Technical Support / Re: Rolling over a short position

I've been trying to do this, and I keep getting:
Invalid asset amount (35005)
Does this look familiar?
If your using 0.9.0 try setting the collateral to a number without a decimal place.  I was getting the same error and this helped.  Its a bug due to recent changes.

Thanks Xeldal, that seems to have worked.

This issue has been brought up sporadically over the last year.  Bytemaster mentioned that a fix could be done where you could cover with your existing collateral, but it sounded like a "duct tape" fix.  I'm sure it will be addressed in the future, but I guess now its like burning your hand on the stove.  Last year I got burned in the same way skyscraperfarms did recently.

Have you thought of using advertisers and sponsors as a way to generate income?  You could have dedicated 15-30 second blocks where you read an ad.  I'm sure several companies would find value in doing this. You also could add a subscription model where people pay to get add free recordings. You also could allow subscribers to be guaranteed answers to questions by giving them some sort of token or uia that they can spend for airtime with bm or whoever is being interviewed.  Just a rough idea of ways to possibly monetize beyond bitcoin.

Any reason why you would classify this as a scam?

IMO the fact that I haven't been voted out yet is troubling. Maybe I should just turn them off and allow lots of blocks to be missed? It'd save me $80/mo since I don't use that vps for anything else anymore...

I was just relaying what toast said in a different thread.  I'm all for him keeping the delegate running if he is giving it to other developers since it would be difficult to get an additional 100% delegate voted in.

And what point am I missing here?  Is it that you think this project will "break" if we vote out a delegate who isn't working on said project?  Personally I don't know what value is added by electing a delegate who doesn't contribute.

998

This new round of community is going to really turn BTS around.

Toast was the best asset BitShares had and I'd assume he still looks out for it.  A couple of 100% delegates will not make any noticeable difference financially, but if those funds were properly directed by Toast then perhaps the funds would have made a noticeable positive difference.

Given that Toast was the best asset of BitShares that is public facing, being all quick to remove all his remaining interest in the project is probably not in the interest of BitShares.  lol.
+5% +5%
Plus as far as I know this funds are redirected to other severely underpaid core developers...

I can see a ton of other delegates that I will vote out before toast's, but hey if you disagree it is you vote....break your head and this project.
And good luck!

Toast said himself that he was surprised he hasn't been down voted.  He even said he would turn off the delegate and miss blocks to expedite the process of being voted out.  He hasn't made any mention that his delegate funds were being redirected.

At the current pace it doesn't seem like you will reach your crowdfunding goal... I'm not sure if money commonly flows in to a project near the end of the fund raising term.  Would you consider extending the crowdfunding term?

It isn't completely risk free because someone can issue another interfering order at the same time, but the basic process is this:

Check that there are no current expired orders, no bids high above the feed, and check the interest rate and price limit for any current shorts.  Create a short order in the gap between highest bid and lowest ask and click short, but don't confirm it yet.  Create a matching buy order to buy up all of your short, but don't submit it yet either.  Double check the feed and order books to make sure your orders will currently be matched with each other, and then quickly confirm both orders so they make it into the same block.  Assuming no one else submits an order in the same block that crosses over your order price, they'll match and you can use the BitAsset from your new short to cover your old short, effectively recollateralizing and extending the expiration to 30 days.

Thanks for the quick answer.  Do I have to do anything with the "cover" button on my existing short?

I have short that is set to expire in a few days.  I don't want to close it as a loss and would prefer to roll it over.  Every other short I have done I had let expire and have realized I get killed by that 10% buying envelope.  What is the easiest way to roll over a short?

The merge-related dilution and the  current inflationary aspect of BTS are two things I never signed up for, and it would be best if we returned to making BTS a purely deflationary crypto from this point forward.

I generally agree with the desire to make BTS a success without inflation and believe I have found a way.

.......?!?

(Isn't it nice having BM back on the forums everyone?  :D)

I'm so happy BM is back on the forums.  It rekindles all the confidence I had late last year in this project.

I'm sure these guys are all BTS bulls.  Why not offer to pay them $100 worth of bts?  It would be much easier to aquire through BTER, BTC38, or Metaexchange and they could always use the internal exchange if they wanted to convert to bitUSD.

1004
So what exactly is happening right now?  Is bitshares once again pivoting in a completely new direction?  Has 1.0 been delayed?  I see no milestones have been updated or achieved recently.

130k worth of bts being sold over 30 days won't move the market "massively"... It's 1% of the market cap
