Stakeholder Proposals / Re: [Worker Proposal] Chronos Crypto Videos #2

This worker is not currently funded. We need the voting support of about 65M more BTS in order to continue video production. I've posted an update on the videos produced so far: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,23612.0.html

General Discussion / Update on Chronos Videos
« on: December 21, 2016, 11:08:29 pm »
It's time for an update on Chronos Crypto Videos. Over the past year. the worker has published about three videos per month while active, in line with production goals. We now have the following videos available:

Tech Lectures:
  • Intro to Bitshares, where we take a brief overview of some of the key features that make Bitshares stand out from other blockchain technologies.
  • Bitshares Security: Delegated Proof of Stake, where we compare Bitcoin's security model with some of the key features that set Bitshares apart as a next-generation crypto.
  • Bitshares Inflation Rate, where we study the factors that cause the total supply of BTS to increase or decrease over time.

Walkthroughs:

News and Announcements:
  • Bitshares Merger Vesting Ends, where we celebrate the end of the Bitshares merger vesting dilution, and analyze the network growth over the past year.

Check out all the videos on the Bitshares Playlist.

Below are some of the comments and feedback we've received on the YouTube channel:
  • "Stunning cryptocurrency design, nicely conveyed." - Harry Evelegh
  • "Excellent presentation----look forward to seeing all your work as it progresses!!! ¥€S" - Alexander Vago
  • "Good work!" - Marek Chmielewski
  • "nice video. Thanks for the info." - HowzatDCC
  • "Very good Chronos. I'll tweet this one out." - Patrick Konshak
  • "Great video - very well explained. Useful tool I wasn't aware off." - Andy Mckey
  • "Really interesting. Thanks for the video" - Ian Watt
  • "I like it, easy to follow." - Louis Castro
  • "Useful video, thanks!" - CLains
  • "Awesome. I wish I had this video when I create my UIA's." - Patrick Konshak
  • "Good video." - Ken Code
  • "Thanks for the walk through! These are very good tutorials." - Paul Zozem
  • "I appreciate your BitShares videos just as I appreciated your earlier Peercoin videos. I've since moved on to Bitcoin and Ethereum, but am curious about BitShares." - Derek Mahar

The worker fell out of the approved workers slate this week, and is no longer funded. We need the voting support of about 65M more BTS in order to continue video production. I'd like to open this discussion up to find out how the community would like to move forward with the worker.

I think this is a good time to take an assessment on how things are going. What have you liked so far? What would you prefer to be done differently? What do you want to see in the future?

The Chronos Worker Proposal has published a quick demonstration of a Bitshares transfer.

Sending tokens from one account to another is one of the simplest and easiest things you can do on the Bitshares network. This short video walks us through the process, briefly touching on account avatars, asset types, and fee pools.

I would be open to it, but I'm not sure that it would be better for shareholders. It may not even benefit the BitUSD market. Imagine the hypothetical: if the worker wants to sell the BitUSD, they may use force settlement to get the more liquid BTS, and then the entire effect is canceled.

Perhaps I'm missing something, though. The idea of paying workers with BitUSD should be discussed further.

This could be good reason to have forced settlement offset from 100%. It protects shorts against unfair price fees during forced settlement.

General Discussion / Re: [Discuss]Why we reject all Bitshares workers?
« on: December 20, 2016, 01:57:34 am »
Whole idea that a company can be managed by a crowd of shareholders is utopia, because shareholders don't understand a shit about how a company works. In real world, companies are ran by experts. Voting exists to collect input from shareholders, and based on this input, experts make their educated decisions. Bitshares proved that crowd can't manage nothing.
We have proxies for that .. call them managers if you like

You can call them managers or whatever, but they don't seem to manage anything. You still need approval from a crowd for every little development step, through proxy or directly no matter. This is wrong.
Proxies are the solution to this problem, I think. They have a responsibility to step up and be active voters and managers. In theory, the best proxies will receive the most support due to their good management and reputation.

Take a look at our proxy list here: http://cryptofresh.com/ballots. Interestingly, Bytemaster and Angel are in 9th and 11th place, controlling the vote of nearly 30M BTS between them, even though they haven't placed any vote in over 270 days! Their dormancy has gradually caused them to lose support, but they still have significant power. This may be a weakness of the system, but it is not fatal, since we are still able to vote workers in and out without their participation.

A bounty system may be able to be set up without the need for any hard fork. It could work something like this:
  • The community proposes a bounty to create (example: a bug fix or new feature)
  • Anyone can create a worker with zero pay to measure support of the bounty
  • While this zero-pay worker is voted in, it is an announcement of the available bounty
  • Someone does the work, i.e. creates a pull request with the new code, earning the bounty
  • After the work is done, the committee creates a worker to generate the pay, which is then given to the recipient

This could even be denominated in BitUSD, if the committee made the conversion from BTS to BitUSD by purchasing it on the DEX in step 5.

So, I don't think we need to hard-fork or overhaul the system, because there is a lot we can do with the current system. Xeroc gave another creative example with his idea for a worker payable in BitUSD.

Do we lack volunteers? I'm not sure, and it's hard to measure. I think the worker system probably does reduce volunteerism. But it also brings new productivity, such as through my own worker, so the tradeoff may be worth it. It's hard to know.

Not spent  ,you are the coolest.
You are a big supporter of Bitshares +5% +5% +5% +5% +5%
Thank you!  :) I would be honored to have your delegate vote for this worker. I hope you will consider supporting it.

My goal is that we may be able to find a solution to bring this worker alive again. I believe that the videos can be a great resource for the Bitshares community.

@Chronos ,you can make Videos and get money in Steemit.Or create a UIA like VIBERZ   .
The investors lose too much blood,we need BTS deflation at this difficult time.
Hi @ebit, those are good ideas. So far, I've felt that those routes wouldn't be effective at raising funds, which is why I haven't pursued them as an alternative at this time.

I have good news, though: the investors have not "lost blood" to this worker since its creation. In fact, as you can see from my YouTube worker account, I have not spent or sold a single BTS at the time of this writing. The BTS earned by this worker have been kept entirely off the market, which has been a boon to the market price. From one perspective, you might say that this worker has cost investors nothing. Of course, that doesn't mean I'll never sell any BTS, but you can rest assured, I'm a big supporter of Bitshares, just as you are.

today after some discussion in China community, bitcrab proxy decided to vote down this worker proposal.
now BTS is in very low price, we need to try everything we can to restore the confidence of the market, including stopping unimportant payment.
@bitcrab I respect your decision. I'm working on another video that I will complete and publish later this week despite the lack of funding. From there, we will need to get this worker voted in before further work will be done. Thank you!

The next video has been released! Bitshares User-Issued Assets Walkthrough

General Discussion / [Video] Bitshares User Issued Assets
« on: December 19, 2016, 01:14:46 am »
The Chronos Worker Proposal has published a demonstration of creating and issuing a new User-Issued Asset.

Creating your own UIA can be a bit tricky, so it's good to have a high degree of confidence and understanding before taking the plunge. This video covers the UIA settings, the relationship between Permissions and Flags, and how to issue your new asset after it has been created. It seeks to demystify the process of User-Issued Assets, and make them more approachable to everyone.

Technical Support / Re: Unable to issue newly created asset

Hi @Vibez,

Unfortunately, a SmartCoin is probably not what you wanted to create, as you don't directly control its supply. A SmartCoin is designed to be pegged to an outside valuation through price feeds, and its supply is governed by margin short positions.

I just published a walkthrough video on user-issued assets that you might find useful. The steps to issue your new tokens are covered at 7:38 in the video, but as I mentioned, this is unfortunately not available for Smart Coin UIAs.

At this point, your best course of action may be to create another asset as a non-SmartCoin. You can follow the steps in the video to do this.

I'm available if you have any more questions. Good luck!

Perhaps this is something that Soledger would like to look into through their worker role? We should strive to be compatible with the latest versions of our dependencies.

Can you do a video on governance?
Do you mean a video on how the Bitshares committee works? That's actually one of the topics I'm working on right now.  :)

Getting paid >$50 a day and having no new videos for >40 days makes me feel like I can no longer vote for this worker.
The last video came out on Nov 24, and today is Dec 14, so that makes 19 days without a video -- not anything like 40 days! You're right, though; I'm running a bit behind schedule. I purchased a ceiling-mount green-screen to improve the videos, but it arrived damaged, and a new one is being sent. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results. My goal is to produce three more videos by the end of the year.

Putting more emphasis on distribution would be cool, it doesn't seem like the videos are really getting very many eyeballs, but they will be a good educational tool for the future.
I agree, the videos are really useful for bringing newcomers up to speed. I pointed someone to the Bitshares Playlist earlier today when they messaged me on an altcoin forum asking which coins were "hot" these days. Do you have any other suggestions on how to get the word out?

Great stuff so far though!
Thank you! Feel free to post more video suggestions in this thread. I value your opinions.

P.S. A @Chronos video would be AWESOME!
