General Discussion / Re: $3,000,000 24h Volume, 40% ahead of Ripple

It will be a roller coaster, with a lot of big corrections, but a roller coaster going up  :)

I'm it in for the long term but even as a short term trade, If you think BTSX price will 100%+ if peg works in the short term,  and you think chance of peg holding is greater than 50% then you can buy at any price before peg starts.

I can also tell from bitcointalk that the average english speaking person doesn't actually understand bitassets yet (They think it's just user-issued assets with a twist or something) and beyond a basic description and pointing them to videos/forum etc. I'm not great at explaining it to them. I'm pretty sure when the penny drops and they have their 'Aha moment' this will really move fast.

Wow pretty incredible!  8)

Feels so fast. It seems like only yesterday we were saying

Quote
$1,000,000 24h Volume, 30% ahead of Nxt

Oh wait. That was only yesterday...  :)

If I'm not mistaken, it's a first not only in BitShares history, but in crypto history. Has any other coin (besides Aurora, which was artificially inflated by its airdrop) ever reached Ripple territory?

Litecoin, Nxt

Dogecoin was pretty high at one point too. The big news will be if Bitshares can defeat Litecoin. Litecoin has been in that spot for a long time.

If the feeds and pegging works this is going to take off at scary fast speeds. The market reaction is all ready much much faster then I ever imagined

Yeah it was more pre-peg interest than I expected to see.
If it all works well, hold onto your seatbelts I think :)

General Discussion / Re: PTS Post Snapshot will likely fall again.
« on: August 22, 2014, 03:27:32 am »
Glad to see a healthy drop in PTS, means there was a lot of value in there for the snapshot, BitShares DNS in particular probably. Depending how feature rich the initial release is, it could have a $4 million+ opening CAP. That would put it top 15 out the gate.(Really looking forward to the auction feature, beside mitigating squatting, I think that's going to generate a lot of interest in the DAC.)
So top 10 easy, soon enough :)

General Discussion / Re: OMG - Ripple can fall down today!
« on: August 21, 2014, 07:29:14 pm »
I'm watching the little sell walls that there were on BTC38  BTSX/CNY get eaten up right now. It's just Buy, Buy, Buy...

Ripple is going down!  :)

General Discussion / Re: BTSX takes aim: NXT is next!
« on: August 21, 2014, 07:15:38 pm »
Looks like there are <200 BTC worth of sell walls to take this all the way to $50 million.

As in you couldn't spend $100 000 or buy at market without pushing BTSX past 50 million.

Not sure where the walls are, but we've added well more than $100K in market cap since your posting.

If you look on BTC38 and Bter there are less than 5 million BTSX for sale atm below $50 million CAP.

So you can't buy 5 million BTSX right now without pushing it past $50 million.

(Edit: In practice more sellers will come in as BTSX rises, but from a trading point of view it's a very good sign that there are so few sellers now.)

General Discussion / Re: What if the market-peg doesn't work?
« on: August 21, 2014, 05:54:25 pm »
There are many new people to BTSX that have their doubts about the market peg, and that is OK.  After all it is an economic experiment.   I have high confidence that it will work, but for those with less confidence I would like to present you with our backup plan:

*IF* the market peg doesn't hold well enough (insufficient liquidity, manipulation, etc) then we have a very simple fall back option:

1) The delegates publish a price feed (use the median)
2) All trades must be within X% of the price feed

If there is not enough liquidity it is also possible for the network to "print" BTSX necessary to make great deals relative to a trusted feed.  IE: if BitUSD bids are over 10% above the feed, print BTSX to short BitUSD and if it is under the feed by 10%, cover the short.   Simply knowing there is unlimited sell pressure at 10%+ and a large cover at -10% could also enhance the system.  The benefit of this "system trading" is that the profits from shorting high and covering low go to the shareholders.

Bottom line, we are going with the most market-based solution first and have fall backs to feed based solutions if they prove necessary.  The fall back solutions remove all of the uncertainty about how trades will be executed in the future (for those who do not trust market pegs yet).

The time to implement the backup system is less than 1 week if needed.

+5% Even with high certainty, I always love me some backups and insurance, nice!

General Discussion / Re: BTSX Lending - Revenue w/o Counterparty Risk
« on: August 21, 2014, 05:28:04 pm »
Slight diversion but kind of related to lending. Not sure how much value/demand there will be for something like this, but it lets bulls take leveraged positions in BTSX and it lets big BTSX holders lock in a monthly income & decrease their volatility from a small part of their portfolio.

Will it be possible to do a kind of options trading in BTSX?

Like say I have $100 000 and I think BTSX will double in the next month because of the release of BitAssets.

Instead of just buying a $100 000 worth of BTSX and making a $100 000 that month, I'd like to get as much of the profits from the next month that $100 000 will buy me.

Someone else, Mr. B with $4 000 000 worth of BTSX might only think the price will go up 20% that month and make him $800 000.

So he would be happy to sell me the profit $400 000 of his portfolio would make for the month in advance for $100 000.

So if BTSX doubles I make $400 000 with my $100 000. (& if it increases more than 25% I'm still in profit.)

All it requires is me to send funds to Mr. B and for Mr. B's $400 000 to be sent to escrow and be divided at the end of the month by the system based on the current price.

You can try localbitcoins.com You should be able to buy Bitcoin there via bank transfer pretty simply.  Once you have it you can transfer the bitcoin to an exchange like bter. The whole process, even if you break it up into two/three trades to get the Bitcoin could take less than a few hours if you're familiar with it.

Poloniex has added an easy account register tool apparently.

Very good  +5%

Poloniex added an easy account register tool https://poloniex.com/btsxRegistration (found under balances > BTSX) so you can pay the .1BTSX  to register accounts Cheesy much easier than finding someone to send you .1

this should ease the process  ;D
