General Discussion / Re: The DAO price discussion thread.
« on: May 14, 2016, 07:10:43 am »

I really am not looking to be a dick. However people need to correlate their mistakes appropriately. If the lesson you learned from BitShares is "don't trust programmers" then you need to seriously reconsider the basis of what you learned.

That... or become a programmer... :)

I'm a PHP and C (not plus plus )programmer myself ....
What I meant was "i'm not gonna trust programmers to take a chuck load of money to invest on something else that was not built by them and out of their control to hope to get return on investment " .
I could just invest the things that they intended to invest in myself , if all they do is take one's money and give it to another .

of course , some VC and Investment funds are built by programmers , but they also have people from other area of expertise to help them , like from the financial, business world .
But crypto investment fund that was not runned in the form of a traditional investment process ? don't think they could have those .

General Discussion / Re: Move Bitsharestalk to Steemit?
« on: May 11, 2016, 06:24:13 am »
Steem's unlimited range of topics appeals to an infinitely wider audience than BitSharesTalk and thus has the benefit of bringing new eyeballs to anything about BitShares posted there.

This includes new DEX users who have picked up a head of Steem and now want to know what other cool things you can do with it.

Kind of like Plutonium.

It's fortunate that those with intractably bitter attitudes want to stay here on BitSharesTalk where no one will see their posts and only positive, optimistic people want to move their constructive, forward thinking opinions into the bright, puffy cloud of Steem where snide comments quickly sink into oblivion.  So it's a really beautiful, self-reinforcing Darwinian selection process.

No need to formally make such a group decision.  It will sort itself out.

:)

It is very much true that shady people who have one consistent trait of not following through with what they say they're going to do would prefer a site where they and their cohorts can bury any messages pointing this out.

Edit - It shows a lack of integrity to not speak of one's truth beliefs.

hmm . I thought STEEM is a blockchain . I don't think burying information is possible .

Even with so-called up-vote and down-vote system , I can still build a site where the sorting algo will be different from STEEMIT right ?

Just like a Blockchain explorer can choose whether their Block info displays from top to bottom or bottom to top .

Sure. You're right, but is anyone going to do this?  Does it make any sense? Can you discern algorithmically why things have been voted down?

The information will be on the blockchain regardless. The difference is what level is it presented to users.

You can extract posts off the blockchain, but you could just as well use pastebin from the start and pass around the URL etc.

Upvoting/downvoting is great to get out the crap posts.

Not so great for legitimate criticisms.

I haven't dig further into the algo . But with what control can you upvote a post ? Stake ?
Then what if people with criticisms buys a lot of stake and then upvote a criticisms post ?

PS. I forgot ...they premined 80% stake ..

likewise, what time do chinese get out of BTS so we can actually get some work done?

don't know , but i'll try to help you block the Chinese into interested in STEEM and peerplay in case they ruin these two great project as well .

All the developers moved to steem?
you better follow the discussion and notice that there is a bug currently searched for in both, the steem backend node and bitshares that makes the nodes crash at some point ..
it just hasn't happend to the small steem network yet ..

//edit: BTS nodes are not run by the developers but by individuals!

will running multiple instance of STEEM,MUSE,BTS on a same VPS cause that bug ?

well , you're making an assumption that the premined STEEM could feed them forever and they will work on STEEM forever .....

clearly it won't be the case looking back at history .

I have been trying to get excited about STEEM and am playing around with its features so far. But I think one of the main reasons BM is working on it is so that he can fund his endeavors by pumping and dumping it. One of his messages seemed to suggest this pretty clearly. If they truly want to make money from a market cap that naturally reaches great heights, it's going to require a different kind of development. STEEM's success is going to depend even more heavily on the type of outreach and viral growth of the user base that has been so elusive for BitShares. I really hope they have some different people involved in that project who can help sell it, since that's been one of our major shortcomings here.

How did Bitshares lose the Chinese? Now Ethereum is being translated and promoted in China.

The first thing was DNS .
Freezing an crypto asset that people paid for scared people . They didn't realize someone had the power to do it .

Some even come back from holiday and found out that their DNS was ceased to exist .

Merger and worker dilution didn't help either . But I think the worst part was freezing DNS after it was fully circulated and brought by ordinary people and speculators on the market .

As for Ethereum,  I don't think Ethereum has anything to do with BitShares to be compared .
BitShares is for "real-users" , not speculators , right . One can't envy benefiting from highly active speculation and the high marketcap that comes with it  while its mission is to disregard speculators and the market to serve the imaginary real users who contributed several cents in each trade .........

But the funny part is , people paid for BTS when it was priced at a highly active speculation environment (crypto market) , so .....it's nearly impossible for people to make the return on their investment by a few cents from a few "real-users" . At the end of the day , the price is always a bubble , not matter how the devs claimed .

116
This is a question no one has asked but probably many people are thinking about.

well , I would warn my friends that the price is not natural because it's in the hands of a few people .

And it's worse than pump and dump coins , because for pump and dump , controllers  need to have chuck load of money and coins .

Now we know they have the coins , but we also know they're poor and can't put food on the table (their own words ) :P :P

So ......

General Discussion / Re: Display maximum risk reward every trade
« on: April 29, 2016, 03:08:16 am »

How would you calculate these 2 values?  Could you walk us through a simple example with real numbers ?

I just see a similar features on an forex exchange .
The idea is this :

You choose an direction (long, short) and order price , then input a take-profit or stop-loss price , and it will show how much you'll lose or gain if the price reaches it .

It's pretty smooth ...... I can control exactly how much risk I'm willing to take , like 2 USD ... And the position will be covered if the lost >=2 USD . same goes for profit-taking .

will you call Microsoft your competition when you runs a small software shop ?  :P
