General Discussion / Injecting some fun into bitshares - new markets
« on: April 14, 2015, 08:22:55 am »
I've been thinking about creating some fun, novel market pegged assets, and I'd like your feedback:

Brownian motion

This is a random walk, priced between 0 and 1 BTS. This would allow gamblers to use the bitshares wallet without modification to bet their BTS on random chance using the existing market mechanisms.

London temperature

Feed price tracks the temperature in London in real time, again priced in BTS (fahrenheit so we don't have less than 0 - could use kelvin, of course) . At first glance this seems absurd because it is largely predictable, but I think this could lead to some very interesting behaviours.

Bitcoin hash rate

Feed price tracks the bitcoin hash rate

Games100 index

Tracks computer game sales for the top 100 computer games

Film100 index

Tracks film sales for the top 100 grossing films

The last couple might be hard to get decent data from, but the first lot should be a breeze. I'd love to hear what you think about this?

Cheers, Paul.

We are pleased to announce our partnership with bitsapphire for the moonstone fundraiser is now live!

https://metaexchange.info/markets/MOONFUND/BTC

The moonstone team are running a metaexchange node on their own hardware, which has been set up to issue/burn the MOONFUND UIA as buy and sell orders come in.

This is metaexchange's first fundraiser partnership and we hope to be part of many more. There are a number of advantages to using metaexchange to handle your own fundraiser:

* You hold your funds at all times directly on your own server/wallets
* BTC injected into bitshares increases the value of the ecosystem in general
* No need to slog away coding your own solution for accepting bitcoin and issuing UIAs.

Shoot me a PM if you'd like to talk more about running your own fundraiser :)

Cheers, Paul.

General Discussion / Metaexchange - BTC/bitUSD or bitUSD/BTC?
« on: April 08, 2015, 03:07:33 pm »
Hi guys,

Metaexchange has always had the bitUSD and bitCNY markets 'flipped', such that the price listed is not a bitcoin price, but a USD or CNY price because people are used to reading it that way.

The problem is, this flipping also flips the order types, so a buy of bitUSD with BTC as shown on the site is actually a sell of BTC for bitUSD. However, I have a bug whereby I am not actually flipping the order type recorded in the transactions lists, so a buy on the site is a 'buy' order type and the recorded price is incorrect because of this.

I have two choices, change the recorded order type, which might well lead to more confusion and support requests (since buying on the site would then show a sell order), or remove the flipped markets so that prices are always listed in BTC, so you'd have 0.004 BTC instead of 250 USD shown on the front page.

What would you like to see?

General Discussion / Why is ripple's chart so smooth?

This has been bugging me for a while, ripple's price chart on CMC is always really smooth compared to the other coins. Why?

Is it possible for the buyer of a UIA to be sure that the original owner can't just steal their UIA funds?

I'm trying to use the wallet_asset_issue_to_addresses RPC call, but passing the follow parameters leads to an assert:

Code: [Select]
{\"jsonrpc\":\"2\",\"id\":1,\"method\":\"wallet_asset_issue_to_addresses\",\"params\":[\"ABCDEF\",[{\"BTSD4ZtTqHcoYDFvaAL5QwXvfN2mTkMMVbA1\":\"0.997\"}]]}

Code: [Select]
message = "Bad Cast (7)\nInvalid cast from object_type to Array\n"
Code: [Select]
detail = "7 bad_cast_exception: Bad Cast\nInvalid cast from object_type to Array\n    {\"type\":\"object_type\"}\n    th_a  variant.cpp:530 fc::variant::get_array"
Anyone know the correct form?

I've created a new test UIA called ABCDEF https://bitsharesblocks.com/asset/info?asset=ABCDEF.

SOLVED: it wasn't the issue transaction itself, but a errant link which caused the assert:

bts:gatewaytest/transfer/amount/5/memo/ABCDEF_BTC-0-mt3X9NP2oVyoPfii4LdmL/from/gatewayclient/asset/DEF

Note the incorrect asset name on the end, this is my bug, but it did cause an assert :)

Hi guys,

A couple of people have commented that the quantities listed on the metaexchange buy/sell buttons are confusing because they look like prices, but are not. In fact they represent the amount of bitAsset you would receive by converting 1 BTC.

This in itself wouldn't necessarily cause confusion, but when you combine it with the fact that we list transactions being filled at a price, like a traditional exchange, confusion can arise, because the price is not the same as the quantities listed on the buttons.

So, the question is, do we need to change the display on the buttons? Should I just replace the quantities with plan bid/ask prices, or is there something else that would be clearer?

Advice is greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Paul.

Marketplace / $500 per critical flaw in metaexchange
« on: March 12, 2015, 11:55:14 am »
Hi everyone,

Security is paramount to us, so we are offering $500 per critical flaw discovered in metaexchange. Either through the analysis of the source code, or through direct reproducible action.

Critical flaw is defined as any exploitable hole where an attacker can gain access to funds outside of the designed system. An example would be some edge case which causes multiple refunds to be issued for the same transaction, or a route through which an attacker could access special admin commands.

If you're interested in doing this analysis, shoot me a PM and I will give you all the locations in the code base which will be of interest.

Cheers, Paul.

Hi everyone,

We're pleased to announce our partnership with trusted community
member spartako, who has become a metaexchange liquidity provider for
the bitCNY/BTC market:

https://metaexchange.info/markets/bitCNY/BTC

Liquidity providers act as market makers who run their own
metaexchange node. Due to our unique design they are able to run their
operations with zero counter-party risk while still providing the same
service they would have on a traditional centralised exchange, except with zero trading fees.

If you would like to talk more about becoming a liquidity provider,
please shoot me a PM.

Cheers, Paul.

Hi guys,

I wanted to let you guys know that https://metaexchange.info is ready to help trusted community members with their crowdfunding efforts! We can offer to put your UIA up as an asset on the metaexchange network, to greatly simplify the process of accepting BTC as payment.

What's more, because of the unique design of metaexchange, you don't need to hand over the ownership of your UIA to us (so we can issue it), instead we can simply give you a metaexchange node to run on your own server! What this means is:

* Zero counterparty risk for you
* Accept BTC payment for your asset with ease
* Keep full ownership of your UIA, so you can still offer it on the internal bitshares exchange as well
* Have the option of making a profit from asset trading (if you enable buying back the asset)

Shoot me a PM if you'd like to discuss this in more detail!

Cheers, Paul.
