General Discussion / [Video] Intro to Bitshares
« on: June 05, 2016, 03:14:02 am »
Thanks to the successful funding of the Chronos Crypto Videos worker proposal, we have now released our first video! Feel free to share as you see fit. This could be useful to a few wider subreddits like /r/cryptocurrency, but I'd rather not push my own material.  :)

Open to any feedback, questions, criticisms, suggestions, etc. Enjoy!

Thank you all for your support. The first video has been released, highlighting some of the key features that make Bitshares stand out from other blockchain technologies.

Technical Support / Re: Bitshares and OpenLedger

What is the alternative that should be linked to?
The alternative is https://bitshares.org/wallet

It still (currently) has OpenLedger as the registrar, but at least it's on the proper domain.

From my worker thread:
I agree with Xeroc though that it would be great to have a video making clear the distinction between Bitshares and Openledger. And if it's paid by worker it would be best if the videos used either the light wallet or bitshares.org/wallet.

I've been commissioned to produce Bitshares-branded videos, which I think is the right choice. I'd like to be able to navigate to http://bitshares.org and click the Online Wallet button, demonstrating the link to the Bitshares wallet. It's clear that OpenLedger is a for-profit company, and it doesn't seem like a decentralized blockchain's website should be linking to the OL wallet as if they are the same brand.

Any thoughts?

Let's at least point the "Try Online Wallet!" button at http://bitshares.org to its own http://bitshares.org/wallet. Any downside?

Technical Support / Cryptofresh worker "Current Balance" bug
« on: June 03, 2016, 04:15:34 am »
Hi @roadscape,

I'm sure this is really minor, but I just wanted to point it out. My worker has been in effect for more than 24 hours, but Cryptofresh shows the wrong amount of Current Balance, 15,277. Shouldn't it be more than Daily Pay (16,666 BTS)?

My wallet shows a vesting amount of 35,415.24966 BTS currently, which is probably the correct Current Balance. It does have a 30-day vesting period, so maybe that's throwing it off.

Or maybe I don't understand what Current Balance means. By the way, would you like to explain the green bits in the bars, while you're at it?  :)

Could it have something to do with uppercase vs lowercase words?

General Discussion / Re: Merger of STEEM and BTS

Once we agree on how much STEEM we should steal from the rich, then everyone will suddenly leave Reddit in a mass Exodus and flock to STEEM to post about Bernie Sanders

You dropped this.   -->   /s

Your username + password is not sufficient if you clear the web-cache?  Is that true?
Correct. Your username is your account name. Everyone can know it. Your password decrypts your wallet, but you need to back up the wallet. Otherwise you have nothing to decrypt.

does your node have more than 4gb of ram? That would be very helpful for the upcoming scalability tests!
It has 3.5GB of ram, so it's pretty close. I'd like to work up to running a mainnet witness, but I see that may be biting off more than I can chew, at the moment. Just let me know how I can help.

If you connect to OpenLedger, they have your IP address.

If you transact on two accounts using OpenLedger, those accounts can be associated because the transactions came from the same IP address.

If you want privacy, turn off all electronics forever (or take someone else's advice).

I was under the impression that OpenLedger was a separate company, affiliated with CCEDK. Is this correct? What is the official relationship between Bitshares and OpenLedger?

When BTS 2.0 rolled out, I expected Cryptonomex to operate the main faucet for registration fees. Instead, this was handed to a company called OpenLedger. Today, this is still true: http://bitshares.org has a "Try Online Wallet" on the front page that links to an OpenLedger URL. Even the official Bitshares web wallet at http://bitshares.org/wallet still has OpenLedger receiving the registrar credit on new accounts.

I was under the impression that OpenLedger was a separate company, affiliated with CCEDK. Is this correct? What is the official relationship between Bitshares and OpenLedger? Why doesn't the faucet come from the committee account, so that registrar bonuses are returned to the network?

Surprised to see my worker (Blockchain Explorer and API Development) back in, even though there's only a few days left.. these weeks are busy but I'll gladly put this pay towards more updates in June!
Awesome! Do you have a thread for feature suggestions? The Charts page is starting to load slowly, and might benefit from some caching. Another interesting area you could consider is Richlists / coin distribution graphs. Other chart ideas could come from our Blockchain friends: https://blockchain.info/charts. Also, committee/witness/worker/proxy support-over-time graphs.

Just some ideas.  :)

Good news. This worker was voted in, just in time for work to begin! Thank you so much for your support. See http://cryptofresh.com/workers.

At the time of this writing, it is just 200k BTS over the threshold to be active. We still need your votes. Being hired and fired every other day could be bad for my blood pressure.  :P
