To make it easier for people to set up a development environment I would like to request a VirtualBox or VMWare container for Bitshares toolkit so that anyone can load the VM to begin development.

Bitshares toolkit is well documented, it's nicely done, and to speed the process of creating new DACs we could benefit from a preconfigured virtual machine which can be put up on the Bitshares.org website.

General Discussion / AskADoctor.dac (Healthshares)
« on: May 19, 2014, 09:53:13 am »
The purpose of this DAC is to make a portable app which can run on a cellphone allowing anyone running it to ask verified doctors around the world about health related questions.

Doctors would be incentivized with a healthare payment in exchange for answering questions.

Patients will buy healthshares and then save them for a time when they need a doctors expert advice.

These healthshares should be presold to the market. Airdrop to selected healhcare professionals to get the ball rolling. 50% reserved for for PTS/AGS holders and 30% for presale, 20% for airdrop.

This method can work for the legal industry as well.

General Discussion / Let's create a decentraized meme generator.
« on: May 16, 2014, 07:59:12 am »
Set up a site where everyone competes to generate the most effective memes. Reward effectiveness. Maybe let people use prediction market mechanisms to predict which memes will be the most effective?

Design it in such a way so that it's a sort of evolutionary contest which has a payout/jackpot according to how effective and viral the chosen meme is. Perhaps set it up in such a way that ad revenue generates the jackpot? Maybe if two old memes combine split the payout in some way too?

I've seen a variation on this approach in the Blackcoin community. What do you all think about it?

These ideas may not be well thought out but it's meant to inspire others to think about it.

Achieving consensus through crypto-random leader election
One of the main issues with the solution of the Byzantine Generals’ problem implemented by Satoshi Nakamoto as the very base of the crypto-currency Bitcoin, the Proof-of-Work mechanism, is the perpetual power race it implies. One cannot be satisfied by this solution, and should work around to find another way to achieve consensus which does not rely on massive resources waste.

Recently, in have been reading a bunch of articles exploring technical innovations in order to set up the basis of the next generation of crypto-currencies and I came up with the idea of a decentralized protocol that will choose one node to forge the next block based on the mathematical properties of signatures.

Basic concept
Each block will be forged by a random node picked in the subset of registered nodes.

Unlimited Opportunities should be changed to say "Limitless opportunities".
http://bitshares.org/index.php#industries

Unlimited Opportunities isn't the best use of the the English language. Unlimited Opportunities seems like the intended expression was to be "Limitless Opportunities". To a native English speaker Unlimited Opportunities has an awkward sound to it compared to the standard expression. This awkwardness makes it stand out in the wrong way.

Decentralized voting has the potential to make scientific polling obsolete and give third party canidates an opportunity to build a base in a transparent way without the media telling us who has a chance. If a candidate fails to garner enough support you can always change your vote at the last minute, but early on you can express your true opinions without fear of wasting your vote.
Canidate should be spelled "Candidate".
http://bitshares.org/voting/

Prior to the official launch of Bitshares I think it is important that spelling be perfect on the website. Presentation is everything and errors in grammar may give people a certain impression about the state of the source code.

The website looks very good, it just needs some additional polish in the grammar dept is all.

General Discussion / What are Karmashares?

It appears to be a project launching sometime today and it looks interesting.

But it could possibly be a scam. What say you all?

Dialog bellow from the Blackcoin community

If you want to kill BlackCoin, then merge with a stupid meme based coin like Doge. It will never be taken seriously as a form of currency it will forever be a gimmick.

I thought I was the only one who thought it was a horrendous idea.  Glad to see I'm not alone.

Would be too complex of a change to do and rollout to everyone anyways.. doubt this *can* happen.

The beautiful thing is that Blackdoge wouldn't actually require a change to BC or to DOGE.  It would be a completely new PoS coin but the initial distribution of coins would be based on each users holdings in DOGE and BC at widely-telegraphed point in the future.  Each user could claim their share of the premine for free using the private keys they already hold.  Users from DOGE and BC that do nothing automatically get piggybacked to Blackdoge.  If Blackdoge fails, no one loses.  If Blackdoge succeeds, both communities win because you've just made your coin more useful.

This would be the first cryptocurrency blockchain merger in the world's history and would make the news all over the world!  In fact, it would probably go down in the history books.  Why would having a larger user base be a bad thing?

Thinks about your potential slogan.  Blackdoge: meaner, faster, pure proof of stake.  The future of cryptocurrency.

I think we could do better than "Blackdoge". Blackshares could be the name of a project to create an economic alliance between the Blackcoin community and Bitshares community.

I think these strategic alliances must be formed but it's a matter of how technically feasible it is to do it. If you're a supporter of forming a strategic alliance with the Blackcoin community this is the official thread for brainstorming.

Some suggested methods/tools on the table include

1. An airdrop of some kind of AGS and/or third party DAC shares onto the Blackcoin blockchain just as was done with Protoshares.

2. Hybrid multipool which mines profitable altcoins and gives a 50/50 payout in Bitshares and Blackcoin. This would distribute both in such a way that the users of this pool would obtain an equal stake in each community. The result would be resistance to forks as the network effect grows for both communities.

3. Airdrop into Keyhotee, put the Blackcoin wallet into Keyhotee and do the multipool in such a way that mining is built into Keyhotee. The payouts would be in Bitshares (Blackcoin community can negotiate to get Blackcoin put into Keyhotee and make it hybrid). This is of benefit because it strategically markets Keyhotee, Blackcoin and Bitshares.

These are the three ideas I could come up with. Since this is a brainstorm thread I'm asking the most creative problem solvers of the community to come up with some ideas to make this possible and list them here. I'm also asking for the technically inclined to offer some technical way to engineer it into reality.

Do you think it's a good idea to develop a secure Linux distro specifically for Bitshares, Keyhotee, and other apps which can be built around it?

I think something based on Chromium OS, but which has uses decentralized cloud storage such as MaidSafe is the way to go. It could be a live CD.

Could it work? Or is it a bad idea?

General Discussion / Crypto-equity magazine?
« on: April 08, 2014, 01:53:08 pm »
I'm thinking we are going to need a magazine or free crypto-equity news paper which can be handed out to commuters or left in places like doctors offices and banks.

The concept of a DAC has to be explained and it's not reaching many people.

How many of you would want to accept 5% of your paycheck as Bitshares instead of having it in a fiat savings account?

If enough of you vote yes, Bytemaster and Brian will want to make it happen. So if you want this to happen vote yes.

We can debate how it could be done. Coinvoice integration, Bitpay integration, etc.

The problem with Bitcoin is it's too volatile to act as a good store of value in someone's savings account. Bitshares on the other hand is the perfect store of value.

Additionally this technology could help Invictus pay it's own employees. So if not Coinvoice or Bitpay integration this is an opportunity for Invictus or someone in the community to develop the business themselves and compete with Bitpay and Coinvoice.

Neo & Bee are a payment processor which are similar to a bank. They just released version 2 of their prospectus.

Let's say Bitshares is a success and BitUSD removes volatility, would it make sense to approach a front end company like Neo & Bee to get them to use BitUSD internally?

Can we have commodity categories like "computation", "storage", "memory", "sensory", and other core components that make up a computer? Then have commodities in these categories which represent various essential components?

For example, Intel CPUs would be like "BitIntelI7CHIP". This commodity would track the price of the Intel I7 chipset.

Or for example, AMD CPUs would be like "BitAMDKaveriCHIP". This of course would track the price of the AMD Kaveri chip.

Additionally we would be able to put some graphics cards, solid state drives, ram, slr cameras, smart phones, headphones, you get the picture.

This would allow people to treat computing, storage, ram, cameras, smart phones, headphones, as commodities to be traded on a BTX chain. I don't know about you but I would love to be able to speculate on computing hardware prices.

What about video game consoles? That is another area for another potential chain where every console is treated as a commodity or popular games become commodities. People like to collect both consoles and games, so this would work well too.

When speculating on something like ram or hard drives you never know if a natural disaster will result in the price of hard drives being artificially inflated for several years or if some breakthrough will completely change the industry. Ideally you would think it would go down but how would it move in relation to the other chips on the market? What about sales? Perhaps chips that sell better could win a sort of bet so that people can profit if AMD outsold Intel chips that season.

What are your thoughts?

One of the problems I can see coming is that BTS will be very insecure. The fact that Angelshares are locked into a specific wallet means they cannot be moved. Cold storage is an option but there aren't any services or businesses to help with this at all.

I've seen three products which seem pretty good but are only for BTC.

http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/13/xapo-raises-20-million-to-bury-your-bitcoin-underground/
http://letstalkbitcoin.com/review-verso-cards/
http://www.bitcointrezor.com/

Security has to be made a priority for BTS. Cold storage on paper wallets is a start but if my understanding is right if you don't trade BTS they start losing value which is a problem for people who try to hold them in cold storage.

Verso cards are pretty good, convenient and some product like this should be given away or sold to people who have BTS.

Trezor is pretty good but it's good for when you want to spend. We need something like Trezor so that BTS can be traded on machines which are infected by malware, advanced persistent threats, trojans, all which will eventually target the holders of BTS. Perhaps Invictus can modify the Trezor after it's released and release a patch for BTS.

Xapo is a distributed cold storage vault service. I think Xapo is the highest level of security available right now. They bury your cold wallets in underground vaults protected by armed guards. This is about as secure as it gets and additionally your BTC are insured. The problem is that it only works for BTC apparently and not for BTS.

If Xapo could be convinced to accept alt currencies like BTS or if somehow BTS can be transfered to BTC addresses for cold storage then it could possibly work.

Is it technically possible to color a BTC address as a BTS cold storage address, let a person send their BTS to that address via Proof of Burn, and then have the BTC address hold the AngelBTS which can be redeemed somehow later?

Otherwise Invictus should contact Xapo and ask for a partnership immediately.
partners@xapo.com

Additionally make a security section of the forum. It's strange not to even have a section to discuss security issues like storage. It's even more strange to not have anyone coming up with security solutions if we really believe BTS are going to be worth as much as the polls say.

Let's mine for BTS instead of BTC. Read below to see how it can be done.

We set up mining pools designed mine the most profitable altcoin like multipool and in return they get BTS instead of BTC. The mining pool itself would sell whatever coins they mined, trade it for BTS, and then distribute the Bitshares to the miners.

The mining pool would be automated and have to continuously buy Bitshares as more hashing power is thrown at it.

As a case study I see the idea working in practice for Blackcoin's mining pool so why not do it for Bitshares? It uses free market forces to both decentralize distribution and market Bitshares. I would use the mining pool myself in fact so I could get more Bitshares.

It would allow us all to mine to get Bitshares and decentralize the distribution of Bitshares while also supporting the price. This solves the problem of Bitshares not being mineable because now it would be.
