by a domain squatter.

It looks like it's still called BitGLD, is this going to be changed?
The genesis block is set in stone .. don't thing it will or can be changed.

Even if it was possible, you don't like bitGLD?

I've never been a trader of anything other than crypto so I'm far from an expert, but I would much prefer bitGOLD.  Everyone knows automatically what that is, it's virtual gold, obviously.  Dropping the "o" just seems pointless.  People have to then ask, 'what's bitGLD, does that stand for gold?'  Gold is short enough a word.  bitGOLD conjoures the image of gold, it's an awesome name, bitGLD is a step away from the actual thing, an abstraction.  One of the great things about bitassets is the name, just the real thing with 'bit' in front of it.  I'd be worried about holding bitGLD just because it sounds weird (though I may be foolish to feel that way).

The price Gold and Silver are supposed to track is definitely one ounce of physical metal, not any ETF.

I would prefer calling them BitXAU and BitXAG anyway - that way there is no language bias applied.

Right, they shouldn't be named BitGLD and BitSLV. Those names would cause too much confusion among people familiar with the ETFs.

It looks like it's still called BitGLD, is this going to be changed?

Sounds like you know how to do half of it already, I'm sure the other people needed to do this aren't hard to find.  A coinbase for bitUSD would be awesome.

There's very likely one huge pump coming.

Thereafter it is very likely a 2.0 platform will address the adoption/sustainability/regulatory issues and much of the crypto-value will dump BTC and head for the next big thing.

Say, something like Bitshares...

I agree, although a big pump could propell bitcoin onwards by getting it a ton of media attention around the world and result in more attention from big banks and it would stimulate the bitcoin ecosystem, moving it forward in many other ways.  I actually expect bitcoin to survive and grow for many years, and that bitshares-x will too as it can do many more things.

I've contacted the following exchanges with slightly different versions of my email:

Hitbtc
BTC China
bitfinex
Mintpal (via support ticket, could not find email)
Bitstamp
Kraken
Gocoin
Huobi

It's not perfect, having a largely ad-hoc marketing team not all working from the same office, a side effect of decentralization, but I thought it's worth giving the big exchanges a shot, maybe they will have a look at it.

Phone calls would be more effective, but I don't want to do that.  In person visits to the big exchanges would be even better as others have said.

Sent this version to bitfinex.

Dear Bitfinex team,

I'm writing to you on behalf of BitShares-X and our bitassets.  I believe Bitfinex could easily expand into a crypto-asset exchange, giving it a competitive edge over other cryptocurrency exchanges.  Bitshares-X's bitassets allow for the trading of real world commodities and currencies all within the crypto ecosystem using our bitassets.  So far these include bitUSD, bitCNY, and bitBTC. bitGLD and bitEUR will be unlocked shortly and soon any commodity or currency under the sun will be tradable as a bitasset, using our invention, the market peg.

This is the true bitcoin2.0 and we hope Bitfinex will manoeuvre intelligently to profit and grow with us.  Bitassets are market-pegged to the real-world commodity or currency via a decentralized and secure mechanism.  Enabling your users to trade the bitassets bitUSD, bitCNY, bitBTC, and soon bitGLD on your exchange will allowing entire new markets to flood your exchange and we are confident they will be very popular.  Bitfinex could become the first major crypto-asset exchange. These are cryptocurrencies with a fixed stable value, pegged to the 'real world' value of a currency or commodity in a decentralised manner, a very useful hedging tool for all traders, offering the advantages of cryptocurrency with the stability of more traditional commodities and currencies.

Ok I've emailed HitBTC with this.  I think it's an upgrade from coinhoarder's previous pitch,  so it can be used as a template.  I'll send it to a bunch of other exchanges later today and will report back when done.

New email pitch template:

Subject: On behalf of Bitshares-X + bitUSD‏

http://www.bitsharesblocks.com/assets
shows all of them ... whenever the published feeds is higher then 51 the market is open .. once 500kBTSX are on both sides (bid/ask) the trading starts!

IMHO btsx does not make much sense for payment processors as it is as volatile as bitcion and any other crypto currency
processors and merchants want a stable currency such as the bitUSD

Ok, anyone want to volunteer an email address to answer their questions if they have any?  I don't know enough.  Maybe Brian, the marketing director?

853
could we focus on letting payment processors take

bitUSD / bitEUR / bitCNY ...

and not BTSX!

Just so I'm clear, which bitassets are currently live and which are on the way soon?  I don't have access to the client yet as my laptop is too old (will need to use another machine) but want to help here.  I need to know which bitassets we are requesting they add.

Also, do we only want the bitassets added, or BTSX as well?

Finallly, who should I direct interested exchange operators to if they reply with questions?  Is there someone else's email address (or phone number) I can drop in my emails for them to ask questions?

I'm working on a new email pitch and I'm ready to send it out but just need these questions answered first.  Here's what I've got ready to send:

General Discussion / Re: Airdrop BTSX on .edu emails?
« on: September 24, 2014, 09:24:00 am »
We could also airdrop on financial institutions... @morganstanley.com, fanniemae.com, @ing.com

Any type of email that only traders / financial types will have limited access to. These are the kind of people who "trend set" in the industry we're looking to disrupt.

hmm actually it might be more effective to speak to them on the phone or in person at financial events or something and offer them some a few btsx to play around with on the system.  I think any airdrops/giveaways need to be done with people who have consented and said they want to try it out.

Then again, we could always send the email and ask if they want to participate.
