General Discussion / Re: NXT Volume on BTER...seems odd
« on: August 11, 2014, 04:59:35 pm »
So the volume of NXT on BTER is off the charts (315 BTC in 24h) with little to no movement in price.  Is this just the bag holders selling coins to themselves to keep it on top of the list?

No I don't think so, just two big trades, a big 2 million one and 1 million 16 hours later. That's made up 2/3 of their 24 hour volume.

(If they were trying to fake anything, they'd spread out the trades more.)

General Discussion / Re: New Chapter for MktDirector
« on: August 11, 2014, 03:38:10 pm »
Thanks guys.   My primary focus will be all about BitSharesX right now as the strategy for upcoming DACs is still being drafted.   Riverhead is right, I have a lot more skin in the game as I'll only be rewarded for my efforts and results now and no longer paid for my time.

The marketing campaign we plan to run won't take effect overnight, but when it does, we expect to see significant adoption and inflow of capital to BitSharesX. We have targets for number of downloads, number of funded wallets, total market cap, etc.  So please, get your hands on BTSX now, while it's still cheap. I want the community to benefit from what's to come, since you all built this as much as any of us have.

Charles, Dan, and Stan should work together along with Brian to devise a effective marketing plan.  When I look at Stellar's launch a week ago, I believe Bitshares could learn from its launch.  Do you guys agree?  Let me know your thoughts.

Hadn't heard of Stellar. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole myself. Huge Sharedrops, which so far have only crashed coins, and often seem to be a mechanism to reward devs while trying to appear fair, such as NEM, even sceptical of some others...

This is probably the funniest thing I've read in a while -

Quote
The Foundation received a loan of $3,000,000 from Stripe which was subsequently repaid with 2% of the stellars. The Foundation is allowed to use up to 5% of the initial stellars to fund operations (including the loan repayment).

That would mean Stripe needs Stellar to be worth $150 000 000 just to break even? Like hell they made that initial investment on those terms imo.

The Stellar share drop via Facebook was a great way to market.  The clean interface and straight forward signup process gave ordinary people the opportunity to obtain the new currency.  As a result, many people outside of the crypto community now has Stellar.  I don't think we can say the same for Bitshares.  See the Stellar statshttps://www.stellar.org/stats/.  I just hope we can borrow some aspects from this project and leverage them to our benefit.

I just want BitShares to succeed and adoption is critical to accomplish this end.

Like AuroraCoin bootstrapped Iceland? At least they had a target market...

Thanks for bringing it to my attention though, I will be interested to see how it plays out in the next two months purely from a PR & marketing view.

(Though I actually think a little sharedrop 1-4%, could be positive if handled right.)

Maybe this is just me over-analysing, but tbh I did find it strange that in the St Martin video, whereas Stan is in a BitShares T-shirt and is all about 'We' and 'BitShares' as you'd expect, that Brian, 'The Marketing Director for BitShares' wasn't wearing a BitShares branded T-Shirt and was talking in terms of himself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keTREVYlKNY

General Discussion / Re: T-shirts/swag ideas

'The revolution will not be centralised' seems a bit long to me for a T-Shirt but I see it's really popular and I can't think of anything better.

For BitsharesX, what about Andrew Jackson's famous quote (which is also on his tombstone I believe.)

Quote
'I killed the bank'
- Andrew Jackson

I think that written on the back of a shirt will get a lot of attention. The quote stems from the fact that he destroyed the predecessor to the Federal Reserve...

Andrew Jackson said/did some cool stuff and 200 years later not much has changed....

Quote
Gentlemen! I too have been a close observer of the doings of the Bank of the United States. I have had men watching you for a long time, and am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I have determined to rout you out, and by the Eternal, (bringing his fist down on the table) I will rout you out!

The 2nd quote while amusing is too long for a tshirt.  I like the "I killed the bank" with andrew jackson.  Then on the other side you have a picture of Dan and it says ???

This isn't a terribly serious idea btw.

The 2nd quote wasn't intended for the shirt, just some context for the forum :)
I'm glad I  'I killed the bank' picked up some steam. I still think it will be cool, relevant and attention grabbing.

General Discussion / Re: get coindesk to write articles on bitshares

Coindesk may be interested in publishing Dan's latest post
"Overstock to CryptoStock"
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6818.0

+5% it's a quality piece wouldn't be suprised to see it pop up in a few places.

I'll also be surprised if Coindesk will be able to ignore the launch of BitAssets.

General Discussion / Re: Can BTSX names be made transferrable?

Cool   :) Yeah I'm sure I knew names weren't transferrable for a definite reason, just got excited when I realised how much value there is even in a BTSX name.

« on: August 10, 2014, 06:28:08 pm »
we can not make it transferable. in this case everyone who did this, will profit from this. a name is a nice feature but with 6 billion people and millions of companys out there it will a much bigger problem in the future.

I'm sorry for Brent, but I don't see a problem now, I see opportunity.

General Discussion / Can BTSX names be made transferrable?
« on: August 10, 2014, 06:21:46 pm »
I'd recognised the value of having very similiar brand names registerable in the namespace DAC but this post from Brent shows that there's potentially a lot more than 0.1 BTSX of value to be gained from many BTSX names. I know I personally would have paid a lot more for mine & I can see now,  a lot of businesses would want their BTSX account name to be their brand name and for it to be carried over to future X DAC's.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6832.msg90656#msg90656

It's probably too late now but there's value in an account name that matches your brand name or your brand.com name too. (Especially if BTSX gets as big as we think it can.)

I just tried to create an account with the name canonizer.  But it looks like someone is already squatting on that name?

How do I find out who owns that name?  Can I get it?

Is that legal for someone to jump on a name they know someone else will need?

And are periods legal in names?  Can I register canonizer.com?  I just tried, but my wallet gives me this error:

"RPC server error in 'wallet_account_register' unknown account (20006)"

Brent Allsop

I think you're talking about BitShares X?  Yes anyone can register any name & they're not transferrable.

It's a great point though. You'd like to use canonizer as your name, so people can just pay 'canonizer' right?

this is the point Empirical1. The name was already taken.
you will have to use a different name. Toast had the same issue.
i don't know if you can register something with a dot in the name

I know it's the point but it just proves how valuable a brand name is why we should offer addresses like canonizer+ and canonizer+com on the namespaces DAC.

Brent's case even makes a point for somehow making BTSX account names auctionable & tradeable. There's clearly value in the BTSX account name Toast or Canonizer & even for making the account name you have in BTSX stay yours in future X DAC's.
