Considering that I only earned about 30k working for BTS for 2 yrs, I don't think locking 1M shares up is actually "worth" 50k BROWNIE.PTS .. </opinion>

besides that, I like the idea ... but wouldn't want to be put on a "list"

Do you think 1 million BTS will ever be worth more than $30,000? Do you want it to happen sooner rather than later?

The more BTS is worth, the more your Brownies are worth, and if someone locks up a lot of BTS then people being paid in BTS for their work will get better reward for their work. The point being that while it might seem not to be in your self interest if someone gets a lot of Brownies for supporting BTS as a whale, it's indirectly helping Brownies.

Of course that is just my opinion and none of us really know how much Brownies will ultimately be worth anyway.

257
why establish a big shareholders club and not let every physical person to participate by locking BTS and reward them brownies (or even better another UIA or even better some bitusd) for doing so in proportion to their bts blocked and time blocked?
If you use another UIA it should still include a percentage of Brownies.  I don't know how it would work with another UIA which represents a basket of sharedrop tokens (including Brownies) so I would think Brownies is the easiest way to go about it in the beginning.

Locking 1 M for 1 month and get awarded 50k of Brownies is like receiving something worth c$830 for blocking something worth c$3,330 for 1 month...I know that I would definitely go buy 1m BTS on the market and bock them for 1M if I get awarded 50k Brownies and probably dump them as soon as possible...So I don't think this is a good idea since Brownies will become worthless..
You wouldn't get your Brownies all at once. It should be you'd get them slowly over time just as if you're mining with the maximum over a fixed period of time being 50k. If you're only in it for the dollar amount then you'll dump your Brownies but people only in it for the dollar amount will probably not want to lock up 1 million Bitshares for some period of time.

Also who said it has to be 1 month? The amount of time could have a minimum and a maximum, and be randomly set so that you don't even know for sure if it's going to be 1 month, or more, or less. The length of time could also be a configurable parameter which gets voted on, but in any case once you agree to lock up you can't unlock it prior to the time limit agreed to.

The point is if you dump your Brownies then you dump, but the person who doesn't dump would still have a better reputation than the person who does, and the longest locked holders could get additional UIA sharedrops according to the length of time they locked up. You can basically create an economy around reputation for being a whale supporter of BTS.

I think it would be more normal to earn 5% interest on the bitusd value of the locked BTS. For example, lock 1M BTS for 1 Month will earn c$15 bitusd. The question is from where the bitusd will be found? From the network reserve pool? Is this a good idea?

I don't think you get the point. The goal isn't to pay people USD. The goal is to encourage people to be long term holders by giving them additional future equity, sharedrops, opportunities, rewards, etc. So people who have a reputation for proving they are willing to lock up their Bitshares for long periods of time should be rewarded.

People who just want cash will develop the reputation for immediately cashing out and compared to the people who hold longer, they'd probably not have an equal reputation. So it's kind of like how with Proof of Stake the older coin age means something, the same could be for the amount of time you keep your BTS locked up. If you set it to lock up for 1 month then 50,000 Brownies, and if you go longer than this then you could get priority in sharedrops because people launching new businesses or who are doing sharedrops probably want people who will be willing to lock up and not dump.

Why not just give 50,000 Brownies to all who willingly lock up 1 million or more BTS?
+5%

It would have to be some sort of proof of faith. The blockchain has to be able to prove that the person has a certain amount of net worth locked up in BTS. It has to be able to verify that they cannot unlock it immediately. The stream of Brownies would have to be rewarded in frequent intervals, like with mining. Then it could work sort of like Proof of Stake in a way, where as long as you lock it up, and you continuously prove it, the Brownies get unlocked and released to you and the others according to the length of time they locked up.

This would reward people for taking opportunity costs.

Wow...i love this...and i would love it if another UIA did it too...

Page Bytemaster and the other devs to enable timelock or similar features in the UI so we can do it. I don't see why it couldn't be done. We could pile on the sharedrop UIAs to the people who lock up their wealth for the good of Bitshares 2.0 but it should probably start with Brownies.

Active supporters of Bitshares should have the benefits of that reputation. Investors who risk opportunity cost are in my opinion active supporters.

As I know, most people are tired for the quickly rule change.

DACX keep silent.
why they don't dare to use Bitshares as their exchange?
I think they are worry about when will BM change the rules again.

if we don't have a strict rule to control the change,  no serious business dare to dive into BTS.
it's very important to make people belive the system is stable.

personally, I think BTC2.0 is very good now, just keep it stable,
people will keep watching, then join the blockchain. we need more patient than rapid develop now.

Yes I agree. There's not much that needs to be changed with Bitshares 2.0. I don't think that they should worry about BM changing the rules, especially as proxy voting is used more and the control of the network is more decentralized.
I have to be honest, BM is too important to BTS, and he is out of control, if he want to change mind, we have no way to stop.
this is really a possible risk for the business based BTS.
for example, in BTS1.0 we can't register the sub account name without root account, we can't register sub asset name without root asset.
we can't sell account name. they are changed in BTS2.0 without any warnning.
these rules maybe is not so important for everyone, but it can kill some business.

Did you hear the mumble today?? Bm and cryptonomex only hold a few percent of bts... It's the most decentralized relevant crypto their is.  Doesn't matter if bm is in or out of control
Bitshares development is centralized though. Perhaps more Chinese should develop the technology to help decentralize development?

transwiser is now integrated at the dacplay webwallet, below is the UI:

in deposit pop window, user can click the link or scan the QR to the webpage in weidian.com to buy BitCNY,  the page is in chinese, and you can pay when you have an alipay account or a CNY bank account.

withdraw is a little easier, but you also need an alipay account, input the withdraw amount and your alipay account and click "withdraw", your BitCNY will be sent accordingly and you will receive CNY in your alipay account.

thanks for boombastic to develop this, he will submit the pull request later, hope everyone enjoy this. :)

Yet another business sharing profits via BitShares ... I like where this is heading ..
Now I don't only own a Bank, an exchange, a voting platform ... but also own shares of revenue of startups using my bank and my exchange .. that's weird but great !!

Yes but it's only a good thing if and only if it becomes equity. Will we get a guarantee that these tokens will in the future be redeemed for equity in the form of shares in these startups?

While Obits looks to be a good thing and crypto based profit sharing is good, at the same time we need legit equity outside of the obvious crypto exclusives. When will we see the first equity crowd fund?

Our offerings enables the average internet users to profit from the volatility in the market without having to go through the nuances of understanding the markets deeply. Obits, is a means of empowering the average user to profit from the markets without a complete involvement of understanding of blockchain technology.

Obits tokens are based on the basis of one of the world's first truly Decentralized Autonomous Exchanges – OpenLedger, and you find Obits located in a wallet created as perhaps the most secure place in the whole world!

This mean’s the holdings of the exchange are always auditable, can’t be manipulated and user’s holdings are always liquid, unlike Banks that depend on fractional reserves. Will this be one of the first EQUITY CROWD FUNDS as detailed by the JOBS ACT?

http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2015/11/11/the-jobs-act-in-action-equity-crowdfunding-debuts.aspx

If it is then I'd find this interesting. If it's not equity crowd funding then it's not as interesting. So what exactly is it? Do we get actual shares or just another UIA?

General Discussion / Re: BitShares/Graphene sales pitch

Thank you very much for posting this sales pitch.  I think that despite what many complain about with pricing, it is our pricing that allows people like you to go market a reasonable business model.

The problem is never about price, it is always about sales and value. You can convince people to over pay for something if they are "buying brand" or "philosophy".  Selling to the "premium" customer is how Tesla is boostraping and is ultimately how all new technology needs to start out. Going after the marginal customer (those not willing to pay you a dime) is not a great way to grow a business.

I pretty much agree with your strategy despite the fact that I really am into the micropayments idea.

But again, how do we promote financial independence through Bitshares, and then market the concept? So many people I talk to don't even know what financial independence is and believe that people should work just to not sink. Financial independence would mean true freedom because a person would have a safety net of dividend paying assets.

Instead people seem to prefer to live day to day, debt to debt, off credit and money printed by banks out of thin air, backed by absolutely nothing. It seems people prefer to depend on large centralized institutions, centralized exchanges, central government, which ultimately means their fate in life depends on the decisions of an ever decreasing amount of people all who are subject to corruption or influence.

Depending on the market for employment is fine but if people save or invest in dividend paying assets then they only have to depend on the growth of capitalism itself. GDP is likely to continue to grow, and stocks are likely to continue to grow up, even if the jobs people currently are doing become obsolete. Unfortunately half of Americans don't own stock, and some don't even believe in capitalism, but even if people don't believe in capitalism the capability exists to build gift economies or to barter over Bitshares and these capabilities should be marketed to people who don't like traditional forms of exchange.

In the end people want self sufficiency or they want dependency. The people who want self sufficiency represent the demographic who can understand Bitshares. How do we reach them? I think we have to identify the core psychology behind the self sufficiency and financial independence movement. I don't think it's a political ideology, I think it's a psychological outlook which most of us share.

The important thing here is that we can charge this fee (even though our competition does not) because we offer added value.

+1

We don't need to be everything to everybody.  That way leads to the Unprofitable Side.
We just need to be valuable to those willing to pay a premium for that value.

“Decide you must, how to serve them best. If you [cut rates] now, help some you could; but you would destroy all for which we have fought, and suffered.”  -- Yoda

What is your opinion on the best way to market the features of Bitshares which can help participants achieve financial independence?

I think it's one phrase which we should see more often, substituting any of the politically divisive language. Similar to how the American dream as a concept is what attracts immigrants, the concept of financial independence will attract people to Bitcoin (people think the Bitcoin price could be $100,000 per coin someday), or to Bitshares if similar opportunities for investors exist in Bitshares.

At some point there could be some success stories but for now how do we promote the dream of financial independence in a less than political way?

Financial independence should be the key "phrase", meme and selling point of Bitshares in my opinion. I think financial independence sums up why most people are attracted to Bitshares including most of us.

So I would put a lot of attention to explain exactly what financial independence is. Financial independence defined by Wikipedia is:
Quote
Financial independence is generally used to describe the state of having sufficient personal wealth to live, without having to work actively for basic necessities.[1] For financially independent people, their assets generate income that is greater than their expenses. For example, a person's quarterly expenses may total $4000. They receive dividends from stocks they have previously purchased totaling $5,000 quarterly, while also having more money in other assets. Under these circumstances, a person is financially independent. A person's assets and liabilities are an important factor in determining if they have achieved financial independence.

Financial independence is the NEW AMERICAN DREAM. It should be promoted because in my opinion I think that is what brings us all together. Bytemaster might have some crypto-anarchist tendencies, another person might be a socialist, but both want to be self sufficient, financially independent, one way or another.

If Bitshares offers opportunties to achieve the NEW AMERICAN DREAM of financial independence then it will be very easy to market the features which promote that. At the same time there probably are going to be forces, entities, groups, who do not want us to have financial independence, and who will promote dependency either on the state, or on employment to them, but Bitshares offers an ability to be employed by a DAC, and to free yourself from dependency on oligarchs or states.
