Technical Support / How to calculate profits from
« on: June 27, 2015, 11:29:14 pm »
Kind of a Newb question here... but how do I calculate the profits I made from a short.  Looking in the wallet the I have the following from a recent cover

Margin-24e07010-->Market  sell collateral @ .00654194769      5,999.98682 BTS
Market-->Margin-24e07010  payoff debt @ .0065419476992     39.2516 USD

I know that my trade was profitable, but how much bts did I make off it?  5,999.98682?

General Discussion / Corona Dapp funding
« on: May 19, 2015, 05:19:03 pm »
I came across this article on cointelegraph

http://cointelegraph.com/news/114285/decentralization-is-a-market-force-inside-the-corona-dapp-network

Basically they provide funding for DAPP developers and they say the support the bitshares platform.  Seems like an interesting idea, but I can't figure out how they will make any money or even how to invest in the first place.

Anyone ever heard of these guys?

General Discussion / Gaining Financial Exposure to Bitshares
« on: May 01, 2015, 03:48:47 pm »
I would like to get some opinions on this.  Say I have $10k to invest.  I want to invest in bitshares, but the lack of liquidity on exchanges is going to make aquiring this much bts difficult.  What do you think would be the best option?

-buy bts through exchanges with a resting order and let it hopefully fill?
-buy 10k worth of moonfund and get the 15% bonus.  Is the 15% bonus and ability to aquire instantly worth the risk of not being paid back?

Technical Support / Rolling over a short position
« on: April 17, 2015, 01:15:36 pm »
I have short that is set to expire in a few days.  I don't want to close it as a loss and would prefer to roll it over.  Every other short I have done I had let expire and have realized I get killed by that 10% buying envelope.  What is the easiest way to roll over a short?

General Discussion / The move of sovereign Nations to Crypto has begun
« on: April 01, 2015, 01:17:52 pm »
Greece seriously contemplating a move to bitcoin as their national currency.

What I find most interesting in the article is their desire to move away from oppressive third party lenders.

Hear that in the distance?  Those are crypto's drums of war marching on the castles of fiat...

General Discussion / Dead forum...

Anyone else notice how slow this forum has gotten?  We are now down to like 10 English posters... It's too bad because this used to be a hotbed for bitshares conversation...

General Discussion / Argentina and Mexico Remittance Opportunity
« on: March 03, 2015, 12:06:02 am »
This article appeared on coindesk.  They appear to be trying to create a remittance service without the customer knowing they are using bitcoin as the medium of exchange.  I know we have been trying to do this with bitshares lately.  It could be a great opportunity to get a gateway up and going in South America.  I have contacted them with an email about the usefulness of bitshares, but maybe @matt608 or @Gentso1 could follow up as well since you guys are the pros.

General Discussion / Why this rally will last
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:02:55 am »
I've been a seller on most of our rallies in the past, but I think this is the real deal.  Why???  Because on all of our previous rallies, the superbulls were out in full force saying "this is the one" and "to the moon!".

Look at many long time forum members... they don't believe this is a lasting rally because there is no news to accompany it.  P.S.  Markets are predictors of future events, not reactors.

I've harped on how BTS was going to unload as many bulls as it could at the bottom before entering a new bull market... It's doing that right now and a lot of people are going to look back and scratch there heads wondering why they sold in Feb 2015.  Now is the time to HODL.

They mention how bitcoin is going to be accumulated down here by the large investors... Rob isn't a big crypto pom pom cheerleader, he's the kind of person open to the idea of cyrpto but doesn't have a ton of knowledge on it.

Also the talk about the Swiss national bank abandoning the Euro peg is interesting as well.

Has anyone been having trouble with withdrawals from BTER lately?  I tried withdrawing today and BTER says they sent the transaction, but it hasn't shown up in my wallet yet...  I hope its not lost

General Discussion / How to clean up this forum
« on: November 25, 2014, 07:46:55 pm »
As many of you know, this forum is almost impossible to keep up with.  Be it from duplicate threads to posts that are just too damn long...

My proposal is this

-Allow responses/replies up to 200 characters to be free; don't allow back to back posting
-If the response is over 200 characters then charge a BTS fee of 5 bts
-A new thread costs 10 BTS to open
-Threads/Posts that are in incorrect sub-forums can be moved by mods to there correct forums for a 2 BTS Reward
-The remaining collected bts after every 30 day period is burned

I don't know how to run a delegate, but this seems like a job that would be a perfect fit

This would really cut down on the unnecessarily long posts and flame wars that pop up on here and get in the way of the productive threads

General Discussion / New Marketing Opportunity
« on: November 19, 2014, 02:39:51 pm »
I'm a member of the FXStreet.com Live Analysis room.  We are an online forex trading room that meets 9:00-11:00Am Eastern US time.  We currently have around 100-200 viewers daily. We have had a few crypto currency interviews about bitcoin and one about frankocoin.  People in there seem interested in learning about crypto.

I'm wondering if someone from the marketing team or development team would like to come in an give a presentation on bitshares.  Usually the interviews are at 10:15 eastern and last around 15-30 minutes.

I think this would be a great opportunity to spread the word about bitshares.  I know many are busy leading up to the 1.0 release but maybe something can be planned early next year?

General Discussion / This is why BTSX has fallen in market cap
« on: October 31, 2014, 01:21:40 pm »
I love how people blame any downside moves as pump and dumps...

I've traded for the last 8 years and I'll tell you what is most likely happening.

Typically in mergers and aquistions the buying company (BTSX) shares are sold off while the aquired company (PTS AGS) shares rally because a premium is usually paid over the current market price in order to gain full control of the company.  The former is happening in BTSX since it will be diluting in order to acquire PTS and AGS.  PTS and AGS are not rallying because there shares are not being bought at a premium in order to gain a controlling stake.  Hence you only get matching downward actions in all the different share types.

There are some cases where the acquiring company shares will rally when they take over a competitor.  This usually only happens if the market thinks the acquiring company is getting the acquired companies shares at a discount.

The reason why BTSX hasn't rallied is because BTSX was priced for perfection prior to the merger and buying PTS/AGS doesn't help it achieve any unexpected growth.  I mean did any of you think that Dan had the possibility of leaving and focusing on other stuff before he announced the merger?  I highly doubt 90% of the community did...

The announcement showed small cracks in the BTSX foundation that investors (NOT pump and dumpers) didn't see before...

In short: Bitshares is what most of us all thought BTSX would be, but with more outstanding shares... hence the selloff
