General Discussion / Re: Privatizing BitAssets
« on: April 16, 2015, 12:49:14 pm »
I do not like this idea, perhaps it will lead to a ripple-like ecosystem, I don’t think that is the right way for Bitshares.

But I think the rules for issuing pegged assets need some change.

I am now operating a BitCNY gateway transwiser.com. users pay me CNY and I pay them BitCNY back. as you can image, I now find that I am in a dilemma - I have no way to generate BitCNY to cover customers' requirement.

as we are all aware, normally BitCNY are issued by shorting trades when the orders fulfill many conditions, for example, now the feed price is 35.2181BTS/BitCNY. user A can place a short order with price not lower than the feed price, say 35.22BTS/BitCNY. If there’s no other ask orders with price lower than 35.22BTS/BitCNY, another user B can place an bid order to make the trade done and the BitCNY issued.

It is easy to understand that in this scenario user A can play the role of B and trade with him/herself using another BTS id, put 3* value BTS into collateral and get BitCNY back. Actually it seems most of the pegged assets are issued in this way.

But this “shorting to oneself” way does not work when there is an ask order with price lower than its price. And now I find there are robots which keep on placing ask orders with price a little lower than the feed price, this make the “shorting to oneself” way does not work.

Now there is a question – should we make the “shorting to oneself” way always work by changing the rules. I strongly say yes we should. We can enable user to short to him/herself when the price is no lower than the feed price, either there is lower price ask orders or not.

With this change, gateway operators can issue BitAssets when it is needed and he has enough BTS, and he will actually play the role of banker in Bitshares ecosystem. This will bring much incentive to Bitshares.

bugs still exist in the market place, according to the designed rules, some BitUSD/BTS orders should be traded but now they do not, even the old  users are disappointed for this, please try to fix the bugs ASAP.

做市应该很有搞头,可是任意两种资产间不是都可以直接交易吗?为什么还需要BOTSCNY来作居间呢?

in the GUI USD stand for "BitUSD", right? then why not use word like "BTU" instead to avoid misleading user?

seems I own the 8 different sending address, but does this mean everything is ok and I need not to worry about anything?

BitShares AGS / Why my PTS donation does not appear in the balance?
« on: February 15, 2014, 07:43:26 am »
Till now I totally donated 1100 PTS from address PnPBVzm1ivncRDh2rxdesTeNbLcP2kQa9A with below transaction ID:

c898c3bb11ed33c9c93179fcaaf2dedb29a1fbdf901d761a8e17176af2ce734c

but when I check my balance in agsexplorer, it said no donation found.

I checked by exploring the blockchain and found that the transaction can be found, but the sending address is another address, not my sending address.

how can this happen?  and what shall I do to fix it?

General Discussion / Re: Do BitShares need an interest rate?
« on: February 11, 2014, 08:12:25 am »
If the interest rate goes too high then the value of BitUSD would rise... as USD holders seek to buy BitUSD for a solid return... too low and it will fall as USD holders move elsewhere.   Thus it could be said that BitUSD with an interest rate of 0 will be pegged to the value of CASH.   BitUSD with an interest rate of 5% will be pegged to the value of a 5% treasury note.

So what does this mean for a blockchain?  To maximize the value of the chain you want to maximize the number of people storing value IN the chain.  Most people don't keep CASH on hand because they can at least earn SOME interest in the bank.

My conclusion is that 0% interest will approximate cash and if you want to hedge against inflation having a separate BitAsset pegged to the inflation rate with 0% return would solve the problem.

If the prediction market is always working to bring the current value of BitUSD to be equal to the dollar then the only premium or discount you will see based upon whether money is flowing into or out of BitUSD / USD.

Conclusion... any interest rate placed on BitUSD and/or shorting in this system may be irrelevant and an unnecessary added complexity that merely biases the market and breaks the peg with a premium in one direction or another.   If the interest rate merely prevents shorts from entering the market until the price is 5% too high given their time horizon why implement it.

Not implementing interest at all would be simpler and if the economic consequences are the same then perhaps it would be best to forgo interest in the initial chain?

Simplicity seems to be the best option :)

agree 0% interest.

actually I don't think "Bank" is a good metaphor here, bank pay interest to savers because they save money in bank and then others can borrow these money from bank and pay return, however, blockchain is rather just a wallet for users.

surely some other BitAssets can be created to track coupon bond, but I think it's best for BitUSD to track USD cash, in my view, two important roles BitUSD need to play is payment method and value reference, if people can pay BitUSD instead of USD in many e-Commerce scenarios and take BitUSD as a reference to measure the value of other digital Assets, we do not need to worry there will not be enough BitUSDs in the Bitshares systems.

General Discussion / Re: Announcing Angel Shares & BitShares Allocation
« on: December 31, 2013, 07:30:45 am »
one question regarding the BTS allocation:

according to my understing, suppose at BTS release only 1.5M PTS are mined out, then each PTS will be allocated 2/1.5=1.33 BTS, the rest 0.5M PTS which are not mined out yet will not get BTS allocated and there will be no more 1:1 matching for PTS and BTS, right?

the same question for AGS and BTS matching, as at BTS release maybe only 1M AGS are sold out.

Correct, there will be greater than 1:1 matching if we launch before things are mined out.

same for AGS? suppose BTS will be released after exactly 100 days from now and at that time 1M AGS are sold out, will it be a 1:2 matching for AGS:BTS?
